Kids grown up so no school run, but dress still required for those summer days when you need to just throw something on and just go.

Opinions on this please...

I'm a 30GG and my usual next size fits fine.

Each to their own, but its a really easy dress to wear as far as I am concerned. Its a dress you need to try on before making a decision.

The opinion of almost every item of clothing is subjective I suppose... but I'm afraid I don't like it at all. When I think of summer I try and think past typical UK weather and dream of picnics in summer meadows, fun trips to the beach, and so on. To me it looks drab and shapeless, and I'd never buy linen as it always seems to need a lot of ironing... something which I loathe doing.

These are my kind of dresses (which I'd smarten up or down with an appropriate cardy)... which I'm sure you'll hate:

If you are happy with your dress, then that's great... and if it's non-sweaty on a hot day then that's a plus too.

To be fair, the OP asked for opinions. Surely it's ok for us to explain why we don't think that much of it?

nilbyname · 14/06/2014 22:12

whoops!

this?

nilbyname · 14/06/2014 22:12

or this?

fingersonbuzzers · 14/06/2014 22:13

Though I'm no fashion expert - I bought a dress for me from the teenagers section the other day as I loved the print!

thenightsky · 14/06/2014 22:15

To be fair, the OP asked for opinions

Indeed... which is why I'd like to know why it could be 'hideous'. What makes it so?

OP posts:
fingersonbuzzers · 14/06/2014 22:18

No idea why it's considered hideous

It doesn't offend me or anything. Just find it a bit bland.

Aliceinvodkaland · 14/06/2014 22:20

just k#look at it and you will know why it is hideous come on

Aliceinvodkaland · 14/06/2014 22:20

you can do better!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/06/2014 22:23

It is drab and shapeless looking, imvho. It doesn't look as if it would flatter anybody.

miffybun73 · 14/06/2014 22:25

I'm with Aliceinvodkaland

I'm no style expert (far from it), but that is just really hideously ugly. Even the beautiful model looks horrendous in it.

scottishmummy · 14/06/2014 22:26

Ghastly,unflattering shape.looks like hemp sack

This dress is fab value and great quality. I ran around everywhere in the navy version last year and people always thought it was White Company.

thenightsky · 14/06/2014 22:31

Cherry.. that Tesco one is lovely, but I think it looks like a tennis dress. Plus it is too short and would show my croissant-like knees.

Pollywallywinkles · 14/06/2014 22:31

OP wanted something to throw on and go; I think this fits the brief in that department.

I went for it as I wanted something easy to wear and I wanted something that was loose as a change from my usual fitted dressed.

Must say I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it on as it looks fairly bland on the hanger. Although it is not that easy to wear with some sort of coverup.

TheBuskersDog · 14/06/2014 22:35

No, this is hideously ugly, the Next dress is just quite plain.

Cherrypie32 · 14/06/2014 22:40

Ah, if it helps there was a navy version in my local Tesco (but not online) and it's a good knee length on me 5ft 5' ;))

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/06/2014 22:52

I cannot buy anything in Next - it is inevitably a huge disappointment after the initial excitement has worn off. I go with the previous posters who think it is a completely nondescript dress and you would need exciting accessories to make it look more special and this is why it looks good on the "bum lady".

I would vote against it, as no way I could make it look good for the school run after I spent ages doing DDs hair and five minutes left for me to throw something on. Any pair of jeans / shorts would look better.

These Tesco dresses look nice and much easier to wear. I'd buy all of those.

CointreauVersial · 14/06/2014 23:51

Not a fan of that Next dress - even 40-bum looks awful in it, and she can make nearly anything look good. Looks like a floppy old sack.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 15/06/2014 00:36

I think it's a nice, reasonably priced school run dress if you're the right shape - which I'm not. Bloody "does my bum look completely non-existent?" lady's dresses all stop at mid thigh.

I'm currently dithering over this. I like it for a middle-aged pear shaped vanity size 10 but I'm relying on you lot to tell me it's horrible because I know that my ironing skills aren't really up to scratch for it.

CointreauVersial · 15/06/2014 00:46

That's really pretty, LadyIsabella. Although, yes, it will test your ironing skills.
