New hair dryer needed please!

So my wonderful Nicky Clark hair dryer is about to die (burning smell) and so I'm in need of a new one. What do you use and love? My budget would be no more than £30-£40 at very most, must be powerful with long cord and beable to cope with my thick curly hair which I dry straight.

Thank you :)

Spend a tenner more and get a Parlux. Otherwise Toni and Guy but really a Parlux, mine was £50.

stringbean · 01/06/2014 19:40

Be careful with Parlux - they are not at all robust which, given the prices, they should be. Mine lasted a month before I noticed a big crack in it. I'm very careful with my stuff, so suspect it was ds handling it a bit roughly (although he swears he didn't drop it). By contrast, my trusty Babyliss (which I passed onto dd and have had to wrestle back) is still going strong after 17 years.

Madamecastafiore · 01/06/2014 19:41

Buy a Parlux. People always comment on how shiny my hair is and I swear it's the hair dryer.

Madamecastafiore · 01/06/2014 19:42

Go to a hairdressing wholesaler and you will save a bit.

mckenzie · 01/06/2014 20:40

I second Parlux. And it saves time as it dries my hair so much quicker.
And I second wholesalers for best prices.

threepiecesuite · 01/06/2014 20:44

I've had a Parlux for 5 years and it's still fantastic. I have thick wirey hair which I blow straight.

IDugUpADiamond · 01/06/2014 21:04

I've had my Parlux for over 16 years and when it packs up I will replace it with another Parlux.

stringbean · 01/06/2014 21:18

Hmmm....I got my Parlux from Amazon; given that others have found them long-lasting, I'm beginning to wonder if I was sold a fake.....It feels like really thin plastic, and dh commented how my old hairdryer was much better quality. A couple of you have mentioned a wholesaler - where are these?

threepiecesuite · 01/06/2014 21:25

No, my Parlux is heavy and feels like what the back of a Kindle feels like? Sort of slightly tactile plastic.
It is loud and strong and robust. I love it.

stringbean · 01/06/2014 21:51

No, mine isn't heavy. I was a bit surprised as reviews had mentioned that they were, but it didn't seem too bad when I used it. It did come with a guarantee for repairs etc, but this doesn't cover items that have been dropped. I can't prove that it wasn't but equally, I expect a £60 hairdryer to be a bit more robust Sad

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2014 21:57

Mine isn't heavy, it's lighter than my old Toni and Guy but definitely robust and looks 'quality.'

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 01/06/2014 22:48

Oh wow, seems like a winner! Where do I get at wholesaler price?

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 01/06/2014 23:10

Cheapest I can find is £60 and I can justify that! Not a huge fan of babyliss. My mum has one and when I use it I feel like my hair is fried and that's not even on the hotest setting! What about treseme? Anyone used their hair dryers? Few on offer in boots

I asked the sane question about 6 months ago when my normal hair dryer died. I have long slightly wavy hair that needs straightening.

Everyone said Parlux... I was a bit Hmm that a £70 hair dyer could make any difference but I bought.... And oh my!!! It's amazing! Changed my hair, lovely and sleek, can get away with just blasting it with no straightening.

It's fab!!!

frankietwospots · 02/06/2014 10:16

Wow...loving the sound of this. How do we get one at a wholesale price?

IDugUpADiamond · 02/06/2014 10:23

A Parlux is an investment product in my opinion; you'll never regret it because it will last your years and years, so cost per use is tiny. Plus your hair will look amazing.

Birdsgottafly · 02/06/2014 14:06

I've had my Parlux for ten years and dropped it everywhere.

I agree it gives a salon finish to hair.

I've just looked on Sally's website and they do different models, so compare carefully when you buy.

My DD's and friends have them, some have got them via their own hairdressers.

Saganoren · 02/06/2014 15:13

God, I am longing for my 20 year old hairdryer to die so I can justify a Parlux. Would it be very wrong to drop it out of a tall window?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/06/2014 15:15

Just drop the thing from a great height! Wink

Honestly, any other drier pales in comparison!

ThisBitchIsResting · 02/06/2014 19:54

Lurking for any links to cheap places to buy a Parlux...

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 02/06/2014 20:37

What models have you all got so I can compare?!

OP posts:
emilyofnewmoon · 02/06/2014 21:26

www.beautybay.com have Parlux from £55.97 free delivery. Am very tempted.

frankietwospots · 02/06/2014 21:29

But which is the best model?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/06/2014 21:47

Parlux 3200 is what they use in salons. Really no need for anything fancier imo. Iirc beauty bay is where I got mine from

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 02/06/2014 21:53

www.beautybay.com/electrical/parlux/g/parlux2800dryer/

This is cheapest but noticing that that wattage is really low compared to others from boots for example that are 2200 watts. Surly the higher the wattage, the better the power?
