Strapples dress for school run - Tarty?

ChocFudgeCake · 30/06/2014 22:29

I bought a dress and now I fear it is inappropriate for the school run. It is a maxi dress, with a side slit to the knee, jersey material, not stretch but kind of loose, the chest area and back are just straight. So it is not enphasizing the breasts... But still I'm thinking probably tarty.

A dress code. For the school run? I don't really notice. I will make sure I am not in PJs from now on.

Clutterbugsmum · 02/07/2014 20:36

I saw 2 mums today dropping children off at school in a similar looking dress, one look really good the other one not so much, but it had nothing to with the dress.

wafflyversatile · 02/07/2014 20:40

So a summer dress, in summer? Sounds ok.

burnishedsilver · 02/07/2014 20:53

Are the schools still open?
I'm in Dublin. There's no school run till Sept.

Bunbaker · 02/07/2014 21:13

"Are the schools still open?"

State schools in England and Wales break up around 18th July. If you get such long holidays in Ireland do you still get two weeks at Christmas and Easter, plus a week at half term every term?

PeachyTheSanctiMoanyArse · 03/07/2014 09:13

Are you kidding OP?

Wear what you want. If you can see your undercrackers it's a probably no-no, but otherwise it's OK.

I've collected in a formal prom gown with tiara, and dressed as Athena in full facepaint before now.

Seriously though, just be yourself. Be comfortable, especially when wrestling a tired small child school bags and lunch bags home in the crowds at 3pm.

Today I wore a cotton sundress that shows the scars I have on my legs but is coll and practical; another mum wore a mini 6" platforms and boob tube. Nobody died and no kids passed out in shame (the later is common at our school, lots of heels and the like)..

I think you win, Peachy Grin

I was going to be a little more diplomatic, but seriously, wear wtf you like!

I'm not saying I don't understand your questioning, because I, in the past have wondered exactly the same. I genuinely don't care anymore. Not sure what's changed really.

If you feel comfortable in it, wear it.

Bunbaker · 03/07/2014 18:14

I must admit I would be worried wearing a strapless dress to a school where there are likely to be children tearing around who might catch my dress and drag the top down Blush

cjbk1 · 04/07/2014 19:54

Yes they do bunbaker

Bunbaker · 04/07/2014 19:58

Do you think they do it on purpose?

500smiles · 05/07/2014 07:13

Wear what you like. My super classy friend is tall, slim and elegant and looked amazing in her strapless maxi at pick up today.

GretchenWiener · 05/07/2014 07:23

ours break up on 24th july ages to go yet we get a longer OCt half term

Fairylea · 05/07/2014 07:34

Strapless dresses are fine as long as your strapless bra fits really, really well and is as supportive as it can possibly be. Otherwise personally I just think it looks awful.

SanityClause · 05/07/2014 07:40

What is "tarty", anyway?

I mean the dress would be inappropriate for a business meeting, I'll grant you, when everyone is wearing suits or smart dresses, but the school run?

The only thing I will say is, I recently saw someone wearing a strapless maxi dress, and she looked a bit uncomfortable, as if she was concerned it would slip down. She sort of hoiked it up every now and then.

Only wear it if it's comfortable.

SanityClause · 05/07/2014 07:45

Peachy, the first time I read your post, I thought you meant it was common for children to pass out in shame!

(Then I realised you meant that it was not unusual for mothers to wear boob tube, mini and high heels.)

Barbs111 · 05/07/2014 22:49

I done the school run in the same denim shorts and boob tube vest top I had put on to wear for the whole day..... And I'm 7 months pregnsnt!

Who gives a stuff couldn't care less what others thought, if you like it, and it's what you like wearing then wear it!

I personally wouldn't wear any of the clothes that 90% of the school gate mums wear (jogging bottoms flashing there ankles and Dolly shoes) but if there comfortable then good for them who am I to pass judgment!

GretchenWiener · 06/07/2014 08:09

You done it?

Sunnyshine · 06/07/2014 08:11

I wear these type of dresses all the time, i hope no one thinks these things about me.

PigletJohn · 06/07/2014 08:13

Go to the corner gretchen.
