Home teeth whitening. Toothpaste? What works?

Has anyone bought a whitening toothpaste and it actually works ?
There is so much choice but I don't have the budget to try them all!

Arm & Hammer products are really great.
And yes they do make a big difference.

Do they taste funny? I got one the other day and it tastes disgusting

White glo for me (the smokers one)
I really struggle with staining and this is the only thing that's made a noticeable difference within a few days

The red tube Colgate one really does work.

I have been using the red tube Colgate too - the slightly metallic red one.
Think it has made a difference and more so than the other whitening pastes I've used in the past.

I'm not keen on arm and hammer taste.
I also have to use a sensitive toothpaste everyday,
Do you think the whitening toothpaste will work if i use it once a day?

White Glo for me too. It's one toothpaste the whole family like.

I don't find toothpastes do too much but crest whitening strips (I buy from ebay so you can actually get the ones with proper whitening stuff in them only sold in the US) show good results.

nothing you can buy over the counter in the UK actually whitens - good teeth cleaning makes a big difference.

whitening = bleaching = weakened teeth. Dentist only. Those comedy Hollywood smilers will be living on soup in later years.

I was told by a dentist that toothpastes are allowed to make whitening claims as anything that cleans teeth can be said to whiten. but actually, they aren't allowed to put stuff in toothpaste that whitens teeth effectively.

I use blanx ad have noticed a proper difference.

Seconding blanx here but safe for teeth. When I stopped fags I did pearl drops then oil pulling with coconut oil which made big difference also.

Where did you get your coconut oil from?

It's when you use a small amount of coconut oil , let it melt in your mouth, then swish it around your teeth for up to 15 mins.
Spit it out into a tissue.

I think it's good for your teeth.

I do oil pulling and my teeth are noticeably whiter to the point people comment on them.

I don't believe any toothpastes can possibly whiten teeth

None work. If they did your gums would lighten too.

Whitening toothpastes are abrasive and shouldn't be used every day. According to dental friends of mine.

Yes they are abrasive. As well as not actually whitening the colour of your teeth, they are more abrasive to remove stain. Underneath your white enamel is dentine, which is yellow. So a more abrasive toothpaste which removes enamel over time will end up revealing more dentine thus making the teeth yellower.

If your teeth are stained, see a hygienist. Direct access means you don't even need to see a dentist first anymore.

I use whatever toothpaste the reps give me for free. The only exception is whitening ones which I won't touch.

Dentists - isn't blanx ok? Thought t was natural stuff

A Pumice stone is natural. I wouldn't use one to clean my teeth though

I now have sensitive teeth thanks to over brushing with whitening toothpaste.
