Why do mums get all dolled up for the school run???

I never thought in a million years I would be saying this
but why??????????

Its probably the fact that I'm sleep deprived because of ds but I cannot muster the energy to dress up, style my hair like a model out of Vogue and get all my slap on, just to walk 5 mins around the corner to drop my dd at school then come home.

Is it just me or is there secret rules that I need to learn about the school run?

You scare me hunker!!! Are/were you a teacher?!

Ulysees · 12/09/2006 10:09

One of my mates goes one school run in her bikini...I kid you not! She has a fab figure, tasteful tatoos, piercings etc... good looking and is a lovely person. So you can imagine the stares she gets mostly from men She mostly does this on sunny days though

expatinscotland · 12/09/2006 10:09

also, invest in good makeup, especially foundation/concealer/primer. easy to apply - then again, i LOVE makeup and have been wearing it since i was 15 - and looks great.

lou33 · 12/09/2006 10:10

is it?

i am always going out with wet hair!

Blu · 12/09/2006 10:11

I get fabulously dolled up because straight after dropping off I go to my secret paramour's love nest for a right old romp (as it's alsways called in the tabloids).

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/09/2006 10:11

I went out without make up on to take DD to nursery this morning, mind you, i dont think I look so horrendous without it. But half the time i do, half the time I dont. Depends how my morning is going. I really don't give a shit about how I, or anyone else looks, I give a shit about how my day is going.

But thats just me

lou33 · 12/09/2006 10:11

i've been to the school run in a bikini, but i usally put some hot pants and a top over it

foxinsocks · 12/09/2006 10:11

yes, so am I lou!

bundle · 12/09/2006 10:11

my hair stays wet all day if I put it up after washing it (it's v thick)

TenaLady · 12/09/2006 10:12

Good for you V

Ulysees · 12/09/2006 10:12

expat, how's your hormones today?

Now I know your secrets maybe I'll have foreign guys complimenting me

littlemissbossy · 12/09/2006 10:12

I work four days a week and go straight from school to work so always look "dolled up" on the school run. But even on my day off I NEVER leave the house without co-ordinating outfit/accessories, make-up and perfume. In fact I've been known to run back in to put perfume/necklace on! It's just the way I am and I make no apology for it. And for the record I am not a competitive person, I'm not insecure, I'm not a yummy mummy and, god forbid, I'll never be part of the "gym" crowd that we have at our school who congregate at the school gates in lycra ... but unfortunately I have turned into my mother, she always was and still is, neat, tidy and matching at all times LOL.

TenaLady · 12/09/2006 10:13

WEll you bikini cladders I hope you are all under 25

bundle · 12/09/2006 10:13

perfume?

JoolsToo · 12/09/2006 10:13

selling yourself short is good way to put it hunker

foxinsocks · 12/09/2006 10:13

my so am I was to going out with wet hair not bikinis (wouldn't want to frighten all the children!)

Ulysees · 12/09/2006 10:14

VVVQV I'd still talk to you

No honestly, I often go without makeup, some days I wear it, mostly, some not. Think we all have to think Vive la differnce to be honest. If we all looked the same then it'd be a dull world IMO.

bundle · 12/09/2006 10:14

I'm sorry, I'm not selling anything. I have a life to live...

Steppy1 · 12/09/2006 10:14

.... I will never walk out of the front door without my "slap" on and washing my hair...I would frighten the children away from school if I did...I could hear the cries of "mummy there's a witch, there's a witch"
Dress is always casual though..unless I'm off for a business meeting when I tend to wear a suit....Interestingly lots of the mums comment by saying "you look smart today"...which makes me wonder whther I look shite on the other mornings..........

TenaLady · 12/09/2006 10:14

Oh yes, yes a bit of perfume, mind you, you have to be a bit choosy around august time cos i find the wasps take a fancy to me.

YellowFeathers · 12/09/2006 10:14

I think if ds hadn't of puked everywhere this morning I probably would have had time, maybe.
I do all the clothes out night before business, cereal bowls etc.

JoolsToo · 12/09/2006 10:15

but make-up is not a prerequisite to looking good surely?

Ulysees · 12/09/2006 10:15

My bikini mate is 39 and would give any under 25 year old a run for their money. Age has nothing to do with being hot. Although I'm sure you were tongue in cheek

Blu · 12/09/2006 10:15

LOL Bundle!

Enid · 12/09/2006 10:16

god its easy to get dressed in clean clothes and put some make up on. Why wouldn't you?

If I saw a mum in her pyjamas at the school gate I would be and think 'lazy cow'
