How to wear a maxi with big boobs?

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 17/06/2014 12:44

Most days I'm either working from home or here with the children, and I'd love a nice maxi dress to just throw on in the summer weather. I found this one hoping I won't be stoned as it's from the dreaded Debenhams but there's no way I could wear it as is, what with the boulder holder foundation garment spots and stripes. So, I what could I put under it to make it more wearable? I'd prefer not to have to rely on a cardigan/shrug as they won't resolve the gaping problem at the front, and a t-shirt underneath makes it look like I just forgot to take off my pjs.

I remember seeing net 'bibs' in a catalogue that came in the post or something...

Interesting, thanks, they might work for some other tops I've liked but not bought because of gaping. I don't know if they'd be enough for a dress though, I don't really want my bra showing on the sides/back either.

could you buy the triple pack and shove them everywhere? Wink (not helpful)

www.bravissimo.com/pepperberry/products/dresses/#/1

These may be a bit expensive, but maybe worth looking at the styles

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 17/06/2014 13:21

I have this maxi dress and can cover up with a cami top on underneath. Wide enough straps for industrial strength bra too.

They have loads and are cheap

KatoPotato · 17/06/2014 13:22

Theres! That is gorgeous!! I'm getting it!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 17/06/2014 13:27

Glad you think so! I just got looking at all the rest then and had to stop before I bought any more.

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 17/06/2014 13:32

Kato, that will only work if they sell them in single colours, I'll investigate!

Summertime, thanks, I saw loads I love on Pepperberry, but not what I actually want!

Theres, that is really nice, thanks. I've never used boohoo.com before - what are they like for size, quality?

I also found this insanely expensive but possibly gorgeous one. I'll investigate boohoo further before doing something very rash...

Yes, the danger with with these 'cheap' dresses is you buy 4 colours of each one!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 17/06/2014 13:42

I've only bought from them a couple of times. The quality on that dress is fine and the size was spot on for me. I would say that the quality is similar to river island, a bit up from New Look and Primark but you won't get anything amazing for their prices.

I think that the Yumi one would make me look wide and monoboobish? Horizontal stripes and a high neckline!

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 17/06/2014 13:55

I usually find horizontal stripes ok, especially when broken up a bit like that, but the high neck might be difficult. The store near me hasn't a great selection, so I know I won't be able to try it on there. Thanks, I'll have a better look at boo hoo later, RI quality sounds good for those prices.

I am a 32FF and I have this problem. I love maxi dresses and what I have found as a inexpensive option is little stretch vests from primark for £1.50, worn underneath the dress. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I'm cash strapped Blush

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 17/06/2014 18:42

Boudica, that's exactly the response I was looking for, that it's ok to stick on a vest top! I've only recently acquired a fashion-worthy body, so I'm a bit lost with all of this...

juneybean · 17/06/2014 18:49

I was just coming on to recommend primark for vests! however I tend to size up as they can ride up on me...(big hips)

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 17/06/2014 21:42

I have just bought this
www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0114-2081-155L000&productvarid=0114-2081-155L000-BLACK%20WHITE-18&refpage=promotions/sale-highlights

It looks much nicer on and is a lovely weighty jersey fabric but still cool.

TheBitterBoy · 17/06/2014 22:48

I have this which is brilliant as it has enough boob coverage (GG cup here) and no need to worry about hiding bra straps. New look were stocking it when I got it a few weeks ago.

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 27/06/2014 23:18

Just back to update this. I ended up buying this dress and [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ISW6RKO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this one]] on foot of another thread, and they are great! No bra parts on show at all and great prices - whoop!

OP posts:
FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 27/06/2014 23:19

Um, link fail. The second one is this lovely one

jobellinger · 01/07/2014 18:58

Thanks ladies, these are brilliant tips! I'm usually a 32FF and since giving birth have gone up to 32GG, which is a nightmare! I'm buying two of these dresses as we speak. For a bit more cash I'd also recommend this dress www.saintbustier.com/classic-drape-dress-in-stone.html which has been worth every penny! The website in general is brilliant for big boobs :)

WildThong · 01/07/2014 19:07

I got this one from HoF in the sale. It's lovely on.
