Strapples dress for school run - Tarty?

ChocFudgeCake · 30/06/2014 22:29

I bought a dress and now I fear it is inappropriate for the school run. It is a maxi dress, with a side slit to the knee, jersey material, not stretch but kind of loose, the chest area and back are just straight. So it is not enphasizing the breasts... But still I'm thinking probably tarty.

Maybe just don't wear to drop off and collect kids?

AuntySib · 30/06/2014 22:55

Or put cardi/shrug/denim jacKet on top?

Dollydowser · 30/06/2014 22:57

I've seen plenty of mums at school wearing similar. Not my cup of tea, but I am probably 20 years older than the ladies who are wearing them.

MotherBluestocking · 30/06/2014 23:45
  1. Why care?
  2. As AuntySib says, a cropped cardigan or jacket would be fine.
DottyDooRidesAgain · 30/06/2014 23:49

OP it's not like your sporting a min skirt, boob tube an thigh high PVC boots!

It is summer.
It's a maxi dress.
Unless your DC goes to school at a nunnery I wouldn't worry Grin

*Disclaimer no offence to anyone who chooses to wear a mini skirt, boob tube and thigh high PVC boots on the school run.

Blossum123 · 01/07/2014 06:38

Oh god I have a ds starting next year - are they set rules ?!!!

KarlWrenbury · 01/07/2014 06:39

I hate those dresses. Think they're a bit rough. But tbh the "school run" is just everyday life.

KarlWrenbury · 01/07/2014 06:40

Think if you wear them you have to shout "geddere brannon do you want a slap?" A lot. #judgy

DottyDooRidesAgain · 01/07/2014 06:56

Karl this is yet another thread where you are unnecessary vile. Hmm

OP ignore Karl the rest of the world do hence why he/she has ishoos.

elQuintoConyo · 01/07/2014 07:31

What does 'tarty' mean? Something a prostitute would wear?

It's hot outside.
It's a dress.
You're taking dc to school/picking up.
You're not going to a funeral.

Wear what you like as long as it is teemed with ballet flats, cropped denim jacket and statement necklace! Joke

HarrySnotter · 01/07/2014 07:37

Can you link to the kind of dress you mean? I have a very posh friend who wears what sounds very similar to this and couldn't look less 'tarty' if she tried.

KarlWrenbury · 01/07/2014 07:41

delighted

KarlWrenbury · 01/07/2014 07:41

you have to be overly tanned with a tattoo on your shoulder.

thepurplepenguin · 01/07/2014 08:09

Well said dotty. So predictable.

Fwiw I think strapless maxi is fine, any other length and it could be a bit dubious though.

MotherBluestocking · 01/07/2014 08:48

Just back from school run where I saw a mother in a dress exactly as described. It wasn't a great look, but I don't think it was the dress's fault.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/07/2014 08:51

Strapless maxi's should only be worn on the beach/holiday.

There a few mums who wear them at DS1's school and without exception they manage to look rough and try-hard at the same time.

VillaVillekulla · 01/07/2014 09:11

OP where what you want. Your dress sounds absolutely fine.

After several years of school drop offs and pick ups I still don't understand why so many people stress about what to wear. Just wear your normal clothes. If that's what you'd usually wear during the day, wear it for the school run.

VillaVillekulla · 01/07/2014 09:11

Sorry, "wear", not "where"

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/07/2014 09:13

Wear what you want, I would just be worried about a young DC tugging on it and pulling it down to unseemly levels, or tripping over the front of it and the same happening!

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2014 09:14

I think maxi dresses can look perfectly fine...I see a lot of them around here. Usually the person in them has sandals, huge sunglasses, and a messy bun. :) It doesn't look tarty.

Although the slit...I'm not sure about that part. But it probably looks fine!

VerucaInTheNutRoom · 01/07/2014 09:18

One of the mums at DS's school often wears a strapless maxi dress. She had a fabulous figure and is very elegant so we all look on with envy not disapproval!

OnlyLovers · 01/07/2014 09:24

Oh, who cares. If you like it and it's comfortable, wear it.

ChocFudgeCake · 02/07/2014 18:53

Thank you all! It's good to read everyone's opinions.

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 02/07/2014 18:55

I wouldn't judge. I would be a little jealous if anything as my shoulders are far too bony to wear anything strapless.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/07/2014 20:21

Long strapless maxi dresses are very much beloved of the good ladies of Romford.
I DO worry if one of them trips on the hem.....we'd all cop an eyeful Confused
