Where do you buy your work out gear?

I need to replace all my workout tops again, I have to do it fairly often as they just end up stinking of sweat. Last lot I got was from Gap with a 30% discount code. I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't really want to have to keep replacing them - any ideas? I need approx. 10 tops and some sports bras.

I've just had a quick look and the Gap stuff I brought which is now stinking was in Sept 2012 so that's 20 months of use and they really do stink now. I actually thought it wasn't that long ago so that's quite good.

How do your wash your kit? My dh cycles 30 miles a day to/from work and his stuff pongs if I don't wash it at 60C. I know it's not great for the lycra to wash at high temperatures but it does keep them from smelling.

I wash it at 40oC. I do 1 load of washing per day so I figured it was better to get it in and washed rather than letting it sit covered in sweat until I have a full load of exercise gear to wash.

I wash gym gear (which gets pretty sweaty) at 40 degrees and it seems fine. Well, so far, although I must admit none of it is very old. Time will tell, I guess.

My clothes never smell of sweat if they've been washed no matter how old or frequently worn

sweetheart · 23/05/2014 11:44

That must be very nice for you Suzsanne

It's never occurred to me to expect any different but thanks to the epiphany bestowed upon me by this thread I can see that I am blessed

Sweatless, fragrant Suzanne. I'm envious. Grin

I might have a dangerous metabolic disorder, an inability to excrete toxins Confused

of course I sweat, but it's not of a kind impervious to detergent!

Costco have some nice Nike technical tops and Under Armour tops in atm, plus I like their yoga tops too, very similar to a range in sweaty betty.

Have bought bits in Debenhams - some of the Elle stuff is quite nice. Runners need often have bargains, have bought saucony and asics from there. I also like Nike in the outlets - a fraction of the store prices, especially if you go for the odds and ends of ranges.

sports direct seem to fade after a while, not overly keen on theirs.

I bought a lovely seamless vest for running from sainsburys tu. It is really long so doesn't ride up and fits well. It was £10 but 25% off until Monday I think.

Wore it this morning to run 10k and v happy with it so going to buy a few more. I got turquoise and think they had other colours including pink..... It compares favourably to far more expensive running vests I have.

I was reading an article about deodorant today and it said the following about sweating.

'While diet and hygiene habits can play a part, the truth is that whether your body odour smells or not is genetic - and there's a fairly simple test you can do to determine if yours does, which involves looking at your earwax. According to research, people who have dry rather than sticky ear wax are highly likely to have the ABCC11 gene variant, which means that their body odour doesn't smell.'

Quite interesting! (well I thought so!)
