Can I wear a bikini?

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 15:37

I really don't want to wear a one piece, or a tankini.

However I do have a horrible belly Blush it is so flabby ... I'm not fat but it's just my stomach!

But we've booked the holiday of a lifetime for September and I'd love to wear a bikini. Any suggestions?

god yes just wear one
take a vest top for when you wander around. that coordinates

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 15:46

It's nice but I'd look awful in it - it would draw attention to my midriff rather than away from it!

1950's style?

newnameforanewstart · 18/05/2014 15:51

OF COURSE YOU CAN! ANYONE CAN WEAR A BIKINI ok I will stop shouting now.

Its all about how you FEEL wearing one. If you feel GOOD you look GOOD, nothing more is required.

There are 1000s of styles of bikini the trick it draw attention to where you want.

So if you have GREAT legs look for a bikini that makes them stand out.

Great Boobs - what about a good halterneck bikini

Mix and match can work well too.

You can go for a more 50s style bottom or boy short brief to hold the tummy in if you want.

Or what about board shorts and a stunning bikini top?

What sort of style are you after? Bet we can find one that will make you look and FEEL a million bucks.

GO FOR IT - life if far to short to let any body image make any women hide her self away.

if you were feeling self conscious on the beach those would make oyu stand out like a .. strange 1950s starlet

Instead I would wear some pants like these

I'm off on holiday next weeo and am going to wear a bikini for the first time in about a decade. I'm slim but with a wobbly, stretchmarked, scarred belly. Sod it. So sick of grim swimsuits that dont fit properly (never long enough in the body, always flatten my boobs).

Go for it! Grin

GrassIsSinging · 18/05/2014 15:54

P.s. Got my bikini frm M&S. Pretty dire swimwear selection this year, but the bikini bottoms come up nice and high, so good for the dreaded c-section overhang.

Lweji · 18/05/2014 15:55

You can wear whatever you want. I'd choose a higher waist bottom, but men don't have problems with big or wobbly bellies, why should we?

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 15:55

I love the 1950s style ones but again the issue is it would draw attention to my problem areas.

I can wear a size 10. I'm a healthy BMI (admittedly at the top end of healthy!) but I am flabby Blush not toned or lean at all!

I have wobbly hips and belly. Short legs. My boobs aren't big. I do have slim arms and a prominent collarbone and chest. It's like all my fat is below the waist Blush god I sound so attractive don't i!?

I am face rather than figure honest

I may just wear a sack ... Grin

If you did any of 30 day shred/ripped in 30, 6 week 6 pack dvds from Jillian Michaels from now until then you'd have a flat, toned belly.
I have definition in my belly after 2 weeks back on them.
3 months is time enough to make yourself feel more confident.

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 16:01

I am not sure about that Lizzy Grin

I've ALWAYS had a slightly sticky out tummy, even as a child. Children and pregnancy weight gain/loss has made it look like a mass of porridge Blush

I carry all my weight below my waist too. I didn't wear a bikini for years after having the DC, but a few years ago I thought fuckit - there are women of all shapes and sizes wearing bikinis and still enjoying. themselves.

Totally agree with newnames post. Go for it! Some styles have big pants- would you feel more comfortable in them?

Lweji · 18/05/2014 16:02

Here's a selection of high waist bottoms from Asos

newnameforanewstart · 18/05/2014 16:05

Oh I would kill for your arms!

I bet everyone else wouldnt say the same things if you met them

What about this sort of style?

fifties The briefs are high enough to cover virtually any tummy problem I think the top would look good too if your not particularly gifted in the boob department. Maybe team with a sleevless cover up - show off the arms! Long enough to cover the tops of the thighs if your not massively happy with them. A halterneck would also skim over the prominate collar bones and draw the eyes up to your face.

Get a sandal with a wedge - makes everyone look better in a anything approching a swim suit / bikini

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 16:05

I think big pants might make it look like I've got a big bottom and I haven't in fact - it's still quite peachy! Grin

I don't mind my bum or legs but hips and stomach are Shock

whynowblowwind · 18/05/2014 16:06

I love halter necks :)

Seriously Why, I have had 2 big babies and Jillian Michaels sorts my midriff out. I tend to do spinning/running in winter but when bikini's beckon I turn to Jillian. Fastest way to get toned. I am size 12/14 not 10 by the way.
Give it a go!
Bikini wise I have this and it is brilliant here

beccajoh · 18/05/2014 16:10

I tell you what there will be some far worse sights than you on the beach, that's for certain. I always defer to something Caitlin Moran wrote in one of her books, which was along the lines of "Are you recognisably human shaped and a healthy weight? Then get on with your life and stop worrying."

thenightsky · 18/05/2014 16:10

I got a lovely one last year from debenhams Gorgeous range. The bottoms are a little skirt which detracts from my flabby bits nicely. I got loads of compliments on it.

eurochick · 18/05/2014 16:10

There's a thing going round on FB at the moment:

How to get a bikini body: take bikini; put body in it.

I think this says it all. But if you want to feel confident you could tone up massively between now and September. Get a personal trainer if you can afford it and tell him/her what your goals are. If not, 30 day shred or anything else with resistance work and a focus on your abs should get you there.

newnameforanewstart · 18/05/2014 16:12

Would you consider SHORT, swim shorts or Board shorts teamed with a halterneck bikini top?

I wear board shorts and a bikini top a LOT and some days my body needs a fully pardon but this looks really works well and cover the hips tummy problem but would still show off your peachy butt

Nocomet · 18/05/2014 16:12

That 50's style wide sided top might even get me in a bikini and I never ever wear one. DH got me one when I was a size 12 and I felt a twat in it even then.

Nothing to do with weight, they just feel flimsy, impractical and pointless to someone who likes diving in and water shoots.

FunnyFoot · 18/05/2014 16:13

Wear the bikini OP.

The vast majority of women have bodies that reflect child birth cakes (me included) so you will not look as out of place as you may think. If you are happy to wear on then get on with it. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes yours will be no different from a million other women's body. Grin
