Evil Converse!

RiojaHaze · 06/04/2014 10:57

I have a pair of these converse dance laces www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/5,20/2515101291
Which I totally love but a year on the heels still rub so much that they make my heels bleed. I've tried walking while standing on the heels pushed down trying to soften them, wearing plasters and wearing them little and often to try and break them in but it's not happening!

Any tips on how I can wear them without getting scabby heels?

Watching with interest! I have tan leather ones that I can't wear for the same reason Angry

Mine rub too. They only get worn if I'm not going too far these days.

expatinscotland · 06/04/2014 11:16

Put Compeed plasters on before wearing them?

I prefer Supergas. They fit my feet better.

PippiL · 06/04/2014 11:18

I have evil silver leather converse

I am not quite there with mine, but have been wearing in really gradually, with thick socks.

Presume you want to get to a stage for summer where you can wear the dance ones without socks...good luck!

foofooyeah · 06/04/2014 11:19

Won't help you now, but my adult son always needs a size larger in converse.

DigitConfusion · 06/04/2014 11:29

Those Converse are all so pretty!

Not helpful but I find sometimes you just get an evil pair Confused

Even the same style...I had pair after pair of the hi tops that were fine then had an evil grey pair. Same with the normal style, all fine and then an evil red pair. It's really odd.

Bornin1984 · 06/04/2014 11:30

I had these and had no issues with them

Annianni · 06/04/2014 11:34

Have you tried washing them, to soften the fabric a bit?
I've washed dsd's and they wash fine.

PaulinesPen · 06/04/2014 11:39

Shoe-stretchers maybe?

HyvaPaiva · 06/04/2014 11:41

I fixed this on mine! Try the following, I really hope it works.

Put on two thick pairs of socks.

Force your feet into the front of the Converse but let the back flatten, so your heel is squashing it down rather than placed inside the back of the shoe. This helps start the softening. If it works better for you, force your heel into the shoe rather than flattening it, whatever's most comfortable is fine.

Wiggle your toes or walk around for a few minutes.

Next, with your feet still in them, blast a very hot hairdryer over the parts of the Converse that cause pain. Do this for exactly two minutes. If you flattened the heel, move your foot out of the way to blast the heel fabric. Leave your feet in them until completely cooled. This creates a moulding effect.

For me, that sufficiently softened/broke in the shoes properly. I only needed to do it once to both my pairs and they have been great ever since. They were a nightmare for many months before this. Hope it works for you!

Stop trying to embrace this ridiculous unhygienic fad for not wearing socks with anything except leather lined sandals!

RiojaHaze · 06/04/2014 12:03

Fab thanks, going to go and pilfer a couple of pairs of DPs work socks!

Two pairs of thin socks, rather than one pair of thick socks is much better in ice skates. They move against each other rather than against you causing blisters.

Might well work for breaking in converse on cool days when you can get away with socks and long jeans.

In the far distant days of Jesus creeper sandals you bought them in the sale, wore them with thick socks as slippers round the house in winter, with thin socks to school and (when lovely and soft) with nothing in the holidays.

cherryhealey · 06/04/2014 12:52

Scuff my heels to ribbons.....got on much better with boden converse lookalikes which had pretty ribbon laces.

I have quite narrow feet but even I find converse narrow.

Cocolepew · 06/04/2014 12:57

The best thing to wear if shoes are rubbing is to put a pant liner on your heels, 2 if needed.
It's big and sticks really well.

I have these evil converse in blue (which I notice are now in the sale - better not tell dp who got them for me for crimbo he will be most annoyed Wink)

I got some little mini socks called footees - they go over your heel and toe and are low enough on the sides not to show above the evil converse. They helped with the rubbing.

I like the tip above about thick socks and a hair dryer. Grin

I had to give up. I have lovely sparkles silver ones but after 3 years. I do superga and new balance now. They have gone to the chazzer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2014 15:34

I've got the same tan ones as MsRyanGosling. Love em, but I usually wear socks or trainer liners with them. Also, I find Converse come up big, so have an insole in them and then they don't slip.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 06/04/2014 15:56

I think you have to toughen your feet up! Like Birkenstocks. I pretty much only wear converse and birkies but my feet were ripped to shreds during the process.

Now I can wear any shoes I like due to my rhino hide tootsies. In the mean time, boots own brand blister plasters works well.

whitecat · 06/04/2014 16:16

This is brilliant stuff to save sore toes, rubbed heels etc.
It's padded but not too thick and sticks well. Just be careful putting your foot in as you don't want to roll it off.

I've also used gaffer/duct tape with cotton wool under for padding if I've run out of the foam padding.

AnyFucker · 06/04/2014 16:23

These shoes are simply not designed to wear without foot coverings. Sorry. The canvas is too hard and always will be.

I find Fat Face washed styles are the only ones that are.

expatinscotland · 06/04/2014 16:24

I wear mine with no socks. Supergas, too. And Birkies. None ever ripped my feet and I use Fleixitol religiously.

Mignonette · 06/04/2014 16:28

I have sociopathic Converse too in mint green and they hurt. Have been wandering around in them with the backs trod down and they still will not give in- truculent sods. What somebody needs to do is design a pair of trainer socks with removable gel padding in the Achilles tendon region.

They are still far far cooler than New Balance though Wink. Try hards- the New Balance lot.
