And yet again, it happens every year. The temperature here was 32c yesterday. Today the shops are full of jumpers and boots <<sigh>>

I took DD shopping today, she wanted a tankini.
In Primark (her Go To shop ) where last time they had summer clothes and swimwear, they had Cosy Socks and lace up leather boots.
Coats, jumpers, cardigans.

M&S had some very Autumnal clothes in.

I expect the school uniform in July now.
But FFS Hmm

It's absolute madness. Annoys the hell out of me.

amyhamster · 20/07/2014 07:42

Our Primark has loads of cheap t shirts etc in

CarpeJugulum · 20/07/2014 07:47

Oh yes. DS has just grown again so I need a lightweight / cheap waterproof jacket to keep in his nursery bag to cope with summer showers; it's all duffle coats and jumpers round here now!

Fairylea · 20/07/2014 07:49

Crazy isn't it. The shops need to change their ways. It's been like this for the last few years now. We always have a "late" summer. They need to start to cater to that.

hudyerwheesht · 20/07/2014 07:55

God yes this drives me nuts every year. Its the same the other way around, too- try finding a cardigan or new pair of long boots in February/March when its still frosty outside but all the shops have their summer wear in so it's all bikinis and flip flops. Angry
Ridiculous. Are we the only country that does this, I wonder...?

CarpeJugulum · 20/07/2014 08:45

No. I can say that France does this too - worse than it used to be though.

CalamitouslyWrong · 20/07/2014 10:55

The Asda next to us has had it's school uniform display (the one right as you come in the shop) up since June. Usually it lives towards the back of the clothes departments (just before the men's clothes), so I can only assume that they've decided that the time to market 'back to school' clothing is before the summer holidays have actually started. Hmm

Methe · 20/07/2014 10:56

It is absolutely crazy. Who in their right mind is shopping for winter clothes now?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 20/07/2014 11:04

Haha, my 9 year old gets very upset when he sees the back to school displays so early on in the summer holidays. He says the shops are mean not allowing kids to enjoy their holidays Grin

bakingaddict · 20/07/2014 11:04

Shops have always done this though, you have the new seasons collection in before the end of the old one. It's to maximize the selling time for garments, the longer they are out of the shop floor the more chance they will be sold

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 11:10

Well schools go back here in about 3 wks or so!

CanaryYellow · 20/07/2014 11:10

Don't get me started on this.

I made the mistake of waiting until yesterday to go holiday clothes shopping.

I can't be arsed sifting through all the summer sale items crammed onto the rails with hangers and straps all caught up and twisted so it takes 15 minutes to pull a bloody vest out, and then it's the wrong size.

I got two t-shirt dresses from Primark and a pair of sandals from New Look. And that was it.

I did try on a lovely winter coat though Hmm.

SecretNutellaFix · 20/07/2014 11:16

If shops left it any later to start their summer sales they would be left with a lot of stock which didn't sell because the weather changed. So they reduce the summer stuff and have to get the new season stuff out or the wlls would be bare.

SecretNutellaFix · 20/07/2014 11:17

oh, and as to who is shopping for winter now? I have picked up a new winter coat and casual boots plus some warm slippers already.

CointreauVersial · 20/07/2014 11:23

I don't know how anyone could contemplate trying on and buying winter clothes in this weather.

I bought a Boden dress a few days ago - it's not even particularly wintery, but is lined/formal and I can't even bring myself to try it on. Too hot and sticky!

peasandlove · 20/07/2014 11:55

well it's the middle of winter where I am and I'm buying my summer clothes online in your sales Wink I do this every year.

hudyerwheesht · 21/07/2014 08:06

The school uniform thing doesn't bother me so much as I understand that in Scotland the schools holidays start and finish earlier so June is not so bad.

It's not so much the presence of winter clothes that bother me but the lack of in season stuff. If they need to get rid of it all quickly why can't it just be reduced rather than stuffing it all mixed up on a rail where nobody can find anything while all the next season clothes that no one wants yet get pride of place with everything easy to find?

All the out of season stuff should be stuck at the back in case anyone does want to get in there early and the in season stuff left where it is but reduced in price. Sorted.

And don't get me started on Halloween and Christmas stuff appearing in August.

MackerelOfFact · 21/07/2014 08:16

It's all back to front. I understand wanting to maximise selling time for stock but it's no wonder they have to reduce the summer stuff in July due to it not selling if they've had it in since frigging February when it was still snowing! If they put the bulk of it out in April or something and then began reducing it early September (when it's usually still reasonably warm) they'd still have it on the shelves for the required amount of time... and if people buy it full price out of season then surely they'll buy it reduced out of season as well?!

Makes no sense to me at all. It's the same with Christmas wrapping paper and Easter eggs and all sorts of things though. Leave it until a week before the event and everyone has sold out. Buy it 6 months ahead and the shops are full of it!

Naicecuppatea · 21/07/2014 10:44

I hope not as I've yet to get some things for holidays like shorts, t-shirts, dresses for DDs. Hopefully H&M still have some things in.

cartoontrickster · 21/07/2014 11:39

I've been struggling to find 6month DS some shorts even in the sale. I RESISTED BUYING TOO MANY IN 6-9 MONTH SIZE THINKING HE MAY NOT wear them as he is on the small side. he's just started to out grow some 3-6 month clothes at 6 and a half months can I find him any summer clothes can I buggery. hoping for a cold September otherwise poor DS will be sweltering.

sorry about the caps, stupid phone Blush Blush

splodgeness · 21/07/2014 15:11

In M&S in Bluewater they have got their winter coats out, including fake fur coats. Who can even think of buying that right now? Round the other side of the store they have bikinis. Madness.

SecretNutellaFix · 21/07/2014 18:48

Most shops don't have storage space or floor space to have reduced out permanently.
Especially as no one ever seems to take care with sale rails- the clothes get treated with an attitude of "it's only sale stuff" and get dropped on the floor and trampled on and pushchairs get pushed over it. New stuff does at least get placed back on the racks if it's not what the customer was looking for. As a general rule.

hudyerwheesht · 21/07/2014 20:09

Secret, ime the reason sale items drop on the floor is because there are thousands crammed on to the rails and everything is mixed up so hangers inevitably ping off when you rummage around. I always pick it up (after swearing at it) and stick it back in somewhere but it wouldn't surprise me if people didn't bother because they've lost the will to live by then and it already looks like a clothes bomb has exploded.
Shops need to either be bigger or organise/merchandise more efficiently then it would be a better experience for both the shopper and the person working in retail.

Flipflops7 · 21/07/2014 23:14

What Mackerel said; I wish they'd wake up to this, it must seriously dent profits getting shopping psychology so wrong.

clippityclop · 22/07/2014 09:15

Just had my Autumn Next catalogue delivered. Having flicked through a blur of acrylic and spotted men in ridiculous fur fabric onsies I'm going to stuff it under the bed and leave it there.
