Looking for a non wedding wedding dress!

I'm getting married at the end of August ( eek! ) and it's going to be a really really low key affair. No flowers, no photographers ... Just a simple ceremony and then lunch.

I can't bring myself to just throw on an existing outfit from my wardrobe though so I need something! And this is where it gets tricky. I don't want anything white or flouncy or wedding-y or over the top. Maxi dresses are out as I'm not very tall. Oh and nothing that requires heels.. I can wear maybe three inch heels max ... I am 5 foot 4 ( a shade under ) and my other half is 5 ft 7 tops.

I also don't like shoes really. I live in Toms , Vans, Uggs , a pair of pistol boots and a few other pairs of ankle boots.

Here's my stats ...

I'm just under 5 ft 4
I'm size 10. Not a toned, willowy size 10 however - an untoned one with wobbly bits and a fat stomach. 34/36 C or D bra size. So things like bandeau style dresses are tricky because I have a tendency to rolls of fat coming out the top.
I'm fair skin tone with brown hair and hazel eyes.

I'd like something that doesn't accentuate my stomach ( it's like an apron of fat and although I have Spanx , that tends to squidge the fat elsewhere ) and I'm not sure about those dresses that have a band under the bugs and then flare out because they make me look pregnant . I'd like something oyster coloured or mink etc but will consider anything at all bar neon and black / navy. Nothing too light because I fear I'll look enormous

I'm also old ( 42 ) but I don't want anything frumpy. Oh and I'd like to wear said dress with a pair of mink coloured suede mint velvet ankle boots ... Or would this be beyond wrong? In my head, it's cool and makes the look less ' formal ' plus it's more ' me '

So ... Please please please ... Any ideas? I've trawled John Lewis online and now am stuck.

Thank you !!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I looked at all of them and have finally made a decision! And it wasn't something I'd considered before or anything suggested here - although I was so tempted by a few of them. Actually, more than a few!

I can't link on this phone but the dress - in case anyone is remotely interested - is a Somerset by Alice Temperley one and it's called Deco Lace dress and the colour is 'oyster' ... It's not at all bling or exciting looking but it's got three quarter length sleeves, it's flattering ( ish ) , it's relatively dressy whilst not being particularly bridal and I managed to wedge my fat stomach into the size 10. It's also not too long and not too short.

To go with it I chose a rose gold Lariat necklace thing and matching bracelet by Foli Follie and err that's as far as I've got!

Onto a nice bag now maybe? And I'm now not sure if it'll go with my ankle boots - can anyone have a look at the dress and tell me if it'll look daft with boots?

I'm now thinking about

This one? Cute! Sure you'll look fabulous.

(Do you really need a bag?) Can't tell about your boots, depends on proportions...

It was a pleasure to join your search - I actually dreamt of one of the dresses! Hope you have a wonderful day.

I was just dying to post This beautiful, if you have the right figure for it, gown

But I think THIS is what won the day

Have a wonderful wedding OP Thanks

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 12/07/2014 23:49

yes! that's the one ( and that linked dress is amazing but I'm V short so it wouldn't make me look slender and classy Grin Grin)

the Somerset one isn't as skater style as it looks; it's just fairly fitted and reasonably flattering.

hmm maybe I don't need a bag?

Have a gander in TK Maxx. Never know what you'll find in there! My wedding dress found me, when I went in for kitchen stuff. It's knee length silk crepe number. Lovely! I'm wearing it with comfy ballet pumps from Clarks. No flowers & photographers, or guests, here!
Although, I saw a gorge Alice Temperley dress in a boutique today. Luckily it's a size 8 & 1,500 euro... Neither of which works for me!

You don't need a bag, you just need a sidekick to keep all your stuff for you and hand it over as and when!

AbbieHoffmansAfro · 14/07/2014 13:20

Sorry, meant to say the dress is lovely.

Saw some beautiful shorter beaded dresses in Monsoon and Coast (in Debenhams) yesterday. Thought they'd be perfect for a smaller wedding as I passed them: lots of colours not all cream/white.
