Sandals comfy enough for a city break with lots of walking

DP and I are going to Italy for two weeks at the end of August/beginning of September. We will be travelling around a few cities and will be doing lots of walking so I need some sandals that will be comfy enough to wear for that. I currently live in Toms which will be too warm I think, or some strappy flip flops which are fine for pottering but not sturdy enough for the holiday.

So far the only option I can think of are Birkenstocks but are they awfully frumpy? And they seem quite expensive too, are there any deals to be had?

I forgot, yes hushpuppies are worth a look.
DD has some comfortable ones and I have had in the past.

I'm just horribly fussy, I want comfort without the sandals being black, white, old lady cream or too frumpy. They must be leather lined, no toe posts and not simple sling backs (I fetch up walking on the strap)

Whatever you get, get them now and wear them in.

Otherwise you won't know if they were a good choice till you get there, and even if they were, they could be a nightmare for the initial 2 weeks or so till you have worn them in.

That makes zero sense reading it back but you know what I mean Grin

Currently in some second hand DM sandals which killed my feet last week but are great now.

Gabor lanzarote
I've walked miles in mine. So comfortable
I've not done Italy but they've taken me around London and Paris as well as walked the dogs in them

I'm late to this - for serious huge amounts of walking you can't beat Teva. They have slightly smarter, less sporty designs now. Personally I don't care - if I'm doing that much walking I need my feet to be comfy.

For walking round town then I tend to wear my Mephisto Helen sandals - like Birkenstock Arizona they have a higher strap up your foot to provide extra support. I have them in multiple colours I like them so much, I also wear them to work in the summer. The toe post makes them look a bit smarter. Birkenstock Gizeh is similar in style.

Clarks with two straps over the top. They aren't pretty mind, but you won't care. Italian cobbles are murderous on the feet, take lots of cooling foot stuff.
