Can you recommend me a REALLY good anti-perspirant deodrant?

I have been using the Dove deodrant stick for years as it wa the only one I ever found that worked. But now it has stopped working and I have no idea where to start :-/

I work in a shop that doesn't believe in air conditioning and I'm sweating (and smelling) like crazy and it's so embarrassing. I went through one shift with my arms stuck to my side because I smelt so much.

I bought a Mitchum stick deodrant after reading good reviews but it does nothing. Have started taking 2 tops to work to change half way through my shift because it's that bad!

Can anyone give me some suggestions?

driclor it changed my life. No more ruined stained clothes, walking round with tisses stuffed under my arms etc etc. I use it about every 2 weeks these days, maybe less.

AWombWithoutARoof · 24/05/2014 07:46

Ah yes, the Mitchum stick is rubbish, the roll on is much better.

whereisshe · 24/05/2014 07:57

Diet can help reduce sweating... Things that make you sweat more: alliums (garlic, onions etc), spicy food, caffeine, alcohol. And hot drinks when you're hot (weirdly) help cool you down.

Other than that, the only deodorant I find works is dove 48 hour invisible. And I also find I smell more at certain points in my cycle or if I haven't waxed under my arms recently. Avoid polyester like the plague as well obviously, it makes you sweat and it holds on to smelly bacteria (I put tea tree oil in the wash to try to get all of the stink-making bacteria out, even for non-poly).

also maybe stating the obvious but I get more sweaty when working and if i get flustered or anxious I can feel it. When driving as well stuck in traffic.

When at home even if busy I rarely sweat plus on holiday in a boiling hot climate.

Vichy is the only thing that worKs for me. Expensive but better than being smelly. The 48hr does that I've tried really hurt my armpits it feels like carpet burn.

Veins · 24/05/2014 12:19

Deo's not does

Jumblebee · 24/05/2014 19:39

Ok so on your suggestions, I bought some driclor so we'll see if it works Smile I bought some Dove spray as well just in case! Hopefully tomorrow I will smell like....nothing Grin

If it doesn't work then I'll have to have another look at all your suggestions! Thank you all so much!

I alternate between the Garnier mineral ultra dry, sanex micro talc and vaseline intensive care Active fresh. Driclor and others like it just made my armpits itch like mad until I had to wash it off again so I could get to sleep.

hoboken · 24/05/2014 19:53

Mitchum roll-on is great

TheReluctantCountess · 24/05/2014 19:55

The Mitchum spray is rubbish - the actual can stops working half the time, when it is still nearly full.

I like Sanex, the blue topped one.

When you shower, give yourself a cold blast at the end.

littlegreengloworm · 24/05/2014 19:59

WARNING jumble please be careful with driclor I ended up with large cysts from using it and closing pores.

peasandlove · 24/05/2014 21:38

make sure you dry your armpits thoroughly and are not fresh shaved before applying driclor. It doesnt actually itch/sting me anymore .. it's worth it anyway

Ohbollocksandballs · 24/05/2014 21:42

Mitchum roll on. I likes it a lot. Took a whole to start working though.

NotAgainTrevor · 24/05/2014 22:21

I am a sweaty Betty, I use Dove 48 hour straight after showering and then add a squirt of anti-d spray when getting dressed. Couldn't live without it now. Hated Driclor, it dried me out and make my skin sore and itchy.

Jumblebee · 25/05/2014 19:30

Well I tried out driclor last night. It tingled a tiny bit but it didn't bother me. Then I showered and splashed with cold water after. Applied my usual Dove stick deodrant. And then Dove spray. And then when I got to work a little more spray because I was paranoid.

And no sweat! And no smell Grin I am very happy, I didn't feel self conscious or worried about if I was smelly at all! Yey!

I'm using Sure for Men compact and it's really good! Yes, I don't smell like a dainty springflower, but I don't smell like sweat so that's grand!

I have noticed it's not a true 24 hour one though - as I smell odd in the morning, but it lasts well all day even in all this heat.

Juno321 · 25/05/2014 19:44

The Mitchum stick has been great for me.

squoosh · 25/05/2014 19:44

Hit me with your Mitchum stick!

peasandlove · 26/05/2014 11:27

yay for the driclor. I dont even use deodorant now, well maybe a small bit of rol lon "just in case" but unless it's time to reapply it, i just dont sweat at all

Nonemoreblack · 26/05/2014 12:50

Be careful with driclor - it made my skins really itchy and painful, I had to stop using it. Sure max is very good, you put it on at night (or morning), it reduces sweat production, a bit like driclor but less strong.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2014 12:52

Another vote here for Mitchum roll on.

doorbellringer · 26/05/2014 12:58

I started using Mitchum roll on on the strength of this and another thread and I am very impressed. Definite convert here too.

Clarabum · 26/05/2014 12:58

I love driclor. Word of warning though- don't use it when you have just shaved your armpits. It's freaking agony.

Jumblebee · 26/05/2014 13:00

Clarabum I definitely won't be doing that! Applied it again last night and it itched a bit more than the first time, I'm a bit wary because the pack said apply it every night and gradually reduce but I don't know how gradual gradually actually is! I don't want to smell but I don't want really itchy armpits at bed time either Confused

I found with driclor I had to use it for about two weeks a nightly before it really started working. It worried me though, pores need to sweat (ie not be blocked) to a certain extent to do their job of removing crap from your body and also I get ingrown hairs etc quite easily, so I stopped using it.
