Over here all........

I, after my melt down on Mothering Sunday, emailed dp and ds pointing out we all live in thus house so we all need to help - this includes at least one meal a week cooked by each of us (worked so far!) and various other diktats

Herbs - sounds like a cyst that has burst - you know like when you get a spot it's sore until it bursts. Rinse as advised to get all the crap out and definitely see the dentist.

Blackduck · 04/04/2014 14:17

Herbs you'll hate the pain of a bad tooth more.... Go and get it sorted - we'll hold your hand!

OP posts:
herbaceous · 04/04/2014 14:23

But it's not a tooth, it's more hideous. Around a root-canalled and crowned tooth, I have had bone loss. I think this is now a bit infected, hence the pain. So for it to be sorted, I might have to have the tooth out and all manner of foulness done to my jaw. Worst case scenario, obvs.

Best case scenario, a short course of anti-biotics!

Pollycazalet · 04/04/2014 14:26

Hi all

Massively productive day so far - mostly because I sat down at the laptop at 7 and did four and a half solid hours getting a proposal written. Almost forgot to sort out DD's packed lunch in the process though, until she reminded me five minutes before she needed to leave the house. I feel she should really be making her own by now but has gone the way of so many chore rotas - I am good at coming up with them but terrible at following through with enforcement.

Herbs that tooth thing sounds potentially nasty if you have gunk left in there (gunk being a medical term obvs) - even I would go to the dentist with that and I am an utter wuss.

Nice to hear positive tales of year 7 - thanks all for sharing.

MI - I think that's a great plan. DS is 14 and looks after DD a couple of days some days after school (ie they share the same space but barely speak) and he'd be more than capable of taking her out and about if he could be assured he wouldn't bump into friends from school and be mortally embarrassed for hanging out with his sister.

To whoever has the two boys with wonderful reports and amazing work ethics - what's your secret?

motherinferior · 04/04/2014 14:36

I have taken DD2 out for a rather nice lunch, and am attempting to finish writing something about babies and taste buds. Then I ought to look at a feature on nurses. At some point I may also need to write about testicles...

...I do sometimes wonder about my so-called career.

Blackduck · 04/04/2014 14:39

:) MI

I am looking at the job app and on the form they have sneaked in another essential which doesn't figure on the job description......

OP posts:
motherinferior · 04/04/2014 14:39

But am most cheered by your jolly suggestions of far-flung bus travel.

I really want to download gory novels cutting-edge recent works of fiction and take afternoon off. Must not. The testicles await, so to speak.

Blackduck · 04/04/2014 15:22

Ds claim she puts his laundry away..... So how come I have unearthed a pile of it from down beside his bed?

motherinferior · 04/04/2014 16:14

I have spent all day getting not very far for a ridiculously small amount of money Sad

motherinferior · 04/04/2014 16:59

...but I've finished the taste buds. I shall scrutinise the nurses and avoid the testicles.

BD, my two do that. Their father indulgently hid the entire washing basket from me when I got in from choir last night. This made me even crosser as I then had to rummage through it for my Ladyjogging stuff. And then was so knackered this morning that I couldn't face a Ladyjog in any case.

herbaceous · 04/04/2014 17:20

Tragically, the dental surgery isn't answering the phone. Odd.

Even more tragically, we didn't win the hat contest. DS didn't even get the "well done" certificate that others seemed to get. Bah.

CointreauVersial · 04/04/2014 18:55

Ha, Herbs, told you it would get competitive. Grin Just rise above it and crack out the Faberge eggs next year

As if World Book Day wasn't bad enough, DD2 had to go to school today dressed as a "famous scientist". I'm not aware of any scientists who are notable by their clothing, so just like virtually all of her friends, DD2 went to school with crazy hair, nerd specs and one of DH's white shirts in lieu of a lab coat. This is one aspect of Primary School I cannot wait to wave goodbye to.

Polly - yy to Y6s making their own packed lunch. My job is limited to filling the fridge/breadbin and setting "ground rules" and the rest is down to them.

bigTillyMint · 04/04/2014 19:23

CV that's a crap dress-up day - talk about stereotyping scientists as a load of nerdy mad people. No wonder it's hard to recruit science teachersGrin

TFIF! 2 whole weeks and a day offSmile

cremolafoam · 04/04/2014 19:29

I still make the packed lunches for us all.Blush If I left it to dd it would contain
A pot noodle
An array of Oreo-based snackage
Or nothing ( scavenged bits from the sixth form fridge)

I force feed fruit , salad , stuffed pita bread , nuts and seeds.
No doubt next year at uni she will revert to appalling choices, but I feel I must somehow encourage healthy eating I the meantime.

Stropperella · 04/04/2014 19:38

I gave up making packed lunches for dd (Y11!) about 6 months ago and just gave her money for the canteen. That worked for a while and then I realised (on finding a large stash of lunch money in her blazer) that she wasn't eating any lunch at all. Which wasn't helping her frame of mind or state of health at all (she is catching every bug going), so as of this week I have reverted to providing packed lunches again. Which is a pain. But I make them 3 days out of 5 for ds anyway.

I am mightily peed-off with dd because she has still managed to make this whole ICT bollocks my problem. I should really have just looked at the effing grades and said "meh, not my life, not my problem" and not said anything to the teacher at all. In the same way, if she doesn't find another site in the house to park the hamster cage, she is going to return at tea-time one day to find the little guy has fried to death in the direct sun that is now shining on him in the afternoon. She told me it would be my fault for not reminding her to take him (2 person job because of immense size of cage and steepness of stairs) to her room during the day. Of course, I will end up with the responsibility of moving him, because I don't want him to get fried. But this will once again absolve her of all responsibility. My god, this girl is going to get a nasty shock when she ever manages to get a job. Angry I have developed a weird neck twitch, I am so annoyed

bigTillyMint · 04/04/2014 20:05

I make DD's and my packed lunches for the same reasons as Cremo and Stropps.

And I so sympathise, Stropps. DD had a friend round (half-day) and when friend took the plates etc back to the kitchen and put them into our dishwasher, she commented on how friend should be our cleanerShock I pointed out that not everyone wants to live like a pig whilst beaming at and thanking friend.

NUFC69 · 04/04/2014 20:54

If it makes any of you feel better before DD went on ML when she dropped off DGS on the day we have him, not only would she have breakfast here but I provided her with her packed lunch (she's 35). When the DC were at school I did 3 packed lunches every day until DC went to uni: I just found it easier to do it all in one go. DD got her love of baking from me - I used to have a big baking session on Sunday mornings which disappeared during the week in their lunch boxes.

Herbs, I do hope that the toothache has eased off now; you must get your mouth looked at asap.

Blackduck · 05/04/2014 08:11

We have to order lunches (school too small so a local firm caters) this means packed lunches on those variable don't like the look of the menu days. Ds then usually forgets to take them and ends up eating mashed potato.....

I am sniggering at the ludicrous rows thread - hilarious....

OP posts:
hattymattie · 05/04/2014 08:41

Herbs that hat was brill I'm glad I'm not involved in that sort of thing I'm crap at craft.

herbaceous · 05/04/2014 09:01

I am steadfastly resisting letting DS have packed lunches, for these very reasons. I'm not going to be a slave to the tupperware.

I have however found myself sorting out child-related admin againAngry about a party DD1 is going to. DP appeared to assume the Sorting Out Fairy had done this AngryAngry

Rudy, result! I have to remember to top my DC's fobs up.
