Petroleum jelly for nail growth - testers needed!

SundaySimmons · 11/03/2014 10:01

I have a tub of pound shop petroleum jelly which is the same as vaseline brand.

I sometimes use it on eyelashes and eyebrows overnight as it gives them a boost and on my daughter and I both notice that our lashes grow quicker and fuller.

Recently I got too much jelly out of the tub and rubbed the excess into the end of my finger. The next morning it was noticeable that the nail looked better than the others.

For a week I have now been rubbing a teeny tiny amount into my finger nails, cuticle and surrounding skin. The nail growth seems to have accelerated and my nails are strong, flexible and have a healthy sheen in their natural state.

Does anyone else rub petroleum jelly into their finger nails and get great results?

Anyone want to test it for a week and see if their nails grow faster/look better?

I have done applied Vaseline now for two nights and, like Redshoe, my nails already look better.

Thank you for the feedback.

I'm so pleased with this, it is a quick, cheap and easy thing to do and the results are fast.

I'm pleased it is working for others as I wanted to be sure that the change in my nails was due to using petroleum jelly, and if others have tried it and it works, then we must be on to something!

Bought some today, first application and they look amazing! I've bought countless cuticle oils and this one is better by far!

My cuticles are so dry normally - they feel great now. Will report back regularly as a tester :)

My daughter is getting peed off with my marvelling at my nails!

They have never looked so good in their natural state. I don't want to wear polish as they have such a lovely sheen about them. I occasionally use a rimmel white pencil to whiten underneath the nail tip, but they look fab on their own.

It last longer than the coconut oil does, love it!Grin

MrsShrek3 · 13/03/2014 22:58

vaseline does work like that. I have eczema and smother my hands in vaseline and put cheap cotton gloves on overnight. Ironically my nails grow so beautifully I have to file them down so I don't scratch holes in my skin when scratching....ohhh the irony

Watching with interest.. My nails are pretty crap at the moment!

I'm in! Grin

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 13/03/2014 23:20

I'm in. My nails are shite.

BlueSkySunnyDay · 13/03/2014 23:26

I will have to get some and give it a go, nail envy had done nothing for them.

Extra curious about the eyelashes though as my left hand ones are really thin

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 14/03/2014 07:01

Nail Envy wrecked my nails.

I slathered Vaseline all over my hnds and wore cotton gloves. My nails look lovely - they have a good sheen.

sewbee · 14/03/2014 19:40

Goodness, after one application my nails look like the nail elves buffed them overnight Shock

SundaySimmons · 15/03/2014 07:12

Sewbee, it's fabulous, isn't it?

Every morning I wake up and look at my nails and they look like I have just been for a manicure!

I usually file mine once a day but with the petroleum jelly the ends of my nails are smoother too and I don't have any ragged edges.

I'm now addicted!

My nails look wonderful!Grin

MimsyBorogroves · 16/03/2014 16:41

Okay, I'm going to have to try this. And, er, what do you do for the eyelashes? Into the lashes themselves or into the skin?

RobinSparkles · 16/03/2014 16:49

Funny that you should start a thread. I've started rubbing plain Vaseline into my nails and they're really long at the moment!

Now, I've never had nice nails. I've bitten them from being tiny and stopped about 5 years ago but they always split, peel and break as soon as they get to the tip of my finger, which is really disappointing. They always felt paper thin too.

Now there are no chips or splits. They look pretty healthy and they're the longest they've ever been!

However, we recently got a dishwasher that might help.
I'm really pleased though and I'm definitely going to continue using the Vaseline.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/03/2014 18:41

OP you were so wrong about the nude eyeliner but spot on with VaselineGrin

schmalex · 16/03/2014 18:44

It's working for me too! Nails look lovely and cuticles are much more hydrated.

I've also been slathering it on my feet and my heels are looking great after one application.

OneMoreThenNoMore · 16/03/2014 18:48

Just spotted this thread; I'm definitely going to try it! My nails go through cycles- they look strong and long for several weeks, then they start peeling and flaking off. They're just starting to do that now so I'll try this and report back. Fingers crossed... Grin

BlueJean · 16/03/2014 18:51

Im in.

I have nails that are as thin as a new born babys. They split, bend and tear so easily and its so annoying. I tried varnishing them to help but that seems to have made matters worse.

I have bought some nail hardener but will hold off until I give the vaseline a good go.

chutneypig · 16/03/2014 18:56

Just off to check the cupboards. I usually don't have any trouble with my nails but they've been splitting something terrible the last couple of weeks.

SplatPancake · 16/03/2014 21:21

I'm in for testing eyelashes - used to do it when a teen and not allowed mascara, and had the most fab lashes. They've never really recovered from chemo 4 years ago, unfortunately.

Moving on, and I'm feeling great, just want my eyelashes back!!!! Have tried a few serums, bit inconclusive, but high hopes for the old Vaseline ....

evelynj · 16/03/2014 22:03

Ah gads, My nails have been awful since I got gel nails for Christmas-can't believe they're still so bad & just put nail envy on them as mn was raving about it. Really wanted them to be good for putting occasional varnish on & to have French manicure gels for 2 week hols at end of May :(

Thankfully Vaseline is cheaper. Will buy some cotton gloves tomorrow to try tomorrow night.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/03/2014 22:05

Nail envy is shite imvhoGrin
