This is about a thread I posted before about a hairdressers.

I'm thinking of splashing out and having a change and want something special.

I have and I do! He's the best hair dresser I've ever had, is based in Cardiff and we live in West Midlands, works in many ways as we have family that way anyway but once you find a good hairdresser it makes it worth it! Can't say it's ever bothered me enough to consider finding a good one locally - just need to book in advance as often make a weekend of it!

flipchart · 08/04/2014 22:32

I started a thread earlier about Mark Hill's salon and thinking of going to Hull.

Ummme.... Well I regularly do. Moved away and never found anyone as good so ended up (after 5 years!) going back. I take the train though!

SpringComeHereYouFabulousSeaso · 08/04/2014 22:40

No I wouldn't. I have a standard bob. I have a lovely hairdresser now who does a great job and I go back to her time after time (first time I have ever done that in my entire adult life) BUT, it's just a cut and I am sure I could find someone else if I tried. Glad I don't have to though, she's lovely, sweet and calm and doesn't talk too much (bliss). I still don't like going to the hairdressers though Grin

ouryve · 08/04/2014 22:43

Why the hell is he in (or, rather, near) Hull?! Confused

NormHonal · 08/04/2014 22:45

No, have moved hairdresser a few times and always found a good one again.

flipchart · 08/04/2014 22:46

I don't know but it is nearer and easier for me than London (Bet parking will be cheaper as well!)

OP posts:
ouryve · 08/04/2014 22:46

And no. It would be a similar distance for me. Slightly nearer, as the crow flies, in fact. I used to travel 25 miles for a stylist I liked, but ended up going far too long between cuts. I've found a lad a whole 5 miles a way who actually gets the way my hair behaves even better (his is a similar texture and I have mine short, anyhow) and is a lot cheaper.

PacificDogwood · 08/04/2014 22:49

No, no way.
It's only hair Grin

DH, however, has only ever had his hair cut by the same hairdresser since they were both students (25 years ago) and has driven wherever he happened to be based at the time. DH says it's because he a. shares his interest in cars b. is heterosexual Hmm. Haircutting does not feature in this line of justification...

BackforGood · 08/04/2014 22:53

No way! Shock

Yes I do, to Cardiff like chelsbells, maybe to the same salon ? ! My lovely Swedish friend, who had the best hair colouring job I've ever seen, used to go home , to Sweden, to her local salon, to get it done. She lived in London at the time!

Coumarin · 09/04/2014 04:05

Yes I would. I haven't been fully happy with my haircuts for over two years now.

I saw your other thread and it's got me thinking too. It's not as far from me. If you do find out any more info, please let us know. Smile

Brabra · 09/04/2014 05:54

Well I travel over 3000 miles to see mine!
I don't only go to see her though, but if I am home I always go for a cut and colour. I do also use hairdressers here though.

Floisme · 09/04/2014 06:56

I don't but I would consider it. A good haircut is a wondrous thing.

chelsbells · 09/04/2014 07:28

Ohh Helly I wonder... I go to Savvas, not on the city, outside at the Copthorne hotel, he's brilliant!

Chewbecca · 09/04/2014 09:13

Depends a bit on how often you go. If you are an every 6 week type, I think you'd be mad to start this habit. But every 6 months would be ok I think.

Though I am sure there is someone equally good more local, you just haven't found them yet.

OldRoan · 09/04/2014 09:17

My old hairdresser - no.

Current hairdresser - yes. And have. I was thinking the other day and decided if I had to only have 10 people in my life, she would be one of the people I chose.

AnnabelleDarling · 09/04/2014 10:35

Yes I would.

My neighbour flies from Dublin to Manchester every 6 weeks for a haircut!

cardamomginger · 09/04/2014 11:39

Only if it was the only person who could get my hair right. I really don't think I'd do it for a first appointment, where the quality of the haircut and how I get on with the stylist are both unknown.

Nellymay · 09/04/2014 13:14

I've been to local salon, city, home town, London for haircuts and in exasperation I've just gone back to a salon which is a 100 mile trip for me. I'm really pleased with my current style. I like my stylist, he's very good and he has an instinct for hair and your overall look and what will suit you. I trust him, he's also very funny very down to earth. Very well known and some people may not like him but I do and ultimately that's what counts. I found him on a friends recommendation even though her hair is different to mine and her style is different I could see how well her hair is cut and how well it suits her.
I think it's worth it to travel this far, for me my hair is important to me and my sense of well being. I've often worried about the distance and the cost in money and time but I don't spend a lot on myself, so why not? I treat the afternoon as my day out, I have a nice coffee, wander round some shops and generally have a relaxing reviving time

I'm sick of emperors new clothes types hairdressers and mediocracy so I'll go where I get what I want :)

IlonaRN · 09/04/2014 16:09

My Mum travels to Germany to have her hair cut. She lives in Denmark, so it's about 2hrs drive each way. She goes with a friend, and they make a day of it.
It's actually cheaper for her to do this than to have it cut and coloured in Denmark!

Scarletohello · 09/04/2014 16:38

I recently found a hairdresser who specialises in curly hair. My hair looks so much better now I've found someone who knows how to cut and style it. He's in a different city to me and I'm happy to travel to him and probably would do even if I moved away. A good hairdresser is worth their weight in gold especially if you have difficult hair!

IamInvisible · 09/04/2014 16:42

I have done in the past. We moved away and I wanted to go from long to short so combined going back to see family with having a haircut by my old hairdresser, but I wouldn't drive all that way to solely have my haircut.
