I'm looking for some high black shoes - they have to be high to go with what I'm planning to wear, but they also have to be comfortable because I'm going to have to be in them for a good portion of the day. Any suggestions please?

Yes and no in my experience.

Yes, top end high street are more comfortable than cheapies. No, this does not apply to high end designer stuff, they can huuuurt!

I was always led to believe this but having bought my dream Choos (v high) last year, I can report that they are just as uncomfy as all my other shoes from New Look and River Island!

I have some from Jones that are both high and comfy, but whether this is just luck or typical of theirs, I'm not sure.

In my experience the reverse is true, have a small number of prada, laboutin and Gucci, can't walk in them, but love my Clarks heels and LK Bennett. But it may be mid market is best as the skyscraper heels from places like new look are also pretty unbearable

Marks and Spencers heel with the Insolia technology are really good. I have some astonishing high ones and can wear them all day no problems.

IMO all high heels are uncomfortable, but that is just me.

My experience has been the same as everyone else. Mid range is usually the best comfort-wise

I have yet to find a high heel I can be comfortable in for more than about half an hour standing, both in terms of backache and hurt feet. Clarks etc are better than New Look etc though.

I don't think so. A colleague and I used to regularly wear 4-5" heels and she bought some Choos precisely because she thought they'd be more comfortable. They weren't. The most comfortable heels I ever had were from Reiss.

I have only ever bought one designer make (which I actually got cheap on eBay - £18 instead of £299) and they were not in the least bit comfortable, the leather was poor quality too. Call me cynical, but when you are paying ridiculous prices for shoes you are paying more for exclusivity, and the filthy-rich lifestyle of the designer, than anything else.

The most comfortable shoes I have are recent M&S purchases, they have padded "insoles" and I can wear them for hours. I actually find Tesco heels quite comfortable too.

No my comfiest heels were a fiver

I once had a pair of Roland Cartier shoes that were pretty high heeled black pumps. They were more comfortable than trainers!!

I wore them until the sole was in tatters and couldn't be repaired properly.

Other very comfortable shoes - a pair of silver heels from dotty p s, a pair of d and g high heels.

The designer shoes I have are definitely not my most comfortable. Primark are the most uncomfortable ever though.

Really cheap new look/primark ones hurt. Very expensive high end designer ones hurt as previously mentioned. Mu gucci, prada and choos are for looking good only.Hit and miss with anything in the middle IME.

I agree high / mid range is better than either cheap or designer.

Designer shoes are not for "pedestrians".

M&S do some very comfortable heels, at very reasonable prices. As said, look for Insolia technology.

I agree m and s have got comfy high shoes sussed. Sadly they don't always look quite how I'd like them too. But they do have some brilliant ones occasionally.

gel insoles on the ball of your foot especially help

Another mid-range vote, and another thumbs-up for Clarks if they have a style you like. You can get some gel toe or arch supports, too, but they won't make a too-tight shoe any more bearable.

Oh, M&S. Neena28 has it right, their shoes are comfy but gosh they are dowdy. They just never quite get the cut right.

I love the style of Dune heels but often find them unwearable without gel pads in the back.

My comfiest, wear all day, highest heels have been high street.

I find a substantial sole is good (platform better than thin) and a slightly boxier heel (the thinner the heel, the more unbalanced and the more uncomfy imo), also a strap to hold it to your foot so toes aren't clawing to keep them on.

I got some russell bromley make platforms on eBay, they were gorgeous but I thought they were uk7 but they were uk5. Even too small I could get them on & they were so comfy and easy to walk in. My sil got them & loves them tho.

I agree with Scarlett. A strap makes a heel much more comfortable if you're going to be doing a lot of walking.
