Well someone had to do it....

Ah, but Herbs, they do occasionally entertain each other (in between squabbles) and let you get on with things.

QQ - that tea sounds very nice indeed. I have had mixed success with "gourmet" teas. I have some Vanilla Chai Redbush in the cupboard, and even the smell of the box makes me heave.

NU - in my breadmaking days (which have fallen victim to my low carb ways) I used to add a teaspoonful of malt extract to each loaf. It is like the stickiest of sticky honeys but smells heavenly.

Eurovision tomorrow, crepeys! I'm not ashamed to admit that I've printed some cheesy score sheets from the Internet, and DH and I will be avidly watching. I missed the semifinals but apparently Austria had a bearded drag artist and the Russians were booed. Fabulous.

Thanks - so where do I buy malt extract? Is it an Irish diaspora thing or will they have it in local Sainsbury?

My ds2 is Eurovision mad. He gets very cross about people referring to the Austrian entrant as a bearded lady (and rightly so).

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 20:40

Ah. Would it go something like:

Start off their day with a healthy A breakfast and smart price milk. Give them special offer raisins for a snack at about 9am before leaving for a lovely walk to the Park in their Prince George Trainers with their Smart Price Racquet set. Pack some thirst quenching drinks and come home for a lovely lunch. Smart Price Mayo sandwiches and special offer apples and donuts.

During the afternoon you can sit and relax with a friend in the Green Plastic Garden furniture while (should that be whilst) they bounce on the special offer trampoline................................................

Can that be done, probably more imaginatively, for the entire holidays?

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 20:45

On a more serious note, a 3.5 year age gap worked well! No competition.

Stropperella · 09/05/2014 21:05

Grin @ Windy - such a cynic...

OPM, I get my malt extract from Tesco, or from the health food shop.

originalpiratematerial · 09/05/2014 21:05

The "boys are like dogs" thing always worked well for mine (still does really). Get them out of the house early doors, run them until they are tired, take them home, feed them.

Stropperella · 09/05/2014 21:07

Hmm, I still found there was plenty of competition with a 6.5 year age gap. Depends on the dynamics, I guess.

CremolaDItalia · 09/05/2014 21:18

NU I was indeed out at the roadside watching the giro TTT. It was exhilarating -such speed and excitement. The sun even came out and we sat drinking pink giro wine along the route.
Poor Danny martins shoulder is broken by all accounts. So disappointing for him and his team.

We have had a brilliant day! I have a rose wine glow. I am marshalling the route tomorrow so ill wave if a camera comes by!!!Grin

I can only suggest summer schemes( organised fun-boak) or being dispatched for extended periods to pen friends abroad ( this was my mothers solution) sorry MI.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 09/05/2014 21:29

I grew up near the Thames. We used to spend all day there, swimming, without adult supervision from a very young age (around 7). We had no sunscreen and no drinks. Occasionally someone's mother might wander down mid afternoon with tupperware beakers full of weak squash and some marmite sandwiches. Otherwise we went home when we were hungry or it was getting dark. I'm an only child, but a couple of my cousins used to spend a large chunk of the summer holiday with us. We used to swim over to the island, because someone had tied a rope to the tree, and swing out over the river and drop in. (We were expressly told not to do this, and not to go out of our depth either.)

When we lived near MK, we used to walk across the fields to the river and the DDs used to paddle and splash around in it (it was no deeper than their knees) while I sat there with a book or picked blackberries.

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 21:35

We used to have a little iron ladder down to the Thames but it was the bit where you had to be totally nuts or called Trenton Oldfield to swim in it. Now that was a day! We let the children climb up and down a few times at low tide but was always a bit dodgy. I once threatened to arrive at a Mnet meetup in a rigid inflatable Grin

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 21:37

I actually massively miss living on the river. Sad. Twas a huge upheaval, almost too huge. Still, there are more leaves in zone 3 and a far far smaller garden - grrrrrrrr.

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 22:14

I am at my heaviest at the moment. I have a quasi evening do next Friday but not quite cocktaily. I am stumped. I bought this a few months ago and it is pressing at the seams. I CANNOT wear it.www.jaeger.co.uk/Circle%20Trim%20Dress/630073H,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_630073H_color=00100&dwvar_630073H_size=8&start=59&cgid=women-dresses

I need something kindly to tum and bum. Is this just too frumpy? I tried on something similar and thought it was something my gran would have worn. Quite close to tears as the first is too tight.

www.jaeger.co.uk/Jacquard%20Panelled%20Dress/630131H,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_630131H_color=89100&dwvar_630131H_size=6&start=16&cgid=women-occasionwear

I cannot do browns/beiges of kind.

Sad Sad

QueenQueenie · 09/05/2014 22:26

The first one is lovely Windy. Have to say I'm not so keen on the second - it's a bit meh,
What about this - nice colour
or this - lovely print which wil be very flattering I think

OP posts:
addle · 09/05/2014 22:36

love your first dress, windy. less keen on the second, bit severe. love both qqs suggestions and think the pink would look v nice on you

am trying to post ToT hoping they will turn up but anyway am in to lose 7lbs - esp. as think is post menopausal so possibly here to stay.

mi - stuff like ?cv or beachy sent their son on would be good - trips / quests

qq - like you am a tuberose/gardenia sort of person. before you became strikingly silver, were you dark haired? (pursuing dodgy theory of perfumes)

Sour Crepes
SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 09/05/2014 22:58

Addle, interesting theory, but CV and I have similar taste in perfumes, she is dark and I am gingerish...

QueenQueenie · 09/05/2014 23:02

I was dark haired Addle - darkish brown anyway!

OP posts:
motherinferior · 09/05/2014 23:15

That pink is lovely.

I have been out with my old Pilates group and am full of lurve for my besh mates Grin

What is your theory, addle?

motherinferior · 09/05/2014 23:16

I like citrus AND tuberose AND woody ones but then am a Genetic Freak when it comes to colouring Hmm

NearTheWindymill · 09/05/2014 23:25

I love the first but have put on 7lb since I bought it and it's pulling and sack of spuddish! V angry with myself. I need something more forgiving. Will just try on "fat lady" dresses until I find something. Will still be chilly I think so can cover a multitude with a pashmina.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 09/05/2014 23:33

What is a "fat lady" dress?

QueenQueenie · 09/05/2014 23:37

Enough with the self critical tone Windy!
If you stay off the carbs for a week and eat sensibly the black dress will surely be fine...

OP posts:
NUFC69 · 10/05/2014 05:52

For some reason I can't see your dress, Windy, (am on phone) but I prefer QQ's Jaegar dresses, too - particularly the second.

Crem, how exciting to be marshaling (should that be two Ls?). I hope it stays fine for you.

I am going to a thing in a local church hall - activities for the over 55s in my town; should be interesting.
