Getting really fed up of looking for a new foundation to replace Double Wear

frankietwospots · 10/03/2014 21:10

So I've been using Estee Lauder Double Wear for a while now but since they changed the formula, it does nothing for me. It flattens and dulls my complexion and even the coverage isn't as good as it used to be. I'm looking for a new foundation with good/full coverage that will give my skin a bit of a lift. I've got mainly normal skin with a bit of redness around the cheeks and nose. I got a sample of Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation today so will be trying it in the morning, but have any ex DW users got any recommendations please?

Is it the new CC one? I thought it was yet to be released- do you mean the BB cream?

bendyruler · 11/03/2014 23:43

I love Clinique anti redness foundation it covers the red bits really well without having to pile it on and lasts all day .....revlon photo ready is good too and less ££

I have returned from the shops with some Lancome Teint Idole Ultra in 01. Will report back once I've slapped it on!

OK, the Teint Idole Ultra is on. First thing to say is that it definitely has the coverage. Next thing is that it has a very matte finish, and I mean really matte. So I've put cream blush on to lift things up a bit but I may need to investigate mixing the foundation with another product (an illuminator?) just to give it a bit of a lift. It has a very light scent which is quite nice. So far, so good...

Let it settle. I find I look a bit flat until I have my blusher on. It has a wee bit of shimmer in (Laura Mercier Pink Lotus) so, it stops the "undead" look! And by the time I've gone about my day for an hour, everything looks settled and not flat.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/03/2014 14:47

I wonder if the Teint Idole is their new variation of Maquimatte?

Eliza- you are my slap guru Grin do you know? I used to love Maquimatte.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/03/2014 15:24

Oh possibly I do mean the BB cream, it was a while back, I've binned it now as it was so crap. I was so disappointed as I love Aldi products normally.

Eliza22 · 12/03/2014 18:22

I am? Why so? Should be on commission!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/03/2014 18:28

It's me, ROC roller ball thingy fellow aficionado! Grin

frankietwospots · 12/03/2014 20:52

You were right Eliza - it did need to settle and looked much better later. I was really pleased with how it lasted the day and it even looked good in my car mirror! I love Laura Mercier Lotus Pink blusher but apparently they have discontinued it - aargh! At least that's what the girl told me on the counter.

I much prefer Teint Idole Ultra to Laura Mercier Silk Creme by the way.

Yes, the Teint Idole looks much better once it's been on a while. As do a lot of matte foundations as you need your skin's natural oils to come through. You could try some testers of Diorskin Forever if you want something more "glowy" but with staying power and coverage. Or Lancome's Teint Miracle, again more "glowy".

I do love the YSL Teint Eclat but it has less coverage and much less staying power than Teint Idole.

MAC Foundations are generally not great. The Full Coverage is a bit on the greasy side so annoying to blend eyeshadow on top of and not brilliant for oily skin. I only use it as concealer if you need extra help for blemishes and scars.

Eliza22 · 13/03/2014 09:35

Of course! Hello DrankSangria Smile. Are you still Rollerball-ing? Sadly, I have now opened my penultimate Roc Roller (Saver shop has none left). When this runs out, the quest for a replacement product will commence.... Actually, it might be good to try something different. I've lost over a stone in weight and my neck's gone all "turkey-lurkey" on me!

Eliza22 · 13/03/2014 09:37

Frankie I only bought my Lotus Pink 3 weeks ago. John Lewis but had it in Selfridges too!

frankietwospots · 13/03/2014 09:38

oh cool, may have to try JL then!

Just thought I'd "bump" this thread to find out how everyone is getting on with their Double Wear alternatives.

Eliza22 you look fabulous and thanks for posting a photo. Your skin looks great.

I've worn Double Wear for over 10 years now but, like others on here, am finding it's just not what it used to be. Anyway I got a sample of Clinique Even Better last week but didn't like it - it just didn't have either the coverage or staying power of DW on my skin. Yesterday I went to John Lewis and got a sample (a rather miserly one it has to be said) of Laura Mercier silk creme which I'm trying out today AND a sample of Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h - a much more generous one - looks like it'll last me about 2 weeks. I will try that one out tomorrow. I would love to try the Revlon ones - Colour Stay & Whipped Creme. Can anyone advise me on colour? In DW I use mainly 3N1 Ivory Beige but mix this with 4N1 Shell Beige in the summer months. Oh I asked at the Clinique counter about Repairwear anti-aging (as they no longer have it out) and the assistant thinks it's being discontinued. They did have some squirreled away but no sample pots.

The woman who did DD's wedding make-up says she uses the Lancome Teint Idole 24 hr on most of the women she does the make-up for. She said it is the best she's found. It looked beautiful and fresh all day/evening on DD.

ilikebigbutts · 04/04/2014 18:48

Loved DW for years but like you couldn't get on with the new formula...have tried the following alternatives to DW in no particular order....

Double Wear Light - Lasts as long as DW, far lighter coverage but found it very hard to blend (even more than DW for some reason) so often got patchy looking areas on my face.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra - Bloody brilliant for the first week (and great selection of colours too) but completely dried my skin out ( I think it has a very high alcohol content) so had to return it. The SA was getting a bit awkward until she looked at my skin and realised that she couldn't argue with me as it was an absolute state.

Dior Forever - Very long wearing, reasonable colour selection. But oxidised like hell on me after a couple of hours so I ended up looking slightly "tangoed". I've read online about some people getting a shade lighter than their skin tone to overcome this problem but as I needed the very lightest shade in the first place that didn't really help me !

No 7 Beautifully Matte - Very decent foundaiton for the money, good colour match for me ( I was the palest shade again, Calico I think). Looked lovely initially but kind of sat on my skin even though I tried to buff it in. Became a wee bit patchy as the day went on.

Revlon Colourstay - I'm using this at the moment and overall I quite like it. Good selection of colours, doesn't change colour, very good coverage, lasts just as long as the DW. Can get a wee bit patchy but I'd trying to overcome this by only doing one small section of my face at a time rather than blobbing it on all over. I use Nivea's Hydration Primer thingy, let it dry in then use Lanacane, let it dry in then apply with the Real Techniques brush. I'm also trying to use less powder to see if it helps with the cakeiness...(is that a word ?)

Not sure that there is such a thing as the perfect foundation anymore.....

TheGrassIsSinging · 04/04/2014 21:00

Revoln Colourstayis like the old Doublewear. Love it.

Anjelika · 05/04/2014 08:26

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to try Lancome Teint Idole 24h today. Quite liked Laura Mercier silk creme yesterday - very good colour match - but it didn't stay put all day like DW. Any tips on colour matching with Revlon Colourstay?

superstaary · 05/04/2014 22:39

Www.findation.com can be used as a reference...I found my colourstay shade using my MAC shade as reference.
