Curling DH!!!???!!!

FlatErika · 03/07/2014 14:51

Hello,
First post, so a little nervous so please bear with me. Thing is, DH is no spring chicken anymore (he just likes to think he is) and his longer than average hair is thinning/disappearing. When my hairdresser comes round she also trims and blow-dries DH's hair, and sometimes uses curling tongs to get more curl and hide the thin bits a bit more. He moans but loves it really and it does look good when its done.
I can't blow-dry hair for toffees and tongs are a lethal weapon in my hands (just ask DD!) but I am quite good with rollers and think I could get the same affect with them and hairdresser agrees but she doesn't carry rollers as part of her home hair-kit. HAs anyone curled their other halfs hair? I mentioned it half jokey and he didn't refuse outright but is worried that he will look totally redikerlous and if anyone finds out he will be laughed at for ever. Iknow rollers are not used as much as in my mums day but think the result will be worth the effort. Any thoughts?

No no no! Put down the appliances, this sounds like one step away from a comb over!Shock

The second a bloke gets thin on top then shorter is the way forward.

I have to agree. Please, please help him to accept it and get himself a nice short cut.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/07/2014 16:50

I'm a bit shocked the hairdresser uses tongs on him tbh!

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2014 16:52

Shave it off at once!

Some men actually look better baldWink

DH started losing his hair years ago (probably on meeting me!) and he has it very short forever to minimise the effect of his bald patch.

Nulliferous · 03/07/2014 16:55

Please don't do this.

Just reading about it has made me sad.

JamJimJam · 03/07/2014 17:01

Nooooo!

I guarantee this looks dodgy.

GlaikitFizzog · 03/07/2014 17:04

Unless this is your dh, no, no, no,

Did I say no?

NO!

Crikey...flaterika will be scared off with these comments.
Maybe it works for her dh??
why not anyway?

iklboo · 03/07/2014 17:46

Have you seen American Hustle?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/07/2014 17:47

Green-because with no exception does it ever look ok.

Bluestocking · 03/07/2014 17:54

Thank goodness you said American Hustle, Ilkboo, I was just reliving that awful scene as I read the OP.

MonterayJack · 03/07/2014 19:09

Noooooooooo. My dp had a gorgeous mop of thick black curls. Now (50's) it's thinning in a circle over the crown and receding at the temples. Also lots of greys. It took him a while to accept that really it looks a heck of a lot better really cropped. The barber just does a no-2 cut with a razor). It looks so much better than trying to salvage his departing curls.

DesperateHousewife21 · 04/07/2014 06:54

monteray like Jon Snow??! Wink

Scarletohello · 04/07/2014 07:01

So sad for men that they lose their hair. But yep, short is the way to go!

FlatErika · 04/07/2014 10:41

No not scared off (yet!) But thinking. Problem is DH doesn't look good with short hair, longer hair suits him better but its not long enough for a ponytail (he doesn't like ponytails on men) and he deffo won't go for a combover look. Curls just make it look thicker on the crown where he's losing it. Ho hum

MonterayJack · 04/07/2014 15:07

Does short hair definitely not suit him or could it be that because he doesn't wear it short, he isn't used to it? The thing is though that if the bald patch gets bigger then it's going to get harder and harder to disguise it and it will either looking obvious. One of my brothers also had curly hair and used to go to great lengths to disguise it because he claimed he had 'a peanut head'?! and it didn't suit him. After years of paranoia every time the wind blew and fear of anyone touching his hair/head, he also went for short and it looks lots better. It's hard when a bloke has lovely hair to have to lose it. V unfair. But even fabulously rich blokes such as Rooney, Elton etc can rarely successfully cover the thin/bald areas up with transplants, weaves, styles, wigs etc.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2014 15:07

Surely if it's even a bit shorter then it will become lighter and curlier?

Keep it long but no curling or disguising balding pates is the number one ruleSmile

MonterayJack · 04/07/2014 15:09

No more like this than Jon Snow Desperate :)

AWombWithoutARoof · 04/07/2014 15:14

Longish at the back and thinning on top? You're not married to John McCririck are you?
