or if you reckon I could make it more interesting with accessories?
e.g. bright red shoes?
does anyone have any suggestions pretty please?

Go to Cos, lovely dresses. I just spent an hour trying 10 on and found it hard to choose.

NigellasGuest · 26/04/2014 19:05

please give me feedback on this one and tell me what you would wear on your legs!!

Not sure about the fabric - would have to see it in the flesh. Also it's way too short for me (5'8")

NigellasGuest · 26/04/2014 19:12

the dress code for the do is "glamour/trash"
Hmm

How about this?

burnishedsilver · 26/04/2014 19:14

Sorry, crossed posts. My link isnt suitable.

Fairylea · 26/04/2014 19:15

I really like some of the clothes on Dorothy perkins at the moment, and river island and also asos - granted many of the dresses are uber short but the midi length is also quite fashionable at the moment so there are some of those about. If you search "midi dress" and "midi skirt" on asos as well you will find some ideas too.

Toast has some interesting dresses. A little more expensive but still under £300 :)

Seasalt new spring collection has a couple of very pretty dresses. Admittedly more cotton and summery but really nice and reasonably priced.

I would also look at larger department stores online like Debenhams and House of Fraser. May be some special offers to browse through.

AnyFucker · 26/04/2014 19:15

that is awful sorry

dingit · 26/04/2014 19:17

I was in Apricot yesterday. Gorgeous dresses.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 26/04/2014 19:19

It is very nigellaesque and look at the reviews!

tethersend · 26/04/2014 19:20

I love that Cos one, I almost linked to it. Perfect for glamour/trash- I'd wear it with red stilettos.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 26/04/2014 19:22

Does it absolutely have to be black and long sleeved? If so it needs to be a lot more precise in cut and more deliberate in fabric.

If you can find a really good dress you shouldn't need lots of accessories and frippery.

tethersend · 26/04/2014 19:23

Like this

tethersend · 26/04/2014 19:24

Well, these but on a smaller budget Wink

burnishedsilver · 26/04/2014 19:30

I like the COS dress and would love the expensive red shoes with it. these shoes would also work

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2014 19:48

Love that Pied a Terre one - gorgeous colour.

This could look amazing on somebody flat chested. It's incredible irl - like architecture! Grin

This is gorgeous too

NigellasGuest · 26/04/2014 19:51

absolutely has to be at least three quarter length sleeved - not happy with the old upper arms at the moment as I'm half to 3/4 of a stone overweight atm...
I'm a bit sold on that Cos dress I must say...
I'm liking the red shoes idea, but do they absolutely have to be stilletos? is there anything out there shoe-wise that's more "edgey"? I don't want to take the glamour/trash thing too literally because it will be another 10 years before I get further use out of anything bought for that kind of dress code!!
BTW DD2 has suggested that Cos dress with purple tights... not too sure about that one. She is only 15 though!

OP posts:
tethersend · 26/04/2014 20:11

No, I'll not be swayed Grin I'd do nude tights or bare legs and red stilettos.

More edgy? I'll have a look. Please don't do purple tights.

burnishedsilver · 26/04/2014 20:17

More edgy if you have great legs.

tethersend · 26/04/2014 20:17

Open toes any good?

these or these?

burnishedsilver · 26/04/2014 20:19

I still think I'd prefer this though, with a nude tight or a bare leg.

Saurus72 · 26/04/2014 20:21

I do like that Cos dress - this one is similar, but might drape better as it's silk www.cosstores.com/gb/Shop/Women/Dresses/Silk_dress_with_tie-back/46881-14849489.1#c-24479

With these maybe www.stories.com/gb/Shoes/All_shoes/Heel_detail_pumps/590763-2256960.1

And this bag possibly www.stories.com/gb/Bags/All_bags/Mini_leather_shoulder_bag/590765-1522735.1

Enabler

tethersend · 26/04/2014 20:25

I'd do a gold or a leopardprint clutch for that touch of trash Grin

Saurus72 · 26/04/2014 20:29

Good point re: trashy bag. Maybe New Look for stuff like that?
