What can I use on my face to make it look less red?

Reastie · 04/05/2014 19:32

Whatever I do I look like I've just finished a workout - red hot looking face. I use foundation and powder but still it doesn't lose it's over- red look. It's especially bad on my cheeks (I often look like I'm badly blushing). I have very sensitive skin and I'm not very good with make up/reapplying etc. Can anyone recommend anything which might work? I have no idea where to start or what to get Thanks

Do you have rosacea? If that's how you spell it?!

morethanpotatoprints · 04/05/2014 19:36

Yes, but unfortunately can't remember what it was called.
It was a green cream in a small green bottle and my dh used to use it for rosea (spel).
I seem to remember it being in the no7 range but not 100%, will see if I can find it and get back to you.
It truly was amazing.

La Roche Posay do an anti-redness range. It's called Rosaliac - I use this moisturiser, here. It's tinted green to help reduce redness and I find it really soothing. There are a few other anti-redness products suitable for skin prone to redness or rosacea here.

Raskova · 04/05/2014 19:45

I believe aloe Vera gel cream or their propolis cream is really good for this?

Raskova · 04/05/2014 19:46

By their I mean forever living products

FairPhyllis · 04/05/2014 19:49

There are various primers with a green tint that cancel out redness, and of course they help make up stay on longer too.

La Roche Posay worth checking out.

You might have rosacea. Have you ever seen a doctor about it?

morethanpotatoprints · 04/05/2014 19:49

bloomingheather

That's the one, the name was familiar when I looked on the site just now, but it didn't say it was tinted green. This must be the same cream repackaged, all these years later Grin
OP, my dh swore by it and has quite a high profile career, it used to get him down until he found this cream.
You must try it.

Lagoonablue · 04/05/2014 19:52

Boots used to do a colour corrective moisturiser which was green. They may still do it.

tigerdriverII · 04/05/2014 19:55

Clinique have an anti redness foundation and other products. I use the foundation sometimes , it's quite thick but does tone down redness a bit. Worth finding a Clinique counter to try it out?

mrssmith79 · 04/05/2014 19:56

L'oreal CC cream (the green one) is great and not at all harsh on my dry, sensitive skin.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/05/2014 20:19

I found the Loreal cc orange which is a shame. Went on fine then half an hour later looked like an extra from towie!

Revlon colour stay foundation is fantastic. I also use bare minerals bisque concealer. Bare minerals or Lilly lolo foundation its excellent too.

DrewsWife · 04/05/2014 20:23

I use veil cover cream. It's brilliant. Masks it all and you can even swim whilst wearing it. You can get it on prescription too.

JustSquirted · 04/05/2014 20:26

I second the Clinique range.

Reastie · 05/05/2014 06:43

Sorry to post and dash there. I don't think I have rodesca (or however you spell) but am now off to Google. I imagine it being one of those things I notice and think it's really obvious but people don't notice as much as I do iykwim. Now you mention green stuff I remember having something like that from the body shop when I was a teenager. Will look into the things recommended here [Thanks]

Hmm, reading about rosacea I think I might have this, I always just thought I had a red face that flared up easily!

Avene do a green tinted moisturiser. Great for sensitive skin and doesn't just cover but minimises the redness too.

kelda · 05/05/2014 09:11

I have just started using a cream called Mirvaso, from the doctor, to combat the redness caused by rosecea.

I had to pay 50 euros for a small tube but I think you can get it on the NHS.

I don't use make up because of sensitive skin.

Cereal0ffender · 05/05/2014 09:16

Diet can have a big effect on redness, spicy foods alcohol esp red wine too much sugar, caffeine. I went tee total and cut the above out of my diet years ago, it made a huge difference. The spicy food esp. I am back on all of the above but do try and moderate it and notice the difference in my skin if I over do booze or hot food.

kelda · 05/05/2014 09:18

yes, keep out of the sun, avoid alcohol and hot drinks. spicy foods.

The cream mirvaso does seem to work - it makes my nose feel very cold - but if I am sitting in the sun, drinking wine, then I will still go very red.

SauvignonBlanche · 05/05/2014 11:47

This range is fab! I swear by the yellow powder for calming redness.

Morrigu · 05/05/2014 12:24

Sounds very like rosacea to me. I have it and found the antibiotics and cream from the gp really no help at all (I do a lot of running and it's triggered by exercise but there's no way I'm stopping). Have started using La Roche Posey sunblock on my face, mine is also triggered by sun but the sunblock has a tint in it so the redness isn't as noticeable. Sounds strange but I use sudocreme as a base for my foundation and it evens out the redness and my foundation actually lasts. Might ask my doc about mirvaso myself.

Reastie · 05/05/2014 12:41

Oh Morrigu I've used sudocream on my face before and I just sweated massively underneath it, which made the redness worse Confused

I already am tee total, avoid spicy foods, don't drink tea or coffee, and try to stay in the shade...

I have rosacea and, like you, didn't realise for ages that that was what was causing the redness! It can look like acne or just blushing/ flushing, so it isn't always easy to self-diagnose.

Even if it isn't rosacea, I would advise you to treat the redness rather than just masking it with green tinted products. You need to start with checking that your entire skin care routine, especially the cleanser and, if you use one, the toner, aren't exacerbating things. Things like Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish are supposed to be okay for rosacea / red skin, but contain eucalyptus which stimulates circulation! Ethyl alcohol and many other types of alcohol are in lots of high end products but should be avoided if you have redness.

I was prescribed Rosex by my GP, and it did work but I've gone as natural as possible and now I just use Pai cleanser, dry/sensitive toner and their redness reducing chamomile moisturiser which are all designed for rosacea and other types of sensitive skin. They calm my skin right down and really do work. I can then get away with using my regular foundation etc.

Here are some links to their rosacea products. They do a trial kit so you can try it before splashing out. They also let you use any products for 30 days and you can return them post free for a refund if you don't feel your skin has improved. I don't work for them in any way, btw, I'm just grateful that skincare exists that I can use without getting redder!

Also, this is a great foundation for sensitive skin: it's an organic mineral foundation by Inika, but it's a liquid not a powder unlike most mineral makeup. You can get samples for £1. They also do blusher, concealer etc, although I haven't tried those.

I have nose rosacea and use the Clinique anti redness range - marvellous stuff. Expensive but lasts ages.
