they are like maxi dresses in the way they are discount fashion darlings -

cutting fabric skill = minimum
can use shit fabric - check,
will cover the carb curves of your average shopper - check,
will cover salami legs - check

Do you mean the kind of trousers that people used to wear to Levellers gigs, with each leg a different pattern?
They were truly godawful.

TigsytheTiger · 31/05/2014 09:01

Grin I know! Plucking up the courage! And praying for sunshine!

noddyholder · 31/05/2014 09:03

I have a sort of Indian print pair but not cuffed at ankle ok with flip flops and a fitted top but I think the big flowery ones would make anyone look like they are in pyjamas! Plain harems look nice though again fitted not floppy

Lottapianos · 31/05/2014 09:13

I don't give a fig. I wear them everywhere - they are dead comfy. Ok not the most flattering garment ever but its ok not to look styled to within an inch of your life at all times. I do have an excellent arse though :-)

off to New Look to get the loudest floral/jungle print pair I can find

noddyholder · 31/05/2014 09:17

I don't think anyone is saying they are styled to within an inch just because they want to wear things that are flattering.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2014 09:24

Whoever said they wore them circa 1985 - I'll join your club.

Mine were black with red hibiscus flowers and white palm leaves < tasteful >. I wore them with a red t-shirt and (I think) ballet pumps. They came from Wallis Blush.
Why exactly I was buying clothes from Wallis aged 22 is a whole other story.

They looked crap on me even then, thinking back - I'm slim but hourglass-shaped, so anything baggy and elasticated makes me look like a binbag tied in the middle.

I reckon triangular-shaped or straight-up-and-down will get away with the shape but still look like they're in their jarmas.

I see 19y/slim students wearing harem pants every day - never seen one who didn't look like she was missing her camel.

Agree re. Fashion trying to make all but the extremely young and lithe look frumpy - look at the mum jeans and baggy boxy tops all over the shops. They don't want the likes of us in their club. Skinny jeans kept us all at bay for a few years, but now 60 y/olds are wearing them so they have to find another way to demarcate the favoured few. Imo.

3.bp.blogspot.com/-3dkeGYkortA/UvmClTzw5cI/AAAAAAAAA5I/APCeQHPgT3c/s1600/Olivia+Palermo+Harem.png I wear this type may have to rethink but don't feel massive in them really

EduardoBarcelona · 31/05/2014 09:38

Oh they're not baggy or long enough . Or horrible garish print

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2014 09:39

Ok, the girls I see are usually wearing ones made out of some sort of sacking - those are a vast improvement.

I do think she'd look even more gorgeous in a pair of crops - but I can see people get bored with the same looks.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2014 09:39

Was talking about harem pants just then.

Lottapianos · 31/05/2014 09:42

No noddy, don't rethink! Wear what you like. I think they look lovely

TheFairyCaravan · 31/05/2014 10:03

I had those Next ones on yesterday!

EasterSundaySimmons · 31/05/2014 10:15

There is a danger of them looking like children's trousers or pyjamas.

I have just bought these (worn with a long loose black top and black flat sandals)

www.asos.com/River-Island/River-Island-Geo-Print-Trousers/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4214405&SearchQuery=Harem&sh=0&pge=2&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Blackprint

And these which are very comfy

www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Harem-Pant/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3850190&SearchQuery=Harem&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Black

I also bought from asos, a warehouse pair but they looked awful on me, too right on the leg but puffy from waist to crotch,

I do have some similar ones that I bought from matalan and they fit nicely.

EduardoBarcelona · 31/05/2014 10:28

i quite like those river island ones
oH GOD
