Fuck this shit. I've decided I'm going retro with my skin care.

It occurred to me the other day that I like Steam Cream because it's like a cold cream, but lighter.

I used cold cream (Nivea) every night throughout my teens and early twenties.

It's occurred to me that I've only ever adapted my skin care when stuffs been discontinued or because I've got older and you are supposed to change and you age.

In all honesty my skins no different to it was 15 years ago apart from the odd wrinkle.

I picked up some Nivea last week pm in pound, and and I had forgotten his much crap it gets off my face and how nice it leaves my skin.

So I thought back, and I've spent the last 10 years trying to find a cleanser as good as Himalaya cleansing milk, and non have been, not even close. Even Lancôme and Clarins. You could see the grime come off your skin, and it melted make up in seconds (stung the eyes though so used Nivea to remove eye up).

So I've ordered some on Ebay that is imported.

And ditto for Ponds Vanishing Cream. That was so good in the mornings that I could go without make up and it kept my shine free all day. And when I put make up no primer was required.

So I've sourced that too. Up till now never occurred to me to see if they were still been manufactured else where in the world.

I am happy and excited, and can't wait till they come Grin

What other products were really brilliant that you just can't get in the UK anymore?

Loved Flex, nothing else smells so lovely.

I used to use surgical spirit as a toner Shock. I Still love the smell of it though. And it wasn't dissimilar to Clinque!

Legologgo · 12/04/2014 22:03

wow at revlon flex - that stuff SERIOUSLY stung your eyes

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 12/04/2014 22:43

I used a Buff Puff every day through most of my teens (exfoliation had just been discovered in the late 70s!).
Then slathered on Nivea or Astral - had amayzing skin.

Think I'll get me some and see how it works on a 50y/old.

Gingefringe · 12/04/2014 22:50

I also loved Flex. Will try poundland to see if they have any.
I used to love a cleanser and toner duo called Delph (I think?). Very lemony smell and the toner was also like paintstripper. I remember cleaning the dust grime off the top of my wardrobe with the toner - it came up a treat.

AmberLeaf · 12/04/2014 22:52

10-0-6 was great.

Flex that is available now, is not the same as the old one, it smells different and is a different formula. I loved Flex.

Astral was lovely.

Boots used to do a Lemon leave in conditioner. Came in a clear pump bottle and was a very watery spray. I bought it mainly because of the strong lemony smell but it made my hair amazingly soft.

Sazbird · 13/04/2014 01:22

Wow this brings back memories. Avon still do the rich moisture cream range and they are online now. Aapri do a box of double sided pads instead now which you can get in pound land.
Also they have their own version of a bb cream which is brilliant. I use it as a daytime base under loose powder. Give it try, it's a pound right?

BigArea · 13/04/2014 01:31

My sis and I used to love Clean and Clear cleansing lotion which sounds v similar to the Ten o Six one you're talking about. Resulted is satisfyingly black cotton wool pads - how was there ever so much filth on our faces?!

The other disgusting thing I used to love doing was Biore Strips - I used to be thrilled by the little 'plugs' left on the strip (we used to show each other!) and my fabulously reduced blackheads Grin

Ginformation · 13/04/2014 01:46

Ha ha 10-0-6!!! Proper blast from the past. I miss Sun In Blush

What were those wash in wash out hair dyes in triangular boxes called? Don't miss them, just nostalgic now.

smilerc · 13/04/2014 07:23

Flex is still sold in Spain and I'm pretty sure in France too so the stuff in the pound shop is probably imported from there. My mum lives in France near the Spanish border and I have a bottle on the go for when I visit her. It smells just like I remember it! It leaves my hair so shiny!

I also loved 10 0 6. It must have stripped the skin so badly bit I was convinced it would help my spots. A lot of the "spot" ranges now do astringent cleanser which are very similar just maybe not quite so strong.

Financeprincess · 13/04/2014 08:35

Shaders and toners, Gin.

HoneyDragon · 13/04/2014 08:39

You can still get those hair dyes in my local chemist Grin

Boots have a Traditional range incl Cold Cream that Glycerin and Rosewater stuff and a Vitamin A range. Packaging looks really nice too

Bearleigh · 13/04/2014 08:45

Yes you can still get Apri and it is still like sandpaper.

What I miss is the St Ives hair conditioner with protein, it was great for my weak hair.

Someone mentioned Vitapoint. Phyto 7 is very similar:

PiratePanda · 13/04/2014 08:53

Ooh! Aapri! I coveted Aapri as a teen in the 80s but my mum wouldn't buy me anything of the sort. I could borrow her Oil of Ulay if I liked (which in Australia was called Oil of Ulan, weird).

HoneyDragon · 13/04/2014 08:55

You can still get the vitapointe leave in stuff

The hair dye in triangular box was called Harmony. There also used to be silver & red sachets called Hint of a Tint. I remember buying them in Woolworths.

Megbeth · 13/04/2014 09:00

I also remember Delph lemon cleanser & toner. It let really lemony & stung if it got near your eye.

whitewitchofnarnia · 13/04/2014 09:06

I got a sort of modern version of sun in for dd from avon for dd. It works but has less chance of going wrong (and sun in went very wrong on my hair when I used it first time round)

JRmumma · 13/04/2014 09:24

Deffo getting some aapri if they sell it in poundland. Cleanest face ever!!!!!

How about bog standard vosene in the tear shape bottle.

SundaySimmons · 13/04/2014 09:27

Kiehls creme de corps at forty odd quid a bottle is identical to Revlon dry skin relief lotion that I used to buy from Boots in the 80s.

miffy22 · 13/04/2014 10:17

Loving this - really taking me back. I loved the Body Shop cucumber cleansing cream & their elderflower eye gels. Biore strips were great & a bit addictive TBH and I'm off to try and find some aapri as that was fantastic! I used to douse myself in Body Shop white musk too...

aylesburyduck · 13/04/2014 19:58

I love my vitapointe conditioner. It's brilliant.

My Grandmother used to use vanishing cream....I always wondered what it made vanish!!

HoneyDragonDoesNotGiveAShit · 13/04/2014 20:22

It's nice to talk about products from our youth that we enjoyed for a change rather than a what were we thinking with Black Cherry lipstick thread.

I love Vitapointe too.

CorrieDale · 13/04/2014 20:50

Le Jardin. The scent of my teens. So sickly!

Also loved body shop's banana shampoo. It was a swine to rinse out! My face hair product though was a conditioner that came in a pot from Daniel Field. It was awesome - made my hair shine so much. I miss that hair :-(

Love the analysis of ten 0 six! Banned ingredients, eh? Must be good!
