Has anyone bought a whitening toothpaste and it actually works ?
There is so much choice but I don't have the budget to try them all!

Arm & Hammer products are really great.
And yes they do make a big difference.

TacitusMouse · 21/03/2014 22:18

Do they taste funny? I got one the other day and it tastes disgusting

goodasitgets · 21/03/2014 22:32

White glo for me (the smokers one)
I really struggle with staining and this is the only thing that's made a noticeable difference within a few days

Madamecastafiore · 21/03/2014 22:33

The red tube Colgate one really does work.

Steppingintothecanineunknown · 21/03/2014 22:49

I have been using the red tube Colgate too - the slightly metallic red one.
Think it has made a difference and more so than the other whitening pastes I've used in the past.

ihatethecold · 22/03/2014 09:44

Thanks, will try the colgate red one i think.
I'm not keen on arm and hammer taste.
I also have to use a sensitive toothpaste everyday,
Do you think the whitening toothpaste will work if i use it once a day?

White Glo for me too. It's one toothpaste the whole family like.

louwn · 22/03/2014 12:00

I don't find toothpastes do too much but crest whitening strips (I buy from ebay so you can actually get the ones with proper whitening stuff in them only sold in the US) show good results.

specialsubject · 22/03/2014 17:46

nothing you can buy over the counter in the UK actually whitens - good teeth cleaning makes a big difference.

whitening = bleaching = weakened teeth. Dentist only. Those comedy Hollywood smilers will be living on soup in later years.

shamble · 22/03/2014 19:10

I was told by a dentist that toothpastes are allowed to make whitening claims as anything that cleans teeth can be said to whiten. but actually, they aren't allowed to put stuff in toothpaste that whitens teeth effectively.

Ememem84 · 22/03/2014 19:14

I use blanx ad have noticed a proper difference.

pippop1 · 22/03/2014 22:31

Janina is good too.

FrankCarsonsDressingRoom · 23/03/2014 08:51

Seconding blanx here but safe for teeth. When I stopped fags I did pearl drops then oil pulling with coconut oil which made big difference also.

ihatethecold · 23/03/2014 10:35

Where did you get your coconut oil from?

OP posts:
mrs14 · 23/03/2014 10:41

Sorry but what on earth is oil pulling? .

ihatethecold · 23/03/2014 14:34

It's when you use a small amount of coconut oil , let it melt in your mouth, then swish it around your teeth for up to 15 mins.
Spit it out into a tissue.

I think it's good for your teeth.

I do oil pulling and my teeth are noticeably whiter to the point people comment on them.

I don't believe any toothpastes can possibly whiten teeth

babySophieRose · 23/03/2014 23:47

Janina and Rembrandt are the ones i can say made a difference for me.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/03/2014 23:49

None work. If they did your gums would lighten too.

A study at the Eastman also found oil pulling was useless.

theresnomewithoutyou · 24/03/2014 08:32

Whitening toothpastes are abrasive and shouldn't be used every day. According to dental friends of mine.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/03/2014 08:50

Yes they are abrasive. As well as not actually whitening the colour of your teeth, they are more abrasive to remove stain. Underneath your white enamel is dentine, which is yellow. So a more abrasive toothpaste which removes enamel over time will end up revealing more dentine thus making the teeth yellower.

If your teeth are stained, see a hygienist. Direct access means you don't even need to see a dentist first anymore.

I use whatever toothpaste the reps give me for free. The only exception is whitening ones which I won't touch.

FrankCarsonsDressingRoom · 24/03/2014 09:07

Dentists - isn't blanx ok? Thought t was natural stuff

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/03/2014 09:11

A Pumice stone is natural. I wouldn't use one to clean my teeth though

Damnautocorrect · 24/03/2014 09:15

I now have sensitive teeth thanks to over brushing with whitening toothpaste.

FrankCarsonsDressingRoom · 24/03/2014 09:40

Oops...been using it for months
