Urgent help needed. Can't wear totally flat shoes. What to buy?

I dug out my summer shoes two weeks ago and have now pulled a calf muscle.

Sandals are out due to the distances.

What can I buy that's good for lots (and lots) of walking that is not flat?
I've got tons of pumps and canvas stuff but they are flat :(
Ideally I would need a small heel or some awesome trainers.

Bump as I'm interested in the answers

Hoppinggreen · 25/04/2014 21:50

I've got some Crocs trainers and they have quite a thick sole so not totally flat.
Crocs do all sorts of nice shoes other than those hideous clogs, have a look at their website

Lambstales · 25/04/2014 21:59

I will have a look but Crocs, really?

nike air max

libertytrainers · 25/04/2014 22:05

i also have some pretty nice superdry trainers that have a slight lift at the heel (hidden)

shelldockley · 25/04/2014 22:09

Is this for a holiday? Birkenstocks. So comfy, they're not flat flat because they have support, which I assume is what you need?

thepurplepenguin · 25/04/2014 22:09

I got these recently, they are very comfy and have a small heel

Oh bugger

Bunbaker · 25/04/2014 22:11

Sketchers Go Walk. The most comfortable footwear I have ever had the pleasure to wear. It is like walking on cushions.

thepurplepenguin · 25/04/2014 22:11

New Balance 574s in turquoise and yellow, they are £39.99 in the Office sale

Lambstales · 25/04/2014 22:15

I don't need any lift, I need cushioning or a little heel.

Trainers would be my last resort unless you tell me they are great with a dress or formal trousers

BUT trainers are what I need atm for my recovery.

Bunbaker where do I start? I'm useless at shopping. They look okay.

I think Blinners on the workwear thread says Banana Republic do memory sole insoles in their ballet flats. Maybe Jones too. Sounds great.

Bunbaker · 25/04/2014 22:41

I think with shoes you have to try them on. Sketchers come up big and although I usually wear a size 6 I have a pair of size 5 Go Walk.

Our local shopping centre has a Sketchers shop, but Barratts also sell them. Otherwise just google and see who sells them locally to you.

Percephone · 25/04/2014 22:49

The Sketchers Go Walk are definitely very spongy and comfy. Not sure how they would look with a dress though if thats what you want to wear. I know you said sandals are no good but have you tried any proper walking sandals? Some of the Merrell sandals look reasonable.

Lambstales · 25/04/2014 22:50

Thanks for the tip on the sizing for Sketchers.

Shoe Therapy ballet pumps have a slight heel, are supportive and very comfortable. I also have Skechers Go Walk which are really comfortable as well.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 26/04/2014 00:18

these skechers flats are next on my list. They are a cross between a ballerina & trainers, sounds hideous but have a very well supported sole.

Banana Republic do have lots of cushioning. As do Sam Edelman (Adenas look awesome), and some Jones the Bootmaker. Oasis also do low wedges in suede for £35. M&S Autograph have cushioning (Insolia) and they do some pointed shoes w a low heel. Good luck!

Bunbaker · 26/04/2014 08:40

If Sketchers could make their shoes a little more stylish looking they would clean up the market. I agree that they aren't pretty, but the comfort factor is amazing and they are my shoe of choice for walking in during the summer, especially when exploring on holiday.

Bunbaker · 26/04/2014 08:43

Sketchers sandals

I just can't decide at the moment and to make things worse I got an unsolicited catalogue from 'Hotter' this morning.
Some of the Hotter shoes/trainers look comfy. It also came with 20% off voucher/code for first order.

Percephone I already have walking sandals and 'sandal' sandals, both are ruled out as I need toe covering footwear (feel the cold).

Dark trainers like the Hotter ones might work for everything but the dress.

If the calf problem hadn't occurred I would have happily worn the same as two years ago.

I have got Alegria Paloma shoes..they are the most cushioned supportive shoes ever, although some might find them fugly.

I have degenerating discs in spine but can do a lot of walking in these.

It's hard to get them here but I get them from USA, usually on ebay, for about £80
