What colour are you chic people wearing on your nails?

I have recently decided to get a grip, be a grown up, and paint my nails. I am generally a scruff and tired of it.

To this end I bought a classic red polish (Essie), some Seche Vite whatsit and did my nails. I was delighted! they are so shiny and lasted more than 25 seconds. Now I want to branch out with my colours.

I am going to Paris in a few days with my best friend for a long overdue toot. What would be chic on my nails? I am short, have short nails, a low key style (uniform: flat shoes, skinny navy jeans) but in my head I am quite fashiony so open to odd things Grin

I saw Bobbi Brown Navy in a mag recently and liked it but is navy a bit try hard? I am 31 so neither young nor old enough to be naturally insouciant.

I'm wearing 'my nightly craving' at the moment.

rootypig · 19/06/2014 19:22

I like googling all the bonkers names. I get the nail varnish, and some other stuff Grin

I love opi polishes, I have far too many of them, some I have never even worn.

My favourite colour at the moment is nude.

Matte and pastel colours are very fashionable at the moment

Barry m blood orange is a gorgeous orangey red and it's from their hi shine range and looks shinier than my last gel nails!

So cheap but so good!

Also love their papaya for summery toes

rootypig · 19/06/2014 20:12

Anyone used Orly? they have lots of colours I like and seem to be smaller sizes, which would probably suit my budget and attention span Grin

They also have a matte topcoat

Orly plum noir is my favourite! Their top coats are great. I just used a glosser one.

rootypig · 19/06/2014 20:30

Loving all the talon pics you get on google images Grin

I've got this www.lacqlustre.com/2013/12/new-maybelline-color-show-street-art.html with navy underneath on my fingernails and red No 7 gel look with blue sparkles on top on my toenails.

rootypig · 19/06/2014 20:40

Oh my god all the arty things! christ. Those are really cool Caty. This is a whole new addiction world.

As my name suggests (Essie).

Chumhum · 19/06/2014 21:06

I'm wearing the Mavala blue that's free with this months Red magazine on my toes, it looks fab against my tanned (fake) feet with tan sandals. Due to have a manicure tomorrow I've currently got a very dark navy I think it's Chanel with a Matt top coat but shiny at the tips, looked fab when it was done but you can't really see the shiny tips two weeks later. Am considering a french manicure but using yellow instead of white tips.

Beaverfeaver2 · 19/06/2014 21:21

Light grey

Beaverfeaver2 · 19/06/2014 21:21

It came free with instyle magazine

rootypig · 19/06/2014 21:22

Oh chum you are creative. I really like the looks with different / unusual tips. Do you think you can do tips with just the normal brush (with practice), or do you need pens?

I am a Chanel fiend, but their nail varnish is awful. I'd never heard of essie a will now order a load...!

TwoNoisyBoys · 19/06/2014 21:30

Love Maybelline 'Rose Poudre'......also Rimmel 'Rose Libertine' (which is a lovely colour, but have to use a pinky colour underneath as a base coat because otherwise it's quite thin and patchy)....and my favourite nude atm, Sally Hansen 'Stocking Nude'
Usually have fingers and toes matching, unless fingers are taupe/nude, in which case toes HAVE to be glossy red. It's the law Wink

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 19/06/2014 21:46

I have each one painted a diferent colour.
Left hand white, lilac, red, brown, tourqoise
Right hand peach, blue, yellow, pink and black. I'm going to paint them glittery grey for tommorow. X

Elsiequadrille · 19/06/2014 21:47

I wear the Maybelline Rose Poudre. It was a recommendation from here originally. I really like it.

I've just bought the Essie Peach Daquiri on the back of this thread Grin Will be watching this thread with interest.

rootypig · 19/06/2014 21:57

God I'm totally down the rabbit hole here, am reading this blog which is fab if slightly obsessive Grin

LOVE the name Rose Poudre, so romantic, might have to buy for that alone!

Right now I have got navy on my toenails and OPI Taupe-less Beach on my fingers.

Loving it and my manicure has lasted about a week with absolutely no chips.

Blithereens · 20/06/2014 09:31

Mint and coral are my two big loves at the moment. Right now I have Barry M Textured Ridley Road on my nails, with an accent nail (ring finger) done in Picture Polish Coral Reef, then polka dots of the Ridley Road on top of the coral. Love it Grin

Models Own brought out a nice little collection of polishes for tanned hands - but your hands don't have to be tanned! They are just nice bright summery polishes.

Blithereens · 20/06/2014 09:32

I also have navy toes (with sparkles) and have just bought OPI I Love Applause which looks to be a gorgeous nude.

HolgerDanske · 20/06/2014 10:30

Ohh Malory I do like that colour! I would love that as an autumn/winter colour.

That and navy would both be scrumptious. Sigh. No more spending this month :-(
