As always I am a bit disappointed. Too many patterns. stripes and dotty-circles. The only thing that grabs me is possibly the weekend casual dress but the summer version which I have is quite low necked.

boden dresses are awful. To tight across the boo age and waistlines far far too high? Totally agree that the longer length should have a longer bodice. I've given up on Boden dresses

SnazzyHotFlush · 22/07/2014 20:00

Is annoys me how they 'style' their things.

Mustard cords and a coral jumper clash? Er no thanks....

Ooh shit brown drainpipes, yellow belt, khaki dot top finished with bright pink shoes? Yum.

Giant dayglo houndstooth tweedy skirt- (because that is such a flattering combination) finished off exquisitely with a clashing throat gripping crew neck and tacky party-at-the-office statement necklace.

Then there is the oversized, boxy pink and orange suit with flappy three quarter sleeves. Who wouldn't be tempted by the matching shoes to really finish off the look? A jarring orange pattern top underneath really pulls it together.

They seem to be having a bit of an enthusiasm over leopard print too.Lovely idea to put a fully patterned animal print dress with animal print shoes. Shame they didn't include the bag in this shot. What an oversight.....

It is an advertisement for rolling around in a clothes factory,in the dark, covered in glue such is it's randomness.

Orangeanddemons · 22/07/2014 20:01

Wtf? All those typos? Why why?

LadySybilLikesCake · 22/07/2014 20:04

When did they stop printing the really pathetic "Lucy. Things to do on a rainy day - jump in puddles?

SnazzyHotFlush · 22/07/2014 20:06

Ooh this will be a hard one but what is your personal favourite ming dog of an outfit/offering from the catalogue?

ChanelCristalle · 22/07/2014 20:37

I don't have the catalogue but I had a look on line. It's like altogether it's beautiful. Each piece compliments the other pieces in the range. The colours are beautiful. But it's hard to zone in on one item that would be flattering to me.

ChanelCristalle · 22/07/2014 20:37

ladysybil, they weren't called Lucy, they were called Edda, Katya, Ewa

LadySybilLikesCake · 22/07/2014 20:58

That's them! Grin

gerbiltamer · 22/07/2014 23:12

I also miss the model sound bites. WTF about all of the random hounds/birds etc prints. Me and DH were in stitches earlier.

LadySybilLikesCake · 22/07/2014 23:33

Competition with Joules, maybe Wink

MrsEboJones76 · 23/07/2014 07:03

I will end up buying some of the printed shirts for work. I like a spot or a bird print!

What I like less is the obsession with a contrast trim. Unecessary. If I want a grey jumper, I want a grey jumper. I do not need a big band of yellow inside the neckline. Stop with the faux fun and cheeriness Johnnie.

I sometimes buy Johnnie B for myself. I'm only 5ft and size 6-8. The age 13-14 fits me well.

ChanelCristalle · 23/07/2014 07:38

Bird / swallow/ butterfly print is surely OVER by now. I saw that as being inspired by Betty Draper about two years ago. She always wore prints that showed her longing to be free. But that was ages ago now.

CardiCorgi · 23/07/2014 08:24

Thanks for the Johnnie B tip, yes I am smallish (8 - 10 depending on the shop).

I have one Boden dress from about 5 years ago which is great and I keep hoping that they will repeat it. Other than that the waist always hits me too high and I am not a tall woman. Is it Johnny thinking that women want to hide a mummy tummy?

coffeeinbed · 23/07/2014 09:39

Definitely high waists.

I thought it was just me.

PeppermintInfusion · 23/07/2014 10:54

I really fancy a curzon coatigan for the inbetween weather when winter coats are still too heavy but you need something more. Going to hold out for more than 15% off though Hmm

Agree there are joules, white stuff, cath kidston etc rip off sections- very obvious!
Some of the Scotty dog and soldier print are funky patterns but don't know how wearable they'd actually be and you'd quickly tire of something so distinctive, especially the patterned coats.

The clashing colours can be pulled off in a photo shoot but they wouldn't look good in real life.

cloutiedumpling · 23/07/2014 11:03

I like the fit of their dresses, but I am short and pear shaped so the waist isn't too high.

coffeeinbed · 23/07/2014 11:06

There are a few things I like.

I do like how their clothes are made though - all lined skirts are nicely finished inside. I like that a lot, makes a difference.

polyhymnia · 23/07/2014 11:25

I think in fairness Joules are more a rip-off of Boden than vice versa. Don't know about CK. Dislike bags so have never even looked at clothes.

Agree on birds. Cute prints but surely that was done to death a couple of years ago. I know Boden don't see their customers as cutting edge but these look actually dated IMO.

TheFirmament · 23/07/2014 11:39

I know the birds designs are so passe now it makes them look totally behind the times, and they haven't even done them that well. But I just lump all that in with the 90% of Boden wibble that I ignore. They are at their best when they do basic, simple, quality stuff.

Orangeanddemons · 23/07/2014 12:07

What about their 'Internet Exclusives'? Last seasons stock that they don't want to put in the sale. They do it every season!

LadySybilLikesCake · 23/07/2014 13:22

The high waist just make me look pregnant/bloated. I have to be really careful what I buy from them, so I wish the pictures were accurate. I bought a coatigan (I think that's what it's called) last year but I feel conscious when I button it up because the waist is high. I didn't have the hear to send it back as I love it, but it does make me look pregnant (I wear it with a scarf, that helps). Most of the items I've bought for myself have had a problem. The first one didn't unzip properly.

TheFirmament · 23/07/2014 13:26

Exactly Sybil, a high waist or empire line is NOT the solution if you have a bit of a belly, it makes you look more pregnant not less. Cinched in at the proper waistline, or skimming straight down, is a much better look.

I really wish Boden would get the message as it does get told to them over and over again on their review boards. That and the tops and arms being too short.

PeppermintInfusion · 23/07/2014 13:26

Lady I've had a problem with the side zip on several dresses jamming on me, usually the style that has a line under the bust- the zip then seems to jam at the seam

LadySybilLikesCake · 23/07/2014 13:52

It's the hidden zips that do this. They don't allow enough space, especially if there's a join in the fabric, as the zip can't get past it easily. They can sort this very easily by stitching a tiny bit more away from the teeth of the zip.

gerbiltamer · 23/07/2014 14:11

Agree about high waisted skirts: they remind me of certain senior officials at work ;)
