S&B jury, I present the perfect summer dress

Or a really good one anyway.
shirt dress from h&m
It's modal, feels really cool & comfy. Looks kinda preppy/boho. Has pockets!!

I bought it 3 days ago, have gotten loads of compliments & feel very comfy yet stylish.

Caveat #1 I have yet to launder it
Caveat #2 I do prefer my shoulders/upper arms covered, others may feel differently!

I paid 30, so I presume £25 or so...

This one - it looked khaki in the shop though rather than beige!

Why don't Sainsburys sell online yet? Really annoying. I bought a gorgeous white cotton embroidered top, really lovely, in a size two sizes too big so Ihave to return and wait for the right size to appear, which it won't. Grr.

Ah yes, I saw that dress today and liked it (although it was a tad crumpled on the hanger). I like Lyocell too and am thinking this one might be nice too for those who prefer sleeveless:

I could never work out why things looked fine on models but were way too short and out of proportion for me till I was told catalogue and online shopping models are usually about 5'8" otherwise very little would fit them.

It's catwalk high fashion models who are 5'10" plus.

Good luck anyway tall lady!

Ooo well spotted Frankie! I'm going back to look for that one...

I love it!

But we have no H&M. And I would be too tall for it anyway. :(

Okay. I can't sleep and I'm feeling reckless brave. Can someone please explain to me what is lovely about that dress. I just can't see it. I am long overdue a wardrobe revamp and I am beginning to think I just don't understand clothes anymore.

Wouldn't a shirt dress with darts and shape be better? Why is shapeless with drawstring so cooed over? I feel suddenly old (and can hear myself sounding like my grandmother) but seriously - it looks like a sack to me.

I am actually quite worried I have slid into middle age without noticing.

Fideliney, I can't see anything special or even lovely about this dress either. It's pretty sack-like in my eyes. If you have curves, surely this would make you look like a bag of potatoes?

Also, I find it really boring to look at. Wouldn't look twice at anybody wearing it, not even the model. But then my taste is questionable. Grin

Not just me then Smile

I'm prepared to bet Grace Kelly wouldn't have worn it either.

(but I still feel aged)

It looks lovely on the model but I agree with you, Fideliney about the drawstring and lack of shape. But I am deep into middle age so that probably won't make you feel any better Grin

With a closer look, it is good for casual wear. It would probably look lovely with glowing skin and pretty sandals.

But it's still not my perfect summer dress. I am a petite hourglass and that would utterly drown me.

Too orange is the new black for me.
Glad you like it

Think yourself lucky - I won't even be middle aged for much longer Grin

I'm with Fideliney. Would be very unflattering on me. I need a bit extra length as tall but need shaping not gathering over my vast hips

Break the rules Flo Grin

Is this how much it costs to have actual seams?!

Oh I've muddled them up, but there's some length and tailoring there.

Report
Floisme · 17/06/2014 07:24

Yes that's more like it - although so it should be for the price. I would look shite in that colour, mind.

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 17/06/2014 07:26

It is lovely.

Unfortunately shirt dresses always look like I've forgotten to get fully dressed in the morning. Or um after the night before...

Looks nice on model tho

Khaki would be nice. Or chocolate. And a heavier fabric. Not bloody linen They are not easy to find. I need a dressmaker.

Fideliney · 17/06/2014 07:27

Ah I have just belatedly noticed that OP has crucial word 'skinny' in her NN. That explains a lot.

Too short. I learned the hard way with a lovely GAP denim dress that you have to err on the side of caution with shirt dresses because of the gap at the bottom underneath the last button (unless faux opening on the skirt, can't see).

It looks nice and fits my criteria of having sleeves. However, shirt dresses are a no-no for me with my 30GGs.

It would look terrible on me -- no shape and what looks like an elasticated waist (even if it isn't). No thanks.

SinglePringle · 17/06/2014 08:10

It's alright. The kind of thing I'd sling on after finishing the housework to head into the High Street in. I'm 5'8" and a size 10 with boobs so it would look ok but it's not all that.
