what shoes to wear in the summer with plantar fasciitis

I have plantar fasciitis in one foot and have to wear insteps so this means that I can no longer spend all summer in flats. :(
I don't do heels.
I don't want to wear crocs.

What shoes would you wear with the following (would need to put the instep in them) that aren't flats, high heels or flip flops?

brogues?

Tickle, those are gorgeous!

Forgot, I can wear Toms with no problems too which is surprising, but they are fairly well padded so if the PF is under control they work too.

Have you seen rieker shoes? I have some amazingly comfortable shoes from them.

hugoagogo · 18/04/2014 20:12

keen are a good supportive shoe, I think they are nice than hotter/padder alternative.

Make sure you ice your feet for 15-20 mins each day; boo buddies like this make it easy. (wrap in a cloth if you haven't got socks on)

I also find that wearing crocs at home gives my feet some support- I never go barefoot and when for instance I have gone on holiday and not taken my crocs and just worn pumps/ barefeet for a week, the pain soon comes back.

have you seen a podiatrist and had an orthotic made?

I just bought a pair of Mephisto Helen. They are similar to Birkenstocks but a bit different which I like. www.shoesinternational.co.uk/helen.html
I found loads of reviews of these shoes by people with PF who said they were fab.

Cocolepew · 18/04/2014 23:25

I wear Converse with a Birkinstock insole in them . The insoles are available online. I just move them shoe to shoe.

ChishandFips33 · 18/04/2014 23:34

Ecco gladiator sandals have been a life save for me!(PF sufferer too)

Trainer like sole (but discreet) and trendy on the upper - have had loads of compliments (and from the young 'uns!) and don't need my insoles as they are slightly moulded inside. I also have the nicer crocs and karrimoor walking sandals but in th Eccos I can walk for miles and never an ounce of pain :-)

My shoes arrived today, bloody hell they're so comfy! I advise you all to try them :)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2014 13:19

You need birkenstocks-people wear then for a reasonWink

polyhymnia · 19/04/2014 13:25

When I had PF I found the hard sole if Birkenstocks agonising and could only cope with Fitflops but I guess different things work for different people .

Thank you for all the tips. Have seen my GP who said I could make my own appointment with a podiatrist. Have been doing exercises but not the ice thing so will try that too.
