Is there any new and easy method of defuzzing pits?

I always used to shave, but this just seems to trigger infections and lots and lots of red spots that hurt all the time. They go away when I stop shaving.

Hair removal cream smells, and is a faff. Don't fancy waxing. Is there anything else?

How about one of these?

juneybean · 18/05/2014 08:24

I epilate. Hurts so much though !

CompanionCube · 18/05/2014 08:47

I epilate my armpits. It doesn't hurt me much but if you have issues with red spots and infections then it might not work so well for you.

Chocolategirl7 · 18/05/2014 08:52

I've just had IPL on my armpits (groupon voucher) and it has worked a treat. Had three treatments so far and gone from shaving every other day to once a week and the hair is much sparser.

Would highly recommend it ( and it doesn't hurt).

Sleepyhoglet · 18/05/2014 08:56

Ipl?

OuterFromOutersville · 18/05/2014 09:00

Oh, I'd love to have a Philip's Lumea. It's such a lot of money to spend though.

kalidanger · 18/05/2014 09:00

Do you shave your pits dry? Is the razor ooold?

Orangeanddemons · 18/05/2014 10:52

I can't afford one of those things, they look good though. I have very low pain threshold, so not sure I couLd epilate . I wet shave with a new razor. Sometimes I use a new razor for each armpit. It makes no difference, they just come up in red bumps and spots straight away.

Get them waxed? Last ages. Hurts a bit though.

dexter73 · 18/05/2014 10:56

Have you tried an electric razor? Not sure if it would be much different though.

heidipi · 18/05/2014 11:25

Definitely recommend waxing - hurts like mad the first time but not nearly so much after that and the regrowth is really fine and sparse, more wispy than anything. I easily go 4 weeks between waxes without shaving or bothering about it, there's nothing in weeks 1 & 2, then really fine patchy regrowth.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/05/2014 15:06

I agree waxing - but you need to do it right.

Hot wax- it 'opens' the pores.
Use a good exfolliant to remove any dry skin and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.
Look at the direction of the hair growth - on armpits it usually grows in two directions. (on mine the upper part grows upwards, lower part downwards)
Wait till the hairs are long enough to wax
Don't wax just before your period.

Use a dusting of talc. Apply the wax to half your armpit in the direction of growth (so if I'm doing the top part, I apply the wax upwards) put your strip on , rub well, then pull in the opposite direction ( so I'd pull towards the floor)
Make sure you pull the strip as close to your body as you can, don't pull away at 90 degrees.

I can do my pits with one strip now, it's very fine , but if I've gone a bit Yeti like over winter, I do each direction then one over the entire area to catch any strays.

It's probably best to have it done the first time, then you know what to do (and it isn't as bad as you think) Grin

adagio · 18/05/2014 16:33

Another vote for epilator here... Once you have done it a few times you then only need to do it about once a week to catch the sparse regrowth. It hurts less each time too and now I don't feel it at all. Legs however... No bloody chance tried it once and never again Grin

Then use a scrubby glove every day in the shower to get rid of deodorant properly and I assume this also helps to avoid in growing hairs too (well, I never get any).

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/05/2014 16:37

Go and get them waxed, honestly it has changed my life.

Once a month, £12 - I've been having mine done for a year, and the hair is so much lighter and finer than it used to be. No spots, rash or anything else, I love it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/05/2014 18:05

I use the epilator on my legs no trouble adagio just waft it up and down while I'm watching telly Grin

I can't use it on my pits after I was traumatised by a Ladyshave when I was 17 ( though TBF , I think my skin wasn't taut).
I'm terrified of it pinching my skin.

CateBlanket · 18/05/2014 18:25

Do any of you have problems with - for want of a better description - five o'clock shadow in your armpits Blush

thenightsky · 18/05/2014 18:29

I epilate these days. No 5 O'clock shadow.

It did smart a bit for the first couple of times, but now I just whisk it over once a week in summer and once a fortnight in winter and the hair is much finer than before.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/05/2014 23:31

Cate - used to, waxing is the way to go, or epilating will do the same thing.

Orangeanddemons · 19/05/2014 15:02

What about those leg mitt things would they work in armpits?

OP posts:
heidipi · 19/05/2014 15:53

Don't those mits just rub/file the hair off? I bet that hurts. Seriously, waxing takes less than a minute each side, no stubble, no shadow.

thesaurusgirl · 19/05/2014 16:59

Soprano laser. Doesn't hurt (very occasionally stings, does tickle a bit). I've gone from shaving every other day to not remembering when I last had to. Not cheap, alas. Had mine done at the Courthouse Clinic in Wimpole Street. If I could afford it I'd be zapped all over.

CurlsLDN · 19/05/2014 17:23

I wet shave with a bit of antibacterial handwash, no rash! But I do get a rash if I use regular shower gel

Orangeanddemons · 19/05/2014 20:22

Antibacterial sounds promising

JenniMoo · 19/05/2014 21:26

Sorry to h

JenniMoo · 19/05/2014 21:26

Hijack but do you have to let the hair grow quite long for waxing?
