I've been hearing some fab things about electric toothbrushes n have decided to buy one.

There are so many to choose from, I was hoping you could help me decide which one to get.

Which one do you think does a super job n what toothpaste do you use with it?Smile

There are 3 types of electric toothbrush.
The basic electric brush that typically brushes you teeth at around 2000 strokes a minute
The sonic brushes that go up to 40,000
The new ultrasonic brushes that use sound to break up plaque that oscillate at stupid speeds (96,000,000). You can't hear these and sometime can't even feel them but the sound penetrates the gums killing plaque beneath the gum line.
I am going to buy a Megasonex ultrasound for myself but there are others out there that seem just as good.
Really research them though. I know at least one that recommends only its own toothpaste. It's only £4 a tube but I like sensodyne.
I'll post again when I get my new one.

I hate them. But my aspergers son won't clean his with anything else than an electric toothbrush which I still can't understand as he hates certain textures etc. He uses a Braun Oral B, can highly reccommend it.

Hi
Doing even more research I now discover a "ionic toothbrush" costing about £30 or less. This uses light to create some sort of reaction such that the plaque falls of even in difficult to reach places.
This stuff is a mine field.
I asked my dentist this morning if she had any observations and she said she uses a standard hand brush from Tesco's and all the rest is just snake oil. We had a little discussion about it. I mean if we never tried anything new we would not make any progress.
But what I am hearing most is that as far as the new technologies are concerned, we are all very early adopters and no real long term studies or proofs are available yet.
(hy-g is the ionic toothbrush I found it is not electric. Panasonic make an electric one at £200. They say you don't need toothpaste with them as this blocks the light)

Just want to say that I hadn't thought about getting a new electric toothbrush until reading this thread.

I am now ~£120 poorer after buying the Phillips diamond clean. However it is amazing!

My teeth feel so smooth and look immediately whiter - I was getting really conscious about yellowing.

I really recommend it, you won't be disappointed. And it's a lovely colour Smile

Dentists usually recommend Oral B as the best.

My dentist also recommended Oral B so I bought one, but I always end up with toothpaste all around my mouth and dripping off my chin when I use it! To do with the shape of the head I think, and its so noisy and 'clunky' if you know what I mean. So I still mainly use my Sonicare.
