Am I missing out on some gorgeous fragrances by not ever choosing celebrity perfumes? It's just never occurred to me to buy them.

Any recommendations?

Lovely is available on Amazon, and appears to be the number 1 seller on there. Must not click must not click

Lovely is very much similar to Narcisso Rodrigues For Her.

It's a good one. JLo had an older one called Deseo, that was quite nice as well.

But there's is so much perfectly horrid stuff out there signed by a celebrity, it's unreal.

KoalaDownUnder · 24/07/2014 19:22

Ha! Funny you should say, coffee, because before I bought Lovely I was using Narciso Rodriguez For Her. I only realised after I had them both and was reading a perfume blog one day that they're considered v similar.

Funny, because I don't think they're that similar, but I must have very consistent taste!

squoosh · 24/07/2014 19:25

I got some of the Rodriguez Her perfume after reading they were very similar. I still much prefer SJP's cheapo version though.

hollyisalovelyname · 24/07/2014 19:32

Ronan Keating's men's cologne is lovely.
Some ( or all - not sure) of the profits go to the Marie Keating Foundation ( cancer charity).
The scent is very lemony, fresh and similar to Aqua di Parma and Annick Goutal's Eau d'Hadrien. A lovely scent in this warm weather.
Blush- is this a blushing emjoi ?

polyhymnia · 24/07/2014 19:35

Who on earth is Sam Faiers??

ScienceRocks · 24/07/2014 19:41

The fragrances that work best are those in which the celeb is very involved with the making. This was the case with Sarah Jessica parker (apparently covet was the one she wanted to make, but they made her release lovely first as it was considered to be more mainstream) and madonna's truth or dare, which is definitely worth a sniff. I haven't smelt richard e grant's new perfume, but he was very involved in it and it is probably worth testing for that reason.

Most celeb perfumes are made by coty on a licensing agreement for the celeb's name and often they won't have smelt it until the launch! Having said that, sometimes the fragrance does work. Britney Spears' curious is one that does it for me, and is a much cheaper version yet a dead ringer for tocca's stella. And there can be other benefits - last year's one direction perfume may not have been to everyone's nose, but it grew the international perfume market in a way that has never been seen before.

poly no one! Just another reality tv 'star'

Yeah, I'd test the SJP Lovely before buying if you can. I didn't like it but to be fair I didn't give it much chance to settle and it's possible the tester was off. Lots of people like it. Never heard of Sam Faiers.

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/07/2014 10:54

One of my favourite perfumes is still Britney Spears Fantasy. I'm not even embarrassed! It's a really nice scent for spring/summer.

itsnothingoriginal · 25/07/2014 17:36

Some of the Britney ones are nice although very sweet! I like the Circus one. Lovely is also well.. lovely! I bought mine from Amazon for a bargain price.

Best one I bought recently was the Lidl Suddenly one on recommendation of S&B!!

Found the Victoria Beckham one strangely old fashioned - gave it to my mum!

I don't know why people are so snobby about celeb scents. They are not made by the actual celebrities, they are made by renowned noses or respected scent and flavour brands. The celebrity just fronts the campaign.

SJP Lovely is superb as is the diffusion collection: Endless, Twilight and Dawn.

Another good one is JLo Deseo, Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights, and Hilary Duff With Love which smells like Tropical Woods.

To be honest, a big brand name is no guarantee of quality. If it smells good wear it.

The advantage to celeb scents is that they are made by prolific noses, yet are often cheaper. Granted a lot of them are synthetic fruity florals, but smell it before writing it off!

(having said all that, I will never, ever try or buy anything by the Kardashians!)

ThePortlyPinUp · 30/07/2014 19:01

My favourite perfumes are the Katy Perry Killer Queen range, I also like Lady GaGa Fame, Katy Perry Meow and SJP Twilight. I received Kate Moss's fragrance as a gift once and it absolutely reeked.

MissBattleaxe · 30/07/2014 19:13

Yeah, I'd test the SJP Lovely before buying if you can. I didn't like it but to be fair I didn't give it much chance to settle and it's possible the tester was off

The problem is, a lot of perfume testers are kept in incredibly hot conditions and are often a bit "off".

AuntieBrenda · 31/07/2014 20:17

Passed by the fragrance shop in town today and had a whiff of la Bella because if this thread - bought some! It's really nice! Sjp is on offer there £19.99 for 100 ml bottle

EugeneKrabs · 31/07/2014 20:22

I really cannot stand "Lovely". Smells disgusting on me and on testers, to my nose anyway.

I love Nicky Minaj's Pink Friday perfume - definitely my guilty secret Wink. Bottle is hideous but have had more compliments when wearing that than anything else!

I like Prada Candy but far too much ££ so may investigate this one.

Scarletohello · 04/08/2014 21:20

Richard E Grant has a perfume??

'Whiff of Whithnail'?

Hahahaha

Wish we had a 'Smellsnet'! :)

Mintyy · 04/08/2014 21:25

Oh God no, I could never wear a celebrity perfume! Especially not someone who is famous because of an absurd television programme. Am an utter snob about that. It wouldn't even occur to me to try one, tbh.

MissBattleaxe · 05/08/2014 11:09

Mintyy, you're missing out. A lot of perfume bloggers rate certain celeb scents very highly and ignore the name on the packaging. Many are produced by Givauden, Coty or respected Noses in the industry. Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights for instance (I know terrible name, great perfume) was created by Steve Demeracdo who has also been a Nose for Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and Escada.

The Nose behind SJP Lovely (Laurent Le Guernec) has also worked on niche brand Bond No 9 as well as Lacroix and Clinique.

My only rule with perfume is try everything once!

OsloGin · 05/08/2014 11:40

I really want to try some of these. I like fresh clean/citrus/ocean smells. Which should I make a point of trying?

MissBattleaxe · 05/08/2014 12:37

OsloGin- you might like Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, or O de Lancome or Chanel Cristalle. Or there'a always trusty 4711 cologne which is a fabulous timeless classic.
