Need an outfit for a VERY smart September wedding

Very excited to have been invited to a wedding in September. Long-standing friends have finally decided to get married and they're doing it in style. DH will be in morning dress and I need a new outfit! I want to do the works - dress, jacket, shoes, hat and bag. I do have a couple of hats and a rather lovely clutch that I might be able to use, but only if they actually match - don't want to plan my outfit around them.

I'm size 12-14 and 5'10". Tummy is my worst bit so not too clingy and I don't like anything much above the knee either.

So, oh wise ones, what do you recommend?

Have also ordered this to see what it's like. Not sure but hoping it might work with cream or navy underneath.

I do like lots of the other suggestions though and may well try a few, especially sale ones!

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but you can't wear an all cream dress to a wedding. Not even if you but a coat over it. Honestly please don't.

this with a navy coat and a hat along the lines of this or this might satisfy your need for cream? Oh, the silver version of that Whiteleys hat would be great with the M&S coat and / or dress, by the look of it.

If you fancy an all over paler how about this with the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.east.co.uk/cornelia-embroidered-coat-brown/?utm_expid=6577807-3.ZpmoP4g7SomsPDtQPU6_Bg.0&utm_referrer=www.east.co.uk/coats/&siteID=TnL5HPStwNw-S.OCoYYtYdmzOMh9aHPWKg" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">pale East coat you liked? You'd need to go with deeper coloured accessories though, for certain. The pewter or deeper beige, maybe?

this with the plain navy coat

this, no coat, would be very flattering. This would be great with it, or maybe this

Cream dress has gone back MrsLettuce. Waiting to see what the M&S coat looks like before I hunt for a dress to go with it. Or might just start again and look for navy and bright orange accessories. I am working through everyone's suggestions - much appreciated and very helpful.

I saw a lovely navy and orange dress the other day, will post it if I see it again.

Found it! Forgot that it was also a great bargain.

I love that MrsLettuce. Seriously tempted. How would I accessorise do you think?

M&S coat is here and I think it needs to go back. DH likes it but I think it's a bit mumsy and it has a hint of pink too. But it could do the job if I don't find anything else. And I only paid £65 - it was £249!

Mmm, probably quite simply - navy jacket (not a long coat), navy shoes, bag and hat. I'd be very tempted to try this with it but it might or might not work.

(I'd be very tempted by this hat in the correct colour combo or all navy. This is another firm favourite of mine)

LOVE the navy and orange dress- this jacket would work well.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I was originally thinking of too Tethers - short and sharp.

The dress is still shouting at me MrsLettuce. Now dithering about size. I'm a 14 atm, usually a 12-14. Not sure what to do if I take the plunge.

Jacket is perfect but out of stock. Given the whole wedding is inside - short undercover walk from church to lunch venue - and it's only September, I might go for no jacket. Not sure. I do have a short-sleeved navy shug that could work.....

Almost time for me to start worrying about what to wear to the evening do - different venue (on a boat), much more casual and four hour gap so I obviously have to change!
