... they looked like she couldn't afford proper shoes. They are horrible!

PandaG · 13/08/2006 20:04

Cheers Ali. Even better, Mum bought and paid for them!

Alibaldi · 13/08/2006 20:06

Now you have to get your jibbitz too cool as they say over here

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:24

I was in Errol, Ali, w/my Croc's. DD1 wore hers, too, w/Jibbitz.

I wore my pink ones in Sainsbury's the other day, wear them everywhere - they are comfy comfy comfy and easy to drive in. And I can catch ds1 in them - in fact I run faster in them than in my trainery type things.

I paid £23 for mine iirc.

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 20:27

Och aye, ye can get that in oor ASDA. Never tried it though, it's good then Expat?

I was in Kirkcaldy, pure class.

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:31

LOL, Mrs. My pal just moved to Lochgelly. We helped her shift last week, I'd never have known where that was unless she'd shown us.

She's a nurse and she works in what she calls Kirkdruggy.

Cairn O'Mohr is good stuff. I get it in the farmer's market in Embra. The Bramble and 'Berry Up' is FAB! Ooooo. I really like the Bramble especially.

Found some other good ones to keep to hand for gifts w/an eye to the holidays coming up. Always nice to have some extra for spur of the mo' pressie.

They give you lots of tastes there. And they have a cool Wendy house for 'bairns', as DH calls wee ones.

DD1 spent most of her time playing w/the sand pit and occassionally running away from the 'beasties' as she calls wasps.

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 20:33

LOL at Kirkdruggy!

So is Cairn O'Mohr not overly sweet then? I always imagine it to be sweet so never get round to buying some.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:37

No. Some are quite dry, especially the white ones - the Autumn Leaf and even the gooseberry.

I didn't find the Bramble too sweet.

The Berry Up one is sweet, but it's yummy!

I haven't had one I didn't like.

The winery's right near the Firth of Tay, too, so we stopped to look on the water.

I quite fancy a move from here, as does DH, but he was brought up so near the Firth of Forth he feels claustrophobic when he's not near a large body of water. We're just a quarter of a mile from Port of Leith just now.

So we're thinking one day of lower Perthshire or East Neuk.

Spagblog · 13/08/2006 20:39

The Crocs flip flops look quite nice...

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 20:42

I'll keep the winery in mind for a visit, any excuse!

The place I was brought up in I think could be described as lower Perthshire, and DH was brought up in the East Neuk, both really nice areas of the country.

im wanting a apir of crocs for dd, they sell them in psyche here for £19..but same n ebay and sometimes free p&P?..they also have diff colours to psyche..but dont like buying shoes i cant 'try on'..just wish weather would change back to buy em!..been to but lined coat and denim jacket for her today!..its bloosy august FGS!

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:47

The flip flops are just a cop out for those who haven't got the cojones to wear the real thing!

Spoon, DH used to holiday ever summer in Anstruther, in a cottage that's still there. His grandad was a fisherman from New Haven and his father a Fifer - Rosyth - who worked as dockman in Port of Leith harbour.

That entire family gets panicky if they're not near a large body of water.

I like Pitlochry and that area, but the first thing out of DH's mouth was, 'It's landlocked.'

He's on an island, ffs!

tassis · 13/08/2006 20:49

ooooh, Cairn a'Mohr wine is lovely

when we lived in Aberdeen they offered wine tasting parties and good friend of our hosted a fantastic one. (only problem was i tasted so many that i got confused and purchased 6 bottles of elderflower instead of elderberry - oops!)

don't know where in the country they offer parties (don't think they do them here in Stirling) but it'd definately be something to look out for.

you can buy the wine in asda, aberdeen....

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:50

I'm telling ya, if you fancy a fun wine and you like berries, try the Berry Up.

Deffo try the Bramble, it's really, really nice.

Verso · 13/08/2006 20:51

ooh expat, I came on here to remark on having seen some crocs the other day and startled my DH by knowing what they were (ie minging) and then noticed you say you're near Edinburgh... v v v jealous as I lived there for 12 years and only moved away under sufferance! Used to work in Leith - lived in Broughton.

Now can't bear to write any more as am soooo at you lol.

Verso · 13/08/2006 20:53

lol and also have totally insulted you - sorry - didn't realise you OWNED some crocs!

read the thread... read the thread... read the thread< (mutters)

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 20:55

I'm IN Edinburgh. Not just near it.

We're fed up to the back teeth w/it and want to move away.

It's so incredibly dear it's not true, a lot of locals have up and left and we're desperate for more space, just to rent even.

zazas · 13/08/2006 20:56

I love mine! So comfortable. Wear them everywhere and proud of it

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 20:59

Expat my DH lived in St Andrews and then Elie for a while, loads of lovely villages up that way.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 21:00

There are, Mrs. DH knows the area well b/c of going there so often as a boy. He really loves it.

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 21:01

Our town is bursting at the seams with the overspill from Edinburgh, it has forced the prices locally through the roof. We couldn't afford to buy our own house now.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 21:04

My pal just paid £60,000 for her one-bedroom flat in Lochgelly.

I must say, though, it is a mahoosive flat, traditional w/lots of period features and good outdoor space.

Needs a little decorating, but it's sound and in a quiet location.

I'm dead jealous!

I will inherit enough to buy. But that would mean I wouldn't have my Papa, and God knows I love him truly and want him around as long as possible.

MrsSpoon · 13/08/2006 21:05

Believe Lochgelly is still the cheapest place to buy in Britain despite the prices going up 30% in the last year.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 21:06

Oh, last week, the paper here put out the new stats for house prices.

Average is £200,000. For a two-bed 'home', which of course mostly means flat.

Average wage is £23,000.

The council is closing 6 primary schools due to falling enrollment.

This is no place for a family unless you've got deep pockets.

Sad, but true.

DH at first felt run out of his own town.

Now he just doesn't care anymore.

expatinscotland · 13/08/2006 21:07

It's shooting up in Lochgelly, Mrs. She nearly missed the boat herself, being on a nurse's salary and all.

And you need a GOOD, reliable car. Not even a supermarket there.
