St pal is ladybird free mrs S. I've been for a walk along the beach this morning and have only seen one small dragonfly. ( our family house is in St Palais village) A ouais. Il fait beau.Grin

wordassociationfootball · 17/08/2014 10:35

Herbs, try The Blue Ball for a lovely meal. Expect DS will love the Tudor House Museum.

Serendipity the slotties place in town is fun. You can make a quid's worth of two pees last quite a while on the cakewalks (is that what they're called?). I've strung it out by watching them to their pound then getting them to advise me when to 'fire' mine.

We always visit one of the gaudy beer gardens in town, too the Buccaneer (or the Back 'in 'ere) as our friends call it. No flash peas, absurdly huge portions. Find a table, queue up to order and pay for food, cash only.

We buy a chuckaway bbq in Sainsburys and do veggie burgers with a bonfire on South Beach and have a singalong as it gets dark one night but we're there with another family so it's easier to keep the jolly up.

There's lovely hands on museum and lots of naicer nick nack and clothes shops and caffs at Narbeth. Folly Farm really quite bearable if big for giving milk to baby goats and lots of play things.

There's a play area in the beer garden of the Carew Inn by Carew castle which are both worth a visit.

The library in Tenby is nice. You can join as a visitor and get some puter time and plenty bookage to thumb for the boy.

It is a bit dark ages, Tenby and needs sunshine.... Good luck. Meant to write this sooner but just back from Edinburgh.

Auriga · 17/08/2014 12:04

Hi WAF good to see you. Sound as though there's a lot more to Tenby than meets the eye - hope so, Herbs.

All my frantic emailing met with silence, till this morning at 10:10 when I got a message agreeing DD should go on the residential course today. They will try to sort out the licence next week.

This gave us 20 (twenty, XX) minutes to get her packed and off to the station. Not too hard, as she'd been almost ready yesterday when the blow fell. She's delighted, even though there's still a chance she won't be able to sing in the performance. She's not the only one in that position, which helps (though what a cock-up, eh?).

I wish they'd sent the e-mail last night, I've had hardly any sleep and there's a small demon boring a hole in my right temple.

Phew.

NUFC69 · 17/08/2014 13:02

Oh, Auriga, what a mess, but at least she is going. Actually the fact that DD is not the only one affected might help. Fingers crossed for her. I am so sorry that you are still suffering from the migraine: they are so awful I know, although I am fortunate that I have them rarely. I hope it lifts soon.

BTM, I have just downloaded the book so I am relying on your good taste. Grin

herbaceous · 17/08/2014 14:54

Hurrah for last-minute reprieve, Auriga. You'll sleep well tonight!

And top tips, WAF. we've been to south beach today, and it has a super posh new caff, at which we had mussels. Then lovely stroll back around the harbour. Parts are v crowded with what my mother would call 'trippers', but it may thin out free the weekend. It's very lovely. And the weather is sunny! And v warm, out of the chilly wind.

CointreauVersial · 17/08/2014 17:42

Glad things are looking up, Herbs. And Auriga too. Fingers crossed she gets to sing.

Safe home, BTM.

I have four teens camping in my garden tonight. Hmm

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2014 19:39

Auriga, thats great news! Well pretty good considering theres council numpties involved!

WAF I was just wondering where you were last night and now I see you posted - spookeh

Herbs, glad you have found some decent places. Are you feeling slim-jim on the beach?!

We are in Houston, transiting for 4 hours. We have done the erican Subway experienceShock!

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2014 19:41

CV, hope your teens are in a tent rather than just under the stars lile DD and her mates. TBF, our garden is a bit small for a tent and it was when the weather was very warm!

herbaceous · 17/08/2014 19:48

I was pondering your wise predictions re beach fatties only this afternoon, btm. Indeed, the only people slimmer than me - and I am NOT slim, as many will attest - were some similar London types this morning.

Remembered too late that eating cream sauces gives me almost instant gyppy batty. We had moules marinere. I manges to get to the cottage in time!

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2014 19:56

You see Herbs, just the place to go for a self-esteem boost. Unlike the Surfers Paradises I have just been to, full of beautiful slim young things!

NU, hope you enjoy it as much as I did - I usually stick to fiction on hol, but it was fascinating.

CointreauVersial · 17/08/2014 23:11

Yes, BTM, teens are in a tent (two tents, to be precise; one for girls and one for boys). I just took hot chocolate and marshmallows out to them.

One of the girls is DS's "first love" (snogs in Year 6 Shock ), and even though they are at different schools they have stayed in touch. She's lovely. Am I allowed to choose my own DIL yet? Wink GrinWink

Hooray, day off tomorrow....

NUFC69 · 18/08/2014 08:38

Glad to hear that things are looking up, Herbs.

I hope the teens were well wrapped up in their tent in the garden, CV - here they would have wanted their thermals on. Enjoy your day off.

I have just done an hour on the exercise bike again (I am off to the clinic for a weigh in and this is a probably futile attempt to burn off more calories! ).

Blackduck · 18/08/2014 10:41

Yoo hoo from Bilbao - no wifi here either! And recalling BTMs netflix meltdown I was expecting carnage but they have been remarkably stoical about it (give them both a couple of years and I suspect it will be outright war if do and I drag them somewhere with no wifi). The. Advantage is we have to go to a bar and drop on the hot spot to check mail - grim Grin

Here I can't get the cooker working, but have managed the washing machine and dishwasher.

Got burnt in then each yesterday....
QQ will write more when back but I think this could work for your family next year!

Auriga glad it's sorted!!

Herbs hope the weather improves
BTM and rose happy travelling.....
Cremo hope things are calmer!

NUFC69 · 18/08/2014 11:06

Waves to BD. I know what you mean about appliances, we usually have apartments and then look with horror when I see the buttons, etc.

Back from the clinic - I have lost 1.1 kgs of the 5 I put on earlier so that's a start. Facing the joy that is Ikea with DD this afternoon.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2014 11:16

Hi BD! I have to say that there were no further TV meltdowns after that oneWink Result if the cooker's not working! And the nearest wifi's in a bar!

We landed just before 7 this morning after the most boring 10 hour flight ever - films a la 80's styleAngry Am going to try to stay awake till this evening, as are the DC. Infact DD has just gone shopping with her mateShock DH has gone to bed!

Was very pissed off to see kitchen not restored to normal, but following phone call to builders it seems that they, cleaner and friends son doing watering were all playing Chinese whispers and thought we were back tomorrow. They are coming back tonight to sort outHmm

NUFC69 · 18/08/2014 12:12

Welcome home, BTM. The second day back is always the worst - just saying. I hope you get your kitchen sorted out tomorrow.

DH has just had an email to say that they have changed the time of all of our flights to, from and in the US. Fortunately it's not too bad apart from the flight from Phoenix which is appreciably earlier. He is also sorting out our world wide annual holiday insurance which has gone up from £124 to £278! This is all because we're a year older.

Stropperella · 18/08/2014 14:01

Now back in the UK for a bad-tempered drive across the South in an overloaded car. The second campsite we went was actually near Saumur rather than Tours and after packing up in a tropical downpour at the first site, we had to pour the water out of the tent before putting it up. Still, the weather improved somewhat, as did Dd's temper after yet another showdown. The anxiety of waiting for results day is taking its toll on her.
This was in no way a relaxing holiday, but we were very busy and no one ever complained they were bored. I didn't even get to open any of the books I took. Dd asked today "Did I completely spoil the holiday?" and ds answered "Everybody spoilt it a bit in their own way". Probably true Grin

Rosebag · 18/08/2014 14:51

This is the first morning we have woken at a decent time...what ever I do, if I fly to North America it takes three days to normalise re the time difference. With the nadir in the second day....we were all bad tempered yesterday morning, especially me...I went to the little under ground spa in the hotel whilst the others walked in to town. We were no jollier when we re convened at lunchtime....but I realised we had to get out walking..it's the only way with us...and it worked. We were much happier and less shouty. Lovely riverside trail. DS is quite in to his photography these days and keeps saying he can't quite believe the back drop to this place is real. That's between his episodes of surly moodiness, though. Poor DD came on yesterday. I found her crying in the loo. But the GP has prescribed the pill for her heavy periods and cystitis which are linked so let's see how it goes. We have plans to go either to Lake Louise or, stay in Banff and go up sulphur mountain in the cable car and the to the hot spring in the next two days.

Crem sounds lovely there!
WAF were you at The Festival?
Auriga so pleased that all has not been lost. Still think some heads should roll, though.
Tilly , you're HOME! Hope the kitchen gets sorted.
herbs are you sure it's not the seafood that sets your stomach off?
BD sounds good to me...more eating out opportunities , no?
NU Shock at insurance premium ...shop around definitely.
CV hope the back yard camping went well...liking your efforts to separate the sexes lol
stropps ...hope you're drying out. Don't all families spoil aspect of all holidays? It can't be normal with teens to have happy families all the time.

Right, time to get up. I actually feel lie I head some sleep Smile

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2014 14:53

Sorry to hear about the floods, but it's good to be busy, Stropps, especially with teens/youngstersWink I think that's why ours went so well! And yes, she must be very nervous - such a lot of pressure is being put on them. Did you get to drink much Saumur?!

I am feeling very wobbly (it's like having been on a boat for a day) and knackered. May slip upstairs while the boys are watching the footy!

Rosebag · 18/08/2014 14:54

Like I hAd some sleep....

CointreauVersial · 18/08/2014 15:36

Teen camp-out passed without incident, and DS is currently recovering on the sofa. I'm a bit pooped myself, after spending the morning trailing around Epsom with the girls. Anyway, ears have been pierced, braces tightened and essential school supplies purchased.

Blackduck · 18/08/2014 18:37

Stropps - loving your ds's comment!!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/08/2014 18:39

All these holidays! Mother Inferior has asked me to let you all know that she went to a creperie for lunch. Grin

Anyone in London fancy a drink next week? Or the week after?

Other joyous news... I have my appointment for genetic counselling in September. Same day as my three monthly check up, so will be spending a lovely day at Guy's. Hmm

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 18/08/2014 18:48

I am around MrsSWink
At least it will be over with in one go.

Auriga · 18/08/2014 19:18

Next week I'll be in Normandy, MrsS, looking for crêpes.

Stropps, I had a blissful holiday in Saumur 20y ago. But I recently found my diary of it & was reminded how sad I felt some of the time. My friends did too, for different reasons; all the free time brought things bubbling to the surface. Didn't spoil the holiday, though, the happy memories have stood the test of time.

BTM, welcome back, hope kitchen gladdens your heart tomorrow.

Phone call first thing this morning from formidable woman at BBC. She's on a mission to get DD onto the performers' licence. Feel better now I've spoken to someone who knows what she's doing Grin
