This is a place for lovely pear shapes to share purchases and discuss clothes that fit and flatter our beautiful bodies. Smile

Why doesn't someone open a Pear Clothes Shop? Across the road from the Apple Clothes Shop? They can have my idea for free, as long as they do it somewhere near me so I can shop there.

HermioneWeasley · 25/05/2014 22:03

I don't know Purply. The success of the Levi's curve range shows there's a definite market!

PurplyBlue · 25/05/2014 22:11

It would serve an educational purpose, as well as save people loads of money on unsuitable clothes.

plasticbanana · 26/05/2014 08:40

That is such a great idea Purply. England is full of pears struggling to find clothes that fit. Or, maybe, larger shops could have ranges for us. I've seen plenty of 'tall' ranges or 'petite' ranges or whatever, how about a 'pear' range?
Evelyn your link didn't work for me. Should I just search for 'prom dress'?

I am 5'3", short and chunky legs. Size 8 on top, narrow shoulders, small bust. Size 10 on bottom with bit of tummy and heavy thighs/hips. Sorry for asking a very elementary question but what length trousers / skirts work better for pears?

evelynj · 26/05/2014 21:23

Purple, I've been thinking about that too-pears are the most common shape too. I'm thinking though that until I lose quite a bit more weight, I'm maybe more comfortable dressing as an apple as I'm large chested & tucked in & belts feel a bit exposed. The typical pear rules I find difficult - most of my tops end at hip level.

Am I a lost cause?!!

PurplyBlue · 27/05/2014 18:52

ShoutyMom - I'm no fashion expert, but I reckon skirts just on knee length work best. Any higher and I flash the thigh cellulite, any lower and it accentuates my wide calves. Or I sometimes go for just above ankle to obliterate the lot!

A-line is a must.

Avoid cropped trousers. In winter, either leggings or skinny tucked into chunky boots, and in summer I find boot-cut or wide-ish straights with chunky sandals / flip flops make the best of a bad job.

PurplyBlue · 27/05/2014 18:56

evelyn - I don't have a large bust but definitely find that carrying extra weight makes dressing as a pear much harder. My saving grace used to be my nice flat tummy, but no more!

Are you a definite pear, with wide hips and heavy thighs? Just that I've noticed that some people with larger busts and wider hips have comparatively narrow thighs which gives you more options.

evelynj · 28/05/2014 16:18

Thanks purply-defo a pear-hips & thighs are big but at size 14-16 tucking in is ok or nearly ok but at 18-20, just awful. Think I'll learn best practice while losing weight over the next few months. Flatter tummy defo helps!

Plastic banana has kindly directed me and my pear shaped bod over here. Hello fellow pears Smile

Justinepants · 30/05/2014 00:12

Hello Impatient. Smile

Floisme · 30/05/2014 11:47

I think one difficulty is that, even as pears, we're different shapes so we don't all suit the same things. I consider myself a pear as I have heavy-ish thighs and short legs but my hips and arse aren't bad. A lines are supposed to be the best style for us but I think some of them make me look quite chunky and I often prefer a tube or pencil shape - provided it's just below the knee (above the knee looks shocking).

Impatientismymiddlename · 30/05/2014 12:06

You are probably right floisme because you suit below the knee length skirts but anything below the knee on me makes me look like I am dressing in the style of somebody about 95 years old. I love some of the A-line midi skirts but they just look dreadful on me.

I have a real problem buying jeans because they always gape at the waist. I can get away with some jeans from gap but I don't find them to be the most comfortable. What jeans do other pears wear and find comfortable?

Floisme · 30/05/2014 12:13

Impatient it has to be immediately below the knee. I've been trying on midi skirts too and I agree that calf length looks awful.

Where to start with jeans.... ? I've pretty much given up to be honest!

Impatientismymiddlename · 30/05/2014 12:49

I wanted this

Impatientismymiddlename · 30/05/2014 12:49

O

Impatientismymiddlename · 30/05/2014 12:51

Note to self: do not attempt to post from phone as the above happens^

I tried this and lived it on the hanger but it just looked awful on me even though it isn't that long. I looked like my granny. Other women seem to look so nice and elegant in this length.

Floisme · 30/05/2014 13:17

I've got one a bit like this although not as full or as long and I love it:
www.hm.com/gb/product/26757?article=26757-A

I'm not quite sure why some look great while others look frumpy but I think it's to do with getting the right amount of fullness. If it's not full enough, it clings around your thighs and looks droopy but too much and you're in cartoon territory.

Lovelybunchofcocopops · 31/05/2014 19:37

Anyone got/seen any flattering (!) bikinis or swimsuits for us pears? All suggestions welcome....
