Before and whilst I was pregnant I was using Mitchum roll on deodorant, which suited me perfectly for a long while.

However, since I gave birth (5 weeks ago) it just doesn't work on me. I smell a bit....erm...fruity most of the time. Think it's a combination of night sweats and losing pregnancy fluid. I have heard that this can happen. I have also tried a Sure spray deodorant which doesn't help either.

Has this happened to anyone else? What products would you recommend?

Thanks in advance Thanks

I had this for months after my son was born... I use mens right guard now

littlegreengloworm · 28/05/2014 19:06

I have no advice but can I also add to this his do you get rid of sweaty smells on clothes after using useless deodorant Hmm

MrsPnut · 28/05/2014 19:09

I use the sure cream roll on, that costs about £5. It's the only one that I've found works. For sweaty smells on clothes, I always use a bio washing powder and also add biotex to the washes. I have to wear cotton tops and avoid anything polyester.

CrepeFoofette · 28/05/2014 19:37

Comforting to know that i'm not alone!

Thanks MrsPnut will give it a go.

Soak clothes in white vinegar and water for an hour or overnight. Or put half and half vinegar/water in a spray bottle and saturate armpits and leave for a while before washing.

I use garnier clean sensation 48 hr roll on, used to be stinky and that is working atm

MrsLettuce · 28/05/2014 19:45

Vodka will remove the smell, spray on before washing.

TBH I just used to babywipe me pits and re-apply antiperspirant at nappy changes, there was nothing else for it.

whereisthewitch · 28/05/2014 19:48

After I had DD and was breastfeeding I stank! Constantly sweated and that was in the depths of winter! I had to shower twice a day which isn't easy to find time for with a newborn.

No advice but you've just reminded me of this (dc2 due in a few weeks). Once i stopped breastfeeding at 6 wks I stopped sweating so definitely hormonal.

MrsLettuce · 28/05/2014 20:09

I'm almost certain that it's 'hormonal' - mine stopped at about 6 or 8 weeks. I was still BF each time.

lucyemmett · 28/05/2014 20:14

Simple roll on. It's the best, I never ever smell

ShoeWhore · 28/05/2014 20:19

Vinegar on the armpits of clothes helps to get rid of the smell.

There was a thread on this the other day - washing with anti bacterial soap was recommended iirc.

Wolfiefan · 28/05/2014 20:23

Another vote for Sure 48 hour cream. (Not that I'd go 48 hours without washing!!)

littlegreengloworm · 28/05/2014 20:25

Thank you Flowers

QueenCadbury · 28/05/2014 21:05

I always felt like a smelly sweaty mess when BF too although I am a rather sweaty person anyway. I've recently swapped to Sanex shower gel which has been great for getting rid of smelly pits as I found after using other shower gels that I still smelt sweaty. I still haven't managed to find the holy grail of deodorant/antiperspirant yet though.

Looserella · 28/05/2014 21:25

It's Simple!

kippersmum · 28/05/2014 23:29

Try Dri-Chlor at nights, see if that helps. I'm a Mitchum fan & I found that once things settled down after having my DC's it worked again so don't bin the stuff you have.

CrepeFoofette · 29/05/2014 07:26

Thanks all Thanks

Don't worry it's hormonal and will soon stop. I read that the strong smell is to ensure that your newborn recognises it's mummy. I used to mix body scrub with shower gel to clean my underarms and give them a good old scrub.

DavenotChas · 29/05/2014 09:14

I've used driclor in the past and found that although it stops the sweating it really irritated my skin. Mitchum just doesn't cut it anymore and the anti-perspirant sprays have no chance. I've recently discovered triple dry and so far it's holding up brilliantly. Put it on at night after showering and no sweaty pits for me the next day.

DavenotChas · 29/05/2014 09:17

I haven't recently given birth btw, I just sweat alot Grin

TKKW · 29/05/2014 09:26

Yes, me too! 4 weeks postpartum. New shortie pyjamas and pillowcase every single night for me.

Actually, other way round for me, i use mitchum now as Sanex no longer works. The roll on Sanex in blue or pink worked best as i found the peach roll on smelt fruity when combined with sweat.

Gillybobs · 29/05/2014 13:04

Triple dry is amazing stuff. My extra sweaty dh and teen sons all use it. Apply at night after a shower. It's incredible.

QueenOfThorns · 29/05/2014 13:09

Driclor also made me itch like mad. I had to wash it off! I use the Dove cream stick thingy, which I think is probably identical to the £5 Sure one mentioned above.

TheFillyjonk · 29/05/2014 13:13

Yes, Driclor is horribly itchy - I shudder from the memories!

Triple Dry roll on is very, very good and I think gives 72 hours protection although I use it more than that. You could also try those armpit crystals (PitRok?) that are meant to absorb odour.

IlonaRN · 29/05/2014 20:44

I haven't given birth, but did go through a lot of hormonal changes last year that resulted in my being a bit stinky.

I found Vichy 48hr anti-perspirant deodorant is the only thing that keeps me stink-free.

For getting the sweat smell off clothes, I use a trick I read online: rub disolvable aspirin on the underarm bits and soak before washing. I do it every so often with my work shirts now.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 29/05/2014 20:50

Not a birth related stink, but I did a white wash of ds's work shirts, dds school shirts (last time whoo hoo) and Dh's white ts. They minged still after washing, so rinsed them with white vinegar, then a plain cold rinse. Magic, all stinky ness gone.
It could be your nose that's a little over sensitive.(mine was for ages)
