Sick of eyelash curlers, NOT curling my eyelashes. Recommendations please.

Just that really...

I have Tweezerman ones atm and they're ok I guess, but I have to squeeze them on to my eyelashes about 3 times before the curl actually holds and it's just bloody annoying! Even then it doesn't hold all day. Am I doing something wrong?

Doesn't make a difference what mascara I use either. Tbf to eyelash curlers, I do have awkward eyelashes. They naturally point downwards and are different lengths, but it would be great to find a pair of curlers that I don't need to keep using throughout the day.

I know there are bigger things to worry about Grin but would be great to get a good recommendation.

Thanks ladies Smile

Primark - they were a quid and the best I have ever used!

WowOoo · 29/04/2014 12:28

My sister swears by Shu Uemura ones.

figgypuddings · 29/04/2014 12:29

I think you can have eyelashes permed - they use tiny little proper curlers.

DuchessFanny · 29/04/2014 12:31

Shu Uemera are the only ones that have worked for me. I'm also quick with the mascara, so that it 'holds' iyswim ?

VipereauPied · 29/04/2014 12:49

I have the Carmen heated ones, they are really effective and the curl lasts for days. I rarely use mine but I might go and dig them out now. I read that the Shu Uemura ones are designed for oriental eyes so can be tricky to use if your eyes are not that shape.

Flippin eck I have just googled the Carmen ones - they seem to have been discontinued and now sell for £30 upwards on ebay (used - yuk)

SirChenjin · 29/04/2014 12:51

Heated eyelash curlers - the only things that work on my long, straight lashes. I got my last pair on ebay for around a fiver - get the 'wand' type as opposed to the ones that look like big plastic regular eyelash curlers.

breakingtradition · 29/04/2014 13:39

Thanks Smile

Dame, Primark? Really?! Do you have reasonably well behaved eyelashes already though? Grin

wow and Duchess, I keep meaning to buy some of those, but always get put off by the price tag. Are they really as good as they say?

Figgy, ta, I might have a look into that.

viper and sir, I did actually have the wand style heated ones when I was a teenager, but the curl was a bit too ott for me. I was probably just holding it on for too long though. Also, I was a bit concerned about damaging my lashes with the heat.

Yes, if you start off towards the base of the lashes and then kind of move up and back then the curl isn't so extreme...although mine are so straight that takes a lot to curl them! I don't think you can damage with the heat, they don't really get dangerously hot Smile

Aylish1993 · 29/04/2014 16:27

Warm them up with the hair dryer first before you use them just be careful they don't get to hot :)

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 29/04/2014 16:31

Warm them with the hIr dryer first. I also put a later if mascara on beforehand, let it dry, warm with the hair dryer and curl. Then more mascara

I've heard horror stories about it ripping your eyelashes out but think that's only an issue if you let the mascara resolidify on the eyelash curlers. I'm quick and have never had a problem in the last 20 years I've been doing it

I've had every eyelash curler known to man and agree that the cheapest are the best

singaporeswing · 30/04/2014 04:54

Shu Uemura are amazing.

I tend to stick mine under my arm to slowly warm up as I apply concealer, base, eyebrows etc.

Having them heated up makes the curl last longer, but it's still body temperature so you don't have to worry about burning your eyelids or damaging your eyelashes.

Tiggywinklespinny · 30/04/2014 06:13

Try giving LVL lashes a go, they perm and tint your lashes, mine lasted about 4.5 weeks, only put mascara on towards the 4th weeks and when I wanted extra 'drama' Grin

Cost me £24 and I'm hooked, love waking up and looking half decent for a change!

Wishfulmakeupping · 30/04/2014 06:37

Exactly what Gobbo said :)

MooMinCow · 30/04/2014 07:39

Second the LVL lash lift (though I don't get it done regularly as I did lose a few lashes after treatment but good if you have an occasion full month ahead)

Also try applying a thin coat of waterproof mascara (any old cheap one) immediately after curling. You can apply your regular mascara after, the wp one just holds a curl better as its not water based.

breakingtradition · 30/04/2014 11:30

Well I was very interested in the LVL treatment, but after hearing that it's common to lose some lashes, I don't think I'll risk it. My eyelashes are sparse enough as it is.

I think I'll just have to loosen the purse strings a bit and finally get some of the Shu Uemura curlers.

Oh, just been on the hunt for a pair, but there are loads of different ones. Which are the best?

I'd like to know too. The price has always put me off but my old faithful ones aren't great tbh so think it's time I upgraded.

DillydollyRIP · 02/05/2014 13:50

I use heated ones too. Mine are revlon ones.

MooMinCow · 02/05/2014 13:56

Japonesque are a good alternative to Shu ones (I read somewhere that Japonesque make tools and brushes for all the big brands).

I think you need to look at the shape of your eyes to get the right pair/fit. European ones tend to have a more rounded curve than the Japanese brands. Or get a mini curler?

Icelollycraving · 02/05/2014 14:37

I've used lots & my absolute favourite are the Kevyn Aucoin ones. They have a much bigger opening to clamp your lashes than others.

Deathraystare · 04/05/2014 08:22

Shu ones are good. I know they are exoensive, but most don't work on me. Also if you use waterproof mascara it holds the curl better. Either use only waterproof mascara or use it as a base for your fave non wp one.

Apatite1 · 04/05/2014 09:09

I use the Kevyn aucoin ones too

Only1scoop · 04/05/2014 09:12

She Uemuru....you'll never need another pairSmile

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 04/05/2014 09:14

Shu Umera.
