Tube mascara revisited, opinions please.

I'd given up on wearing mascara a few years ago. chemo treatment made them fall out and re growth was sparse. And my eyes still water a lot.But then I read here about tube mascaras! Do they really really do everything I've read here, like thicken lashes and, crucially, not give you panda eyes?

I mostly wear Clinique (cos I'm a frequent visitor to the U.S. And it's so much cheaper) but my next visit isn't until end Sept.

If Clinique gets the thumbs-up here, tho, I'll buy at their July sale, otherwise is there another make you can recommend, please?

V. Many thanks for replies/advice (even if it IS 'don't bother, they don't work)!
Cheers.

mouse ooh its so satisfying to watch the tubes just drop off.

Yes give us a full review of a few. You are doing this for the greater good!

bikermouse1 · 25/07/2014 21:04

Lol @ gaggiagirl,

Right, my update after a full day of wearing the gold tube No.7 mascara and a 1st for me. Never before have I applied eye makeup before knowingly spending the day doing housework/lounging in the sun...

It is bloody fantastico! Even after a sesh of Deep Thinking this arvers on the terrace, think I mean zzzzing?, face covered in sun oil, I have NO panda eyes. I really can't thank you peeps enough for pointing me to it. Eye definition is really amazing and my confidence in using it when out and about is100 after today's trial. Didn't wake up with swollen eyelids either. Only moment of sheer panic was last night when I took it off with moistened pads and saw the little black tubes lying there, just like what happened when my eyelashes fell out after chemo all those years ago (Christ! Are my eyelashes there in with the tubes?). But they weren't .

So keeping to my plan. Tomorrow going to the big Superdrug and buying thir B stuff and giving it a try.

And next week going to give oil pulling a go....

This biker mouse is firing on all cylinders, and it's all thanks to you lot.:)))

Is benefit they're real tubular?

specialmagiclady · 26/07/2014 06:15

I do find Blinc flaky (especially when old) too and thrilled to know that there are other brands to try. I will rush out forthwith!

Kundry · 26/07/2014 18:05

Thank-you mumsnet for this - gone and bought the Boots one today and it's great! Feel like I finally know what mascara is supposed to be about Smile

Easy to apply (and I always blob some around my eyes - not with this), no clumps, just long dark lashes. A miracle. And waterproof too.

bikermouse1 · 26/07/2014 22:34

You seem as thrilled as I am, Kundry.

Well today I went into the city and bought B.Longer. Really smart grey casing and only cost 7.99! how much does the Boots one cost btw? I bought mine with points on my Advantage card which I threw away, so don't know.

The B Range one is lovely, only drawback for me is that they only had it in black (I bought the brown/black No. 7 and I prefer the colour).

Tomorrow, the ultimate comparison - left eye will be Boots brown/black, right eye B Range black.

Only need to go to Aldi for some more of their sun oil stuff tomorrow. Aldi's seen worse sights :)

Do any of these mascaras come with a nice big brush. I bought the no 7 stay perfect which is great but I'm having to use with a different brush as those skinny brushes are hopeless on my eyelashes Grin

Cereal0ffender · 12/08/2014 10:08

Best bit is removing it !

bikermouse1 · 13/08/2014 08:28

I've just looked at the B.Longer one (larger Superdrug stores stock it) and that's much thicker at its widest centre part (it sort of tapers, sure the shape has a mathematical term), like a stretched out egg? Certainly I prefer that thicker brush but like the brown/black colour of the Boots one. At £7.99 worth a punt....

I am awaiting the Ultimate Comparison < drums fingers >

alittlebitmeh · 13/08/2014 09:54

Thanks bikermouse. That's great. I'll pop in and have a look.

bikermouse1 · 13/08/2014 15:38

Ultimate Comparison I'll do tomorrow.
Promise

You would think that you had...y'know ...a life to lead

Instead of just existing here on Mumsnet for my entertainment Wink

bikermouse1 · 13/08/2014 21:30

Cue song....let me, let me, entertain you....

So tomorrow my left eyelashes will be brown/black and my rt. will be black.
This will be a double trial cos the left will have had the mascara applied with the slimline no.7 applicator while the rt. will have trialled the thicker brush...

Meanwhile, my stubbly legs will have undertaken their own experiment. After chats with a friend who says that using shaving cream is "so yesterday, dear", the left will have been shaved using regular shaving cream while the rt. will have been 'conditioned' to smooth perfection using hair conditioner. Anyone else use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream or is 'friend' perpetrating a massive wind-up?

And, while I'm making an absolute ar*e of myself, anything else anyone wants me to try in the interests of keeping Kristina entertained?Grin

Replying to myself (first sign?)..

See I need to call into my local Asian shop and buy some coconut oil
Will try brushing my teeth with that anorl.
And I believe it's good to treat my dry sun-damaged hair?

I am going to be SO busy tomorrow

OP posts:
alittlebitmeh · 13/08/2014 22:07

Sooo are you applying no7 mascara to both eyes or 2 different mascaras? I have been using the no7 but with a fat brush from another mascara as the skinny brush turns my eyelashes into spiders legs. Not a good look.

bikermouse1 · 13/08/2014 22:23

Two mascaras, which also happen to be two different colours..

OP posts:
alittlebitmeh · 13/08/2014 22:47
Grin
KristinaM · 14/08/2014 00:32

I'm confused by the double trial

It would be better if you had four eyes, then you could use each type of mascara applied with each type of brush

You should have thought of this before Grin

I have heard of shaving using hair conditioner, although never tried it , so I don't think it's a wind up .

And I have tried a small amount of argon oil on the sun and treatment damaged ends of my hair. 'Twas very good . But it wasn't a Proper Scientific Experiment like yours

bikermouse1 · 14/08/2014 06:23

See how excited I am? Just look at the time I'm writing this, and on a day off from work too...

Sometimes wished I'd got eyes in the back of my head when ds was little, but as it is, I didn't and don't, so I'm sticking to my Plan.

I'm wondering how it's possible to push a larger brush into the smaller mascara container, so that's going to be another Experiment.

And all in the name of Scientific Discovery

oldiebutnctoday · 14/08/2014 20:39

Weeeeeellllllll..........? Am fascinated to hear of this tubing business!!

KristinaM · 14/08/2014 22:05

Do you think the excitement has been too much for her ? It s 10pm here in my country

strawberrysplit · 15/08/2014 14:56

The tube mascaras, are they waterproof or do they all slide off if you get caught in the rain...got my eye (sorry, sorry!) on the no7 one.

bikermouse1 · 15/08/2014 21:29

Ooh!million sorries for not reporting back yesterday - had got my black eye/brown eye, shaved leg+ 'conditioned' leg in place, painted my toenails with mmmm Maybelline Orange Attack ( the most FAB colour EVER) and was ready to report back, when .....

Door bell.

So off to the pub and a balti afters.

And tonight I'm taking One for The Team. 9.30 taxi booked and I'm going clubbing. And it's going to be a loooong night.

Will the mascara survive?

And will I?

Will report back tomorrow.

Ps both eyes Boots black/brown but using the Superdrug applicator.

(Sigh) life gets kinda complicated, don't it.
