Which SLS free shampoo do you love?

Suddengeekgirl · 18/07/2014 08:34

I am struggling to find a SLS free shampoo that I love.

Naked range was meh
Bodyshop rainforest is my current one - it's ok but I don't love it.

What are you using and is it great?
I don't want to spend a fortune, and if I can get a fairly 'natural' one - the less chemicals the better then that'd be great. :)

I had a look in Lush the other day and the shampoos they had that were SLS free had ammonium laureth sulphate instead and after trying one on my hands I think I'm allergic to that too Confused

Do you all buy these products online or at specialist shops?
I've never heard of half of them- have a large Boots within an hour of me but small local one has little- not even the L'Oreal one mentioned.

Kundry · 20/07/2014 09:37

Waitrose is really good for SLS free shampoo, other supermarkets not so much (Morrisons - forget it).

Holland and Barrett stock some as well.

The L'Oreal one should be in Boots - I got it in our local Tesco as it's a big range, there's Ever Riche, Ever Pure, Ever Sleek, Ever Strong - so really something for ever sort of hair and all SLS free.

Aveda (I'd forgotten this, the Shampure line is fab) is sold in a lot of department stores and hairdressers.

Used to have to buy on line or in little eco shops but there is a lot available in mainstream shops now so haven't had to in ages.

Pinkfrocks · 20/07/2014 09:48

Thanks- waitrose is my supermarket so will look- that's where I bought the Organix.
Will look again in Boots.
Can get Aveda from JL online too but it is £££.

ppeatfruit · 20/07/2014 09:49

Well polyhmna SLS or sodium laureate sulfate was invented to remove grease from garage floors Shock . It is of course VERY cheap so ALL the mainstream manufacturers, who want to make vast profits use it. Including it in Baby products which is immoral IMO!!

spritecat · 20/07/2014 10:08

I foolishly bought L'Oréal Ever Pure shampoo and conditioner after seeing it mentioned on MN. It might not have SLS or silicone but they have managed to find something even more irritating to replace it with.
Nearly tore my scalp apart scratching after using that evil stuff. Truly awful. Never again. Never.

ppeatfruit · 20/07/2014 10:19

Have a look at the ingredients spritecat it may be something you're allergic to. That you didn't know you were!

polyhymnia · 20/07/2014 14:06

My purely personal view fwiw is that, regardless of what it was originally used for, it would only be actually immoral to use SLS in shampoo if there were a body of reputable evidence based, peer reviewed scientific studies demonstrating it had harmful effects on people in the concentration and manner used in such products.

Preferring to avoid it on the other hand is a matter of choice and everyone's prerogative. As I generally use Aveda it seems I probably have avoided it anyway.

ThisBitchIsResting · 20/07/2014 14:45

I like Kerastase Bain De Force - didn't realise it was SLS free. Will definitely try Loreal - not sure which one to go for - Ever Riche seems the most popular out of the different ones they do. I want something that doesn't strip the colour from my hair, and Kerastase is the only one I've tried that doesn't. But a bit too ££ really.

Kundry · 20/07/2014 14:56

A lot of the L'Oreal products are cheaper versions of Kerastase lines - makes sense as L'Oreal owns both. With a bit of guesswork you can figure out which line relates to which.

I think Bain de Force and the Resistance lines = Ever Riche while Cristalliste = Elvive Nutrigloss Crystal.

The 'Ever' line is helpfully labelled in the top corner to direct you which one to go for. For colour it will be one of the Ever Pures.

polyhymnia · 20/07/2014 14:58

Bain de Force is very good (didn't know it was SLS free as I don't check).

Pinkfrocks · 20/07/2014 15:01

Just come back from my medium sized boots and NO Elvive 'Ever anything' there.
I used to use their Nutrigloss which made my hair lovely but was giving me a terribly itchy scalp after a few years so stopped using it.

Pinkfrocks · 20/07/2014 15:08

can someone please post a link to the L'oreal / Elvive sls free shampoos?
I've looked at Boots, Tesco online and L'oreal own website and none is listed as SLS free- so which ones are they?

Pinkfrocks · 20/07/2014 15:10

www.loreal-paris.co.uk/hair-care/hair-expertise-everriche/nourishing-taming-shampoo.aspx
Okay- so this is it? not available at my Boots or Tesco online.

Kundry · 20/07/2014 15:18

Those are the ones! If you tell the website your hair care concern it will recommend you the right one. All the 'Ever' range are SLS free.

I think I use Ever Riche Nourishing and Flowing as I have fine hair. There are about 8 different 'Evers' so prob something for everyone.

spritecat · 20/07/2014 16:09

ppeafruit I thought I had it sussed by avoid Sls and cones. Now there are other ingredients to avoid. As you said more research.

iwantgin · 20/07/2014 18:58

OP- don't be put off by the price tag of the Green People shampoo and conditioner.

The tubes are 200ml - and you really do need to use just a small amount. I have long, thick hair and I use just a chickpea sized blob to wash my hair. I do it daily - and am still on the tube I bought in December. I do keep it away from the DC though :)

BetsyBell · 20/07/2014 19:08

Aveda is expensive but the shampoo bottles are huge and my current one has lasted since October 2013 and is still going! I have long but fine hair washed every other day. So all in all good value for money. I'm not so keen on the conditioner though.

auldspinster · 20/07/2014 21:26

I love everpure but have also been using DGJ kids shampoo which is only £1.99 from Savers and smells of watermelon.

Suddengeekgirl · 20/07/2014 21:27

I ummed and ah-ed and went back to the bodyshop ones - partly because they're fairly cheap (relatively speaking) and because I needed some before we went on hols.

Maybe green people next time... if the bloody car stops eating money

mipmop · 20/07/2014 21:49

The l'oreal range is currently half price in Boots.

Can anyone comment on the ever smooth range?

Lovethebubbles · 20/07/2014 22:22

I've tried a lot, and have found the Dr Organic range to be the best. Purchased from holland and barrett. Currently using the tea tree range but am going to try the Argan Oil one next. Smile

ppeatfruit · 22/07/2014 11:51

Mistry is the answer geekgirl It's effin' amazing really!!! it's good value Grin

ppeatfruit · 22/07/2014 11:53

Oh and if you have curly, dry hair try using a softener in your bath or rinse your hair with it it makes such a difference.

ThisBitchIsResting · 22/07/2014 21:00

I checked my Bain De Force (Kerastase) bottle and it does have SLS as a main ingredient. It's a lovely shampoo but not for those seeking SLS free.
