I have stained my toenails blue ! Help !

Yes, yes, I should have used a base coat. No, I was lazy and I didn't.

I used a lovely teal nail varnish on my toes but on taking it off my toenails are stained a horrid bluey green. Any tips anyone (before the season for toe baring really gets underway...)

Get yourself some base coat, then paint them again. Repeat until the stain has grown out.

(I did this last year. Had blue toenails for the whole summer.)

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 10:42

I have to wait until it grows out ? < sob >

I want to wear pretty pastel colours for summer and they are ruined

Scrub with an actual (cut in half) lemon? Supposed to make nails brighter and whiter?

Neena28 · 27/04/2014 10:46

Or scrub with some whitening toothpaste? Or scrub with an old toothbrush and some mild bleach? Can't see it would harm them but prob worth using some oil and foot cream afterwards to give them some moisture back

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 27/04/2014 10:47

Opaque pastel colours should still cover it as long as you get good quality ones. Just keep them painted until it grows out.

That reminds me, I'm going to do mine now.

Catsmamma · 27/04/2014 10:47

buff it off? that should lessen it.

Nocomet · 27/04/2014 10:49

Just use a good opaque white as base coat under more translucent pastels.

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 27/04/2014 10:50

Also, I think you should get this thread deleted, because how can the cheating, EA, cocklodging, skiving tossers of this world quake in fear at your name if you are seen to be upset by your inability to wear pastel toenail varnish? Grin

Neena28 · 27/04/2014 10:51

Imathrillseekerbunny that's brilliant!

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 10:52

I am assuming those types of individuals never venture into S+B, Bunny Grin

Although it might utterly confuse them to see a staunch feminist that likes nail varnish ?

I am gonna try the old toothbrush and bleach < hard as nails >

Pass it off as a medical condition, blue toenails can indicate cyanosis.

gertiegusset · 27/04/2014 10:56

Won't bleach make them flaky?

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 10:59

Noooo, gertie Grin

Bunny Grin

Bleach on a cotton bud to get into the crevices too.

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 10:59

Better flaky than greeny-blue !

Neena28 · 27/04/2014 10:59

I've turned my fingernails odd colours a few times and bleach hasn't entirely removed it nor has lemon but it's faded it a bit. Hasn't made them flaky as have rinsed carefully and added plenty of moisture. Wouldn't do it daily tho!

Neena28 · 27/04/2014 11:00

I realise that makes me sound a bit odd in hindsight. Work related I promise!

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 11:01

Not odd, Neena Smile

photo or it never happenedWink

  • cut toes off?
  • dip them in bleach?
  • start a support group with HoneyDragon?
Grin

I have no idea, but I'm here to hold your hands.
oops, toes

ZingWatermelon · 27/04/2014 11:07

gertie

Grin @ pass it off as cyanosis!

Some good suggestions here for removing staining.

I think the denture tablets and then using a nail buffer sounds the best. Denture tablets do a fab job of removing tea stains on mugs, so surely got to work on nails!

Failing that, I would paint a clear base coat, then a coat (or two) of pale pink to bring your nails back to 'normal' colour and then paint your lovely pastel colour over the top. A bit long-winded but would mean you could wear your pretty colours.

I feel your pain, I have also done this before, but luckily in the winter when it didn't matter!

Meglet · 27/04/2014 11:33

If it's any consolation I did the same thing even with a base coat. I think it was because it all got mixed up when I took the polish off and the blue pigment stuck to my nails.

AnyFucker · 27/04/2014 11:37

I can report back

I couldn't find an old toothbrush so just scrubbed hard with neat bleach and cotton wool balls, then rinsed well and moisturized

They look much better and should be ok with a base coat. Let's hope my toes don't fall off as a result Smile
