If you have really pale skin, how do you do bare legs?

I want to get my legs out with summer dresses and skirts (before I'm too old) but am so put off by how white and blotchy I look. They almost look patchy bluish / purplish, as you can see the veins etc....

I've heard stockings, but really with a sun dress and sandals that doesn't work. Make up as well, but won't that sweat off and leave marks everywhere?

So what works to make you feel more confident at leaving the house with bare legs?

yy Sally Hansen airbrush legs. Nothing shifts it, and it doesnt look like orange fake tan; more like wearing vey thin tights without wearing tights. It takes a bit of practice to put on, but I can do it on the hop now. Remember to exfoliate first, and moisturise kneees a bit.
Thank You Sally Hansen. You have changed my life.

MyrtleDove · 17/05/2014 11:52

OneLittleLady I have muscular legs and just get them out. Nobody else will care and muscular legs are great. The idea that everyone has to be 'dainty' is nonsense.

Catsmamma · 17/05/2014 11:59

I think it's like hair....as long as it/they are in good condition the colour and style matters not a jot

so for legs, exfoliate and moisturise (and defuzz if you wish), remember the tops of your feet and ankle bones too....so no shiny brittle looking shins and elephant wrinkle ankles!!

And pale skin is way nicer than fake tan, I don't care how good you think you are at applying it, everyone knows!! ;)

MewlingQuim · 17/05/2014 12:03

Just get them out, wear longer skirts if you are feeling really self conscious.

Fake tan on naturally very pale skin just looks orange and hideous.

SuperFlyHigh · 17/05/2014 12:05

My legs aren't as bad but I just embrace them with the sun until they start to tan.

If I'm off out anywhere I use stockings/tights.

TheHoundsBitch · 17/05/2014 12:10

What does 'getting your veins dealt with' entail?

starfishmummy · 17/05/2014 12:14

Mine are just "au naturel" and very white. I do shave them though!!

I don't use fake tan after a disaster a few years ago...and even the Johnson holiday skin stuff goes blotchy on me!!

DotToDott · 17/05/2014 12:18

I find that as long as my legs are smooth and hair-free i feel fine getting them out.

i usually wear something just above the knee- skirts not shorts and let the sun do it's work on the colour.

i don't know how people can be arsed with fake tan, i've never tried it but it all seems to be a big mess for short-lived and sometimes awful looking results.

MyrtleDove · 17/05/2014 12:19

I am a bit puzzled by the vein thing - you can see veins underneath my skin on my legs but they're not thread veins or varicose veins, just normal ones you can see because of the transparency of my skin. I can't get rid of all the veins in my legs surely Confused

SirChenjin · 17/05/2014 12:24

They do in Paris I believe. They just remove their hearts, and thus there is no need for veins of any form Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/05/2014 12:28

Au naturel colour-wise here, which means very pale, I do shave and try and remember to moisturise though otherwise they look dry and dusty.

TheCowThatLaughs · 17/05/2014 12:34

If I'm wearing a dress, I just wear leggings under it Smile

LadySybilLikesCake · 17/05/2014 12:42

I've been looking for a decent (and not too expensive) pair of leggings. Where did you get yours from, TheCow? Smile

Stars66 · 17/05/2014 12:56

The look of badly applied fake tan is far worse than two white legs. Personally, mine are out and I couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks!!

TheCowThatLaughs · 17/05/2014 13:01

LadySybil, I got them from tesco (glamorous or what?) I think it was a 2 pack for £6. Was last year though. I wouldn't necessarily say they were decent, but they do the job.

Toothytwo · 17/05/2014 13:10

I don't care about the paleness but my problem most of the year is the massive bruises I seem to regularly get, clumsy.

Coumarin · 17/05/2014 13:18

My legs are so pale that they reflect light and can be actually dazzling in direct sunlight. Grin After trying every single fake tan, leg make up and gradually tanning moisturiser there is, I've finally accepted my skin.

It's evenly coloured, smooth and soft. If the fact it is the colour of snow offends people then they know what they can do fuck off look elsewhere.

ScentedNappyHag · 17/05/2014 13:23

I just get 'em out Grin the rest of me is pale too, so it'd look strange if my legs were tanned! Embracing my pale was one of the best things I've ever done self confidence wise- I can wear so much more now I've stopped seeing it as a negative.

ScentedNappyHag · 17/05/2014 13:26

Also, for those of you that don't go bare legged because of the dreaded chub rub, roll on deodorant on the inner thighs stops the painful rubbing Smile changed me chubby life, it did!

LadySybilLikesCake · 17/05/2014 13:34

'Do the job' works for me as long as they don't go saggy after one wear.

Pandsbear · 17/05/2014 13:49

I just get them out, pale with visible veins (and the odd bruise if I have one). I don't wear above the knee skirts anyway so there is only the lower half of my legs on show and I am too old to care what anyone thinks about my pale legs!

TheCowThatLaughs · 17/05/2014 13:51

Just stood up to check, had them on yesterday too (slattern) and they're not saggy. They have got lycra in, unlike some sainsburys ones I had that were crap!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 17/05/2014 13:58

bonsoir how does one 'deal with' veins - I have visible veins on my legs and wrists as far as I know I need them for the circulation of blood so ????

I am bvu to be pale and veiny obviously Sad

I still get my legs out now and then though they inevitably get freckly which is probably even worse than veins!! I am with you op be brave Smile

capsium · 17/05/2014 14:00

No fake tan. Pale legs match the rest of me. Skirts knee length or longer, ditto cut offs. To stop thighs chafing in hot weather I wear a divided slip. Here,

LadySybilLikesCake · 17/05/2014 14:01

Grin I may pop to Tesco at some point.

It's not wise to do anything surgical to get rid of broken capillaries veins/lumpy ones I don't think, Blood circulation and all of that.
