What do you wear for the school run? Do you care?!!!

Dd1 is starting school this week and I know that most of the mums really make an effort over their appearance for the school gates. Some are yummy mummies, some look mor elike on-the-game mummies, IYSWIM. One mum, who looks gorgeous, gets up at 6 every day so she can get herself ready.

I've been pg for so much of the past 4 yrs I've had to kit myself out with a whole new wardrobe. But I know there will be days when I don't get time/ can't be bothered esp. with make-up. But the school gates are very cliquey and I don't want dd1 to feel her mum doesn't measure up.

What do you do about this?

twinset?? whats one of those?? PMSL!!
Today for instance I am wearing a tartan mini-skirt, cropped black tights, a red sleeveless top with lace on the arms, and DMs boots. Tomorrow might be jeans and a top...

If I see a goth in the playground tomorrow, I'll rush over and whisper "are you sparklygothkat?" - lets make a MN pact, if we see her, we must speak to her!

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:25

lol!!!

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:26

won't be in the playground tomorrow, just visting the school, kids will be starting next week,

I would say this, too, Mama.

On the way home I saw a girl dressed like this. She was so long and tall, she reminded me of how my elder daughter is going.

MamaG · 04/09/2006 23:27

have we convinced you to be yourself yet?

Thomcat · 04/09/2006 23:28

Well apart from red lace on the arms of the top, sounds like a great outfit.
Sorry, just being honest and I don't think I'd like the red lace.
But would still be drwn to you

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:28

yes, I think so.... I couldn;t get away with a twinset anyway, I have pink and blue braids... lol

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:29

not red lace, red top with black lace

MamaG · 04/09/2006 23:29

pmsl at image of you in a twinset! Hope it made you giggle too.

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:30

its made me pmsl

Mercy · 04/09/2006 23:34

Sparkly, I would be drawn to you too!

But if you are concerned how about a slightly 'toned down' version of the way you would normally dress for a bit - and then just go back to who you are?

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:36

like jeans and a top, I brought a read and black striped top today, I think I might wear that. Can't changed my hair tho lol!

SparklyGothKat · 04/09/2006 23:36

read=red

HyacinthB · 04/09/2006 23:40

Just don't get that feeling of censure about what you wear at the school gates - perhaps it is because it is a small village school, but it's not the 'jungle' that some other posters seem to experience

crunchie · 04/09/2006 23:47

I have certainly gone to the school in whatever is next to the bed, glasses (I wear contacts once I am awake) and unbrushed teeth!! I have gone with last nights makeup on too

TBH it has depended on what I am doing that day, in my old job I was either going to meetings, so I would be high heels and funky clothes, or going to teh office in jeans. However I am a SAHM for a few weeks so tomorrow I am planning to go to the school in running gear with teh dog and go off straight for my run.

I understand why some people worry but TBH I couldn't give a flying whatsit about teh school gates. I am more worried about takinga new job where I might have to wear a SUIT EVERYDAY!!!! I DON'T DO SUITS
