So plopping....

I have been doing this for the last few times i washed my hair. The first time, it left my hair beautifully soft i couldnt believe it. It was still frizzy though. So, i decided after re-reading that i would put some product on my hair. So i have some hair oil and popped that on. Well my hair has been wrapped in my dh tee for over an hour now. Took my hair out and OMG!! Where have all the curls come from?????
I have naturally kinky hair and if i leave it to dry naturally its a horrible frizzy but wavy and curls mixed in. If i dry it with the hair dryer it goes quite straight. Infact i could make it really straight with a brush.
So it really surprised me that it has gone so curly!!! Now i have a question..i have put my hair back in the tee and wrapped it up again cause its still damp. Is it ok to do that or does it defeat the purpose of it - to undo it and then put it back on???

Plopping is amazing, isn't it?! Grin

I leave mine in its wrap for about ten minutes post shower, then take it off to stick some oil and products on, then wrap it up again and leave it on for however long I can be bothered (normally about 30 minutes). I've found taking it off and scrunching again helps 'activate' the curls.

Plopping changed my life Grin

I need to look back through my posts and find out who suggested it to me so I can send them a medal.

I scrunch in a little KC curl custard and a few big squirts of Frizz Ease gel as soon as I get out of the shower and then plop for at least 30 minutes (or an hour if I have time), then use the pixie diffusion method to take it to almost dry, scrunch out the crunch when I'm ready to leave the house.

Like you, I saw an instant improvement, but I think you just need to experiment to see what works best for you - agree that another scrunch post plop works really well.

What on earth, is plopping? !

I assumed this thread title was a strange autocorrect Grin

Ah. Need to try this! Naturally curly but would like more curls.

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 04:11

I've just tried this, having found it on amazon when looking at the other things recommended at the bottom of my amazon page. It is truly fantastic: Jamaican Black Castor Oil Regular 8oz. (236ml) by Sunny Isle www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004ZWVYO0/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_eig2tb0E86YR9

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 11:01

Hi Anon..are you a plopper then?
why is it good? Does it combat frizz? I have really dry hair strangely at the top of my head its frizzy and NOTHING not even hair oil seems to work. Everything i have tried just seems a waste of time. I dont know if i have split ends but its annoying i so wish my hair was silky smooth at the top.

I have curly hair too and will definitely be trying this!

The best advice I was ever given re curly hair is to just put a blob of conditioner through the hair, don't wash out, and leave to dey naturally. It really does work better than using any other expensive creams or gels

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 30/07/2014 11:40

Once washed do you comb it through or just detangle using your fingers?

QueenBean · 30/07/2014 14:15

I comb mine through otherwise it would turn in to dreadlocks I'm sure :)

WitchWay · 30/07/2014 16:46

Does it do anything different to leaving air twisted up in a towel turban for 20 minutes or so? I find mine is better if I find the time to do this before styling it - more body & waviness. I have shoulder-length slightly wavy hair.

WitchWay · 30/07/2014 16:47

*hair not air, obviously - I don't usually drop my aitches Grin

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 18:29

i bought a microfibre towel from homebargains today it was really cheap!! worth getting one from there if you have one near you!!

Blatant place mark Grin

GobblersKnob · 30/07/2014 18:37

I used to love plopping, no more though since I had a pixie :)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 30/07/2014 21:42

I twist my shoulder length fairly straight hair into a low bun with a scrunchie when its damp then sleep in it and wake to wavy hair with lots of body.

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 21:50

Green, I'm a wannabe curly girl. Tried plopping, somewhat unsuccessfully with a towel, today (1 minute whole changing both my daughter and myself after a swim). I've taken up swimming and so am going natural again with my coarse, frizzy locks.
Yes, the Jamaican oil is helps combat frizz and seems to stick the curls together. Much better than frizz ease serum, IMHO.

MamaLazarou · 30/07/2014 21:55

I too am a dedicated plopper. The only time a towel touches my hair is when I visit the hairdresser. XXL t-shirt, drop of coconut oil or Lush R+B, rake through with fingers, plop, leave for 5 mins then remove and leave to dry naturally.

Interesting to hear that people leave it tied up for an hour or more, haven't tried that.

I love plopping!

CorporateRockWhore · 30/07/2014 21:56

So, do I...

Wash hair as normal
Put curl mousse on
Stick towel on head for a while
Have lots of lovely curls

Or am I missing a step?

AnonyMust · 30/07/2014 21:59

I tried a microfibres it wrk and silk pillow to sleep on. Like them!

ThePerfectNegroni · 30/07/2014 22:10

I'm a plopper too! I don't comb, only finger take. I get my head tipped upside down, hair totally soaking wet and squeeze handfuls of gel up into my hair. I then plop in a tshirt- never microfibre as it catches my hair and causes frizz and plop. I do it for about twenty- thirty minutes and then leave to dry naturally. When it's dry I tip my hair upside down and scrunch out the crunchy crispness on the gel.

CorporateRockWhore · 30/07/2014 22:18

Thanks, I'll give it a go tomorrow!

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 22:31

Ok. so for me to try is....Leaving conditioner in during plopping, trying gel during plopping, using jamaican oil...not all at once of course!!! I wonder which one will work best for me?

OP posts:
CheapBread · 30/07/2014 22:41

Uh? NO WAY. How can you all be endorsing this? I had no idea what it was until now, but if I leave my hair in a towel too long, with or without product, or go to bed with damp hair (like last night) I end up with a comedy fan fringe that i cannot fix and asymmetric frizzy hair. My hair is normally dead straight, smooth and lank if I just brush it through.
