What do you wear to disguise mumtum, I can't seem to get it right!

Last baby was 2 years ago but I have a definite baby belly still. I think it sticks out more as I'm quite short and small framed. I have lost weight round my waist and thighs but the mumtum is still like a little pouch!!
In winter I've covered up in jumper dresses & leggings but now trying to buy some clothes for spring and I'm so conscious of my tummy. If I wear boyfriend jeans and a fitting top I have a bump when I stand sideways on and look in mirror. But if I wear a loose top it is very unflattering on me and makes me look even more pregnant!

Any advice please. I want to treat myself to a few things to wear, just for casual wear but I don't know what to go for as I just feel I look an odd shape in everything.

No answers but I have the same problem!

CuriosityCola · 11/04/2014 18:39

Marking place as I have this problem. I'm long in the body, so my body shaping vests (jojo mama ones) ride up and make me look more lumpy. I long to be streamline again.

bouquetofpencils · 11/04/2014 18:47

I have a caesarean overhang. Back to pre pregnancy weight but tum is a completely different shape.
Seeking same answers!
I look about 4mths pregnant in most things I wear.

treaclesoda · 11/04/2014 18:48

joining the thread and looking round hopefully for advice.

NormHonal · 11/04/2014 18:54

Same here. Empire-line tunics are now a total no-go as they make me look 6 months gone.

At the moment I'm wearing a lot of shirts and jeans. Shirts not a typical maternity choice, IMO?

What I find really frustrating is that the difference between non-pregnant-looking tum and pregnant-looking tum is as small as 2lbs in weight for me. I put on two lbs last week and bingo, looked like I was about to pop.

Jemster · 11/04/2014 19:02

Thanks everyone, nice to know I'm not alone with this. I'm really lacking in confidence due to this, especially when the ladies I work with are gorgeous & flat tummied with new clothes on every day! I have a handful of clothes that fit me since having dc and they make me look awful.

high waisted jeans are great-I likwe the next shape and lift ones-hold it all in.

Aked · 11/04/2014 19:08

Second the Next lift and shape jeans, and I had to size down - bonus! I'd never tried them before as have always liked low waisted jeans, but decided to give them a go. They are my new favourite jeans (I have the skinny ones but they do all styles I think)

Jemster · 11/04/2014 19:09

Defineme I have tried those next jeans and thought they were fab. How did you find the sizing? I thought they were a little tight but I know in the past my next jeans have expanded after a few wears. Not sure whether to stick with the 10 or get the 12?

What shape are you generally (ignoring mumtum)? Apple? Pear? Hourglass? If the last (which I am) you should still wear simple tailored clothes that skim your curves and show off your waist. Don't be tempted by shapeless tunics or anything empire line - you'll just look dumpy and/or pregnant. Also, spanx are now your friend :-)

Aked · 11/04/2014 19:10

Also, the bum looks nice on them as they lift a bit and the pockets sit properly on yer bum, rather than pockets, space, bum crease - IYKWIM!

teenybash7 · 11/04/2014 19:13

Marking place too - sorry, no advice! My problem is Caesarean overhang. No matter how strong my muscles are underneath I still feel self-conscious.

Let's hope we get some advice - otherwise we'll just have to have a support group thread!

Jemster · 11/04/2014 19:14

Pirate I am a pear and 5'3" so can easily look swamped in things too shapeless or loose. I do like things that fit my curves but not the curve on my tummy! I think I'm struggling with how to wear fitted clothes that show my shape without them being too tight on my middle area.

FrankSpenser · 11/04/2014 19:18

Piratepanda...can you link to some examples of simple, tailored lines please? Cheap too as I'm so skint but I'm desperate for new tops. My shape is hour glass as well. I like loose tunics but they make me look bigger than i am.

Polonius · 11/04/2014 19:20

I have mum tum too. Does anyone have any tips for shifting it?

donttrythisathome · 11/04/2014 19:23

I've always had a belly. This top www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Tops-T-shirts/3_4-Sleeved-Tops/WL784/Womens-Wrap-Jersey-Top in black is the best I ever found for disguising it. Really flattering. Boring though, I know. Sigh.

Anyone considered a tummy tuck ?
I am at the end as after 4 kids in four years have so much loose skin on my tummy I can almost knot it.

unintentionalthreadkiller · 11/04/2014 19:30

I wear M&s control vests with everything - they are brilliant, suck the wobbly bits in and give a really smooth line under everything.

Polonius · 11/04/2014 19:34

Have to admit princess, I'm considering one! Weight has always gathered in a pouch over my uterus, even before kids, so I'm worried that it's not going to shift naturally.

Will look at the options posted and get serious soon though, thanks everyone.

fukkigucci · 11/04/2014 19:39

I'm place marking too.
Hate my tummy. I'm a size 8/10 and about 5". I used to really enjoy shopping but I can't find anything that suits now.

Polonius · 11/04/2014 19:42

30 day shred looks excellent, can't believe I'd never come across it before!
