How come everyone else can wear a maxi dress

But me?

I've tried on loads today, they all make me look like fatter than normal, I'm a brick shape I think..wobbly tummy decent legs bingo arms.

Can anyone help me find one that might suit?

I am 5ft and have a couple of these dresses
www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/dresses-203543/petite-dresses-204109/petite-khaki-t-shirt-maxi-2763479?bi=21&ps=20

I look pretty good in it I think and it is so simple to throw on.

They are a bit passé now .i wore them for the last 3/4 summers and now I think they look daft. I'm 5 ft and I wear them , either get them shortened or get petite . I'm hourglass and have hideous legs so they look good on me ..If you have good legs surely a fit and flare dress would be much better .

noddyholder · 15/06/2014 17:25

I have been wearing them since the 90s they have always been stylish in a retro way The current floral strappy cheap ones are maybe passe but evening with a furry jacket they still look cool I think.

Juniper can we add crocs (shoes, I have nothing against the animal) and the colour pink?

Maxis suit me, but I have fat pasty legs and toned arms so they show off the good bits and hide the bad bits...

MonterayJack · 15/06/2014 21:21

GoldenDandelion I really like that Dotty P dress but 2 of the 5 reviews said it was trailing on the floor. Like you, I'm 5' and wonder where about on your ankle it reaches?

areyoubeingserviced · 15/06/2014 21:35

I only wore maxi dresses when I was pregnant as I didn't care about looking fat.
I have rarely seen anyone who looks good in maxi dresses.
It's like wearing an evening dress during the day

Juniper Size 4 shoes???? Please explain!

motleymop · 15/06/2014 22:19

oh no whereisshe - please not pink, I beg of you! I was hoping to add a few dashes of hot pink around my place to brighten up the otherwise neutral scheme a bit

motleymop · 15/06/2014 22:25

tiggywinkles - I am not sure re long skirt/top combo, sorry - experimentation may be key

bishboschone · 16/06/2014 07:04

I'm 5 ft and have the Dorothy Perkins petite one in navy . It is long but you can kind of flick it as you walk .

PickleSarnie · 16/06/2014 11:42

Sob....sob.....I just bought a maxi dress and now, reading this thread, have just realised that people will be thinking I look like a prat.

I hate my legs. They are like tree trunks. I like my boobs though. So I bought this thinking I could hide my legs and distract people from my wobbly bits with my norks: The dress that I guess I'll probably now be returning!

I'm 5'9" and a size 16. Will people be pointing and laughing at me?

BravePotato · 16/06/2014 13:09

Pucklesarnie, wear whatever suits you with pride!!

Who knows what the maxi dress haters look like Wink
