Arm hair

I have dark hair so my arms are quite hairy, I've bleached it before now but never removed. Recently I've been looking at other women's arms to see what they do and most seem completely hairless.
What do you do? Should I wax or epilate it off?

I use Immac cream

AtSea1979 · 31/05/2014 19:23

Ah didn't even think of that stuff! Just on your lower arms?

I shave mine. Comes back blonde and soft, unlike my leg hair!

Meglet · 31/05/2014 19:37

Bleach it regularly and use my lady shave to take some of the length off when they feel really shaggy. The bleach must damage it quite a bit because it stays soft even when shaved down a bit.

Wax all the way for me!

I've been doing it for a while now and when 6 weeks and I'm due my next appointment I have barely any noticable hair (it was like a blokes before).

ReadyToBreak · 31/05/2014 19:42
  • when six weeks is up

God, I'd love to wax mine off. I know it sounds daft, but I'm embarrassed to go though.

skillsandtea · 31/05/2014 19:45

Epilate. Takes less than five mins. Brilliant

fingersonbuzzers · 31/05/2014 19:47

Really?! It's never occurred to me to do anything at all to mine. Is it normal to get rid of it then? Not being judgey just never knew it was a 'thing'.

dottytablecloth · 31/05/2014 19:49

Philips lumea for home ipl!

It's fab- I used to bleach my arm hair but to be honest blonde/yellow hair looks just as noticeable as the black ones!

I think it is a 'thing' now! Most people I see have hair free arms!

fingersonbuzzers · 31/05/2014 19:58

Actually I think I am a bit judgy about it Sad

fingersonbuzzers · 31/05/2014 20:01

NOT judgy of people who do it - just, more when I was growing up it was a cultural norm to shave your legs and pluck your eyebrows.

My poor DDs are growing up in a world where women are expected to have no leg hair, arm hair, pubic hair.

But crazy eyebrows Grin

AuntieBrenda · 31/05/2014 20:01

Immac. I used to get it waxed but I've not much time these days. When I used to go, they never batted an eyelid. Loads of people get it. I even had my fingers - knuckle area - waxed! And my toes! I have pcos. I'm a bit furry :)

whereisshe · 31/05/2014 20:09

So intrigued by this, I never realised it was a thing. I have quite hairy forearms.... Now wondering if I'm inadvertently exhibiting poor grooming standards (wouldn't be the first time).

Where do you stop on your arm? Isn't there a line if you wear a sleeveless top between bald forearm and downy upper arm?

friginilla · 31/05/2014 20:12

What's there to be judgy about? It's only like shaving your legs and personally, I'm more likely to have my arms out than my legs.

I try to shave mine once a week. I have pale skin and dark hair, I only like that combination on my head ('cept when I'm threading my moustache of course Grin )

fingersonbuzzers · 31/05/2014 20:18

I'm not judgy about people choosing to do it. I'm judgy that it's become and expectation yet more bits of women that have to be chopped off so that they're socially acceptable.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 31/05/2014 20:19

I had my arms waxed for my wedding, as I'm pale with dark hair and thought it would look bad.

It didn't look bad, but it looked...weird. My now DH wasn't convinced either! I'm never doing it again.

fingersonbuzzers · 31/05/2014 20:19

Style and beauty is really not the right place for this, though, sorry Blush

starsandunicorns · 31/05/2014 20:21

I shave have been doing since I was 15
41 now

friginilla · 31/05/2014 20:23

Fair enough, I can see your point. Its perfectly valid too.

AuntieBrenda · 31/05/2014 20:27

I stop at just above my elbows, where the hair stops. I use Immac sensitive and usually leave it on for about 5 mins. Maybe every 2 weeks. I use soap and glory scrub of your life in between to keep my skin in good condition and it keeps karatosis pilarsis (red bumps on upper arm) at bay too.

Onsera3 · 31/05/2014 20:28

whereisshe I think that is why my beauty therapist always insisted on waxing the top of the arm as well. I always protested that the fine hairs up there didn't bother me but she was adamant it would look strange.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. They see hairy people all the time.

The first time I thought it made my arms look much slimmer.

I might try the old epilator this weekend. Don't have time for full body waxes any longer!

ohmymimi · 31/05/2014 20:33

I epilate. Done in a flash, while watching T.V.
