Day out in London dress for style or comfort?

Having a day out in London tomorrow, with kids doing museums, sites and possibly a few shops. Would love to go to harrods but isn't there a dress code?

My most comfy shoes are a black pair of Nike trainers with neon pink trim, they are newish not scruffy. I do have converses but not as comfy. Will be walking lots, no pushchair so can't take spare shoes. Would wear with dark skinny jeans, top and cardi. Doesn't sound smart enough for harrods does it?

You'll be fine. Wear what is comfortable.

commonorgarden · 02/08/2014 20:40

Comfort.

Catsmamma · 02/08/2014 20:42

no dress code for harrods anymore....not been for years! :o

SnayPah · 02/08/2014 20:42

I went to harrods when I was a scruffy backpacker and no one cared. I couldn't carry my day pack over my shoulder but that was it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2014 20:58

Harrods is only a shop - dress for comfort.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/08/2014 21:17

No dress code in Harrods. Make sure you aren't going to overheat, though - it's pretty warm in London at the moment.

polyhymnia · 02/08/2014 21:18

No way is there a dress code for Harrods. And it's full of tourists, specially in August. Wear whatever you like and I'd comfortable. You'll see all sorts of styles of dress.

polyhymnia · 02/08/2014 21:19

'Is', not 'I'd '!

polyhymnia · 02/08/2014 21:20

In fact what Harrods is most like is a theme park .

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/08/2014 21:24

Harrods is pretty awful, really, but the toy section is incredible.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2014 21:25

Do they still have the pet section? I used to like that.

Comfort. You might be hot in jeans though

GalaxyInMyPants · 02/08/2014 21:31

Comfort.

Are you likely to see people you know? Do you care what strangers may or may not think? They won't even notice what you're wearing, everyone is rushing about doing their own thing.

Comfort. Your outfit sounds good and nice for photos too.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/08/2014 22:11

Yes, last time I was there, they had the pet section. Seemed to be mainly small yapping dogs. Poor things.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2014 22:12

Awww. Doubt we'll bother going when we're in London in a couple of weeks. I far prefer Liberty!

nilbyname · 02/08/2014 22:13

Dress for comfort, but such the jeans you will boil!

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 02/08/2014 22:16

I love Liberty.

Also, Fortnum and Mason. Their food section is one of my happy places. A friend got chatting to an older gent there, once. He was buying a slab of foie gras, which he was eating on toast for supper every night. Apparently his wife had left him and he didn't know what else to eat.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2014 22:20

Yes to F&M - they do smoked Earl grey tea, which is v lovely. And the packaging is exquisite. I always buy those and dp always buys a pork pie (classy!). Grin

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 03/08/2014 10:21

And their charming Christmas biscuit tins that play music. Smile

ElizabethArdenGreenTea · 03/08/2014 10:26

I go for comfortable shoes but dress the top half nicely! it doesn't look as weird as you'd think.

I love liberty too! I haven't been for yearss! Belinda, had that guy not heard of cheese slices!

polyhymnia · 03/08/2014 10:31

Yes Liberty much more enjoyable than Harrods which had lost any classiness it might have had to go the theme park route.

umiaisha · 03/08/2014 10:51

No more pets dept at Harrods :-(

Depending in your kids' ages they might like the Disney cafe there.
