Debenhams is dire isn't it?

Who buys their shit?

Wandered in today. Totally deserted. Aisles and aisles of polyester shit. And the so called designers........Yet bizarrely there is always a queue for the changing rooms, despite no one being in the shop.

The girlswear is trash, just trash. Ted Baker, Blue Zoo. It's all nasty. Why is it full of such horribleness?

Dreadful. Every year or so I go in. And leave almost immediately.

However, I went in last week and saw Jasper Conean is doing some cute leopard print mid heels. It was the only good thing in there.

scarlet76 · 02/03/2014 15:41

I have hated Debenhams for years. Nothing appeals to me - clothes or homewear.
No idea who their target market is.

DaftSkunk · 02/03/2014 15:44

I buy stuff from there .

Different strokes and all that...

Financeprincess · 02/03/2014 15:52

Yes. I've stopped looking in there because all the clothes are made of such horrid, static material. I'm surprised that some of the designers will put their names to it.

Some of the shoes are still OK, but you have to hunt for decent leather and suede.

Saurus72 · 02/03/2014 15:54

I think it's awful too. I walk through Debenhams sometimes on my way to shops that I actually want to go to. I'm always terrified of touching anything in case I get an electric shock from all the synthetic fabrics. And also, why are the shops such a mess? They have a suburban 1980s feel to me.

WildThong · 02/03/2014 15:56

Yes! Always big giant shops with absolutely nothing to buy. I have a gift voucher and am struggling to spend it there.

Dont normaly buy in there as not my price range but went today with dp and I got a pair of heels for 16 pounds for my wedding and the girl at the counter said it was buy one get one half price on the shoe rack so got a pair of flats for summer all for under 20 pounds

Sicaq · 02/03/2014 16:12

What's wrong with Debenhams? They're just essentially lots of high street shops under one roof. I buy lots of things there.

threepiecesuite · 02/03/2014 16:12

Red Herring used to be ok but now tis shit. Mantaray is ok but overpriced.

Meglet · 02/03/2014 16:13

I didn't like it in my 20's, or 30's. And unless some strange hormone related fashion hatred comes over me then I don't expect to like it in my 40's.

saintmerryweather · 02/03/2014 16:14

Fuse fashions have some good stuff and I like red herring skinny jeans

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2014 16:15

It's horrible. The changing rooms were filthy last time I ventured in there to try a bra on, and the people in there are the v worst at shuffling around at the top of the escalators and GETTING IN MY WAY. I only ever go in there because it's the only place I can get Urban Decay.

mrssmith79 · 02/03/2014 16:16

Dh likes the John Rocha and Jasper Conran stuff but other than that I only go in to use the loo or to cut through to the multistorey. It's like a sensory overload in our branch, once you fight your way past the painted ladies and get up the escalator it's blue cross synthetic tat and grubby floors as far as the eye can see!

TSSDNCOP · 02/03/2014 16:21

I hate it and they always look to me like they're losing down.

On a plus point they are having a blue cross or whatever day this week so John Lewis are price matching them!

MrsBungle · 02/03/2014 16:23

It is dire. We went in for a look a few weeks ago for jeans for dh. Apart from some of the Levi's, they are all extremely middle-aged. I'd only buy makeup from there.

Shockers · 02/03/2014 16:24

I bought a lovely Phase Eight jumper from Debenhams yesterday... containing not a single synthetic fibre!

I know what you mean about the look of the shop though!

rookiemater · 02/03/2014 16:25

I have no idea why Debenhams is still in business, the only shop that depresses me more is BHS, but at least they have decent home furnishings.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 02/03/2014 16:27

Eeek, don't say that, I have a big voucher to spend in there Sad

MarshaBrady · 02/03/2014 16:31

I had to go to get a shock absorber running bra. Stock everywhere and dusty. Am amazed it survives.

Top location on Oxford St too. Plus one of the few places to convince designers to do permanent cheaper collections.

The store could do with a big overhaul.

Viviennemary · 02/03/2014 16:34

I think it's OK. DH has got Debenhams mad lately. Maybe it's an age thing. Grin

MrsDavidBowie · 02/03/2014 16:37

So old-fashioned.
And the tills and fitting rooms are always closed....the area behind the cash desks are a disgrace.

It could close down and not leave a gaping void in the high street

hollyisalovelyname · 02/03/2014 16:50

I don't understand how some designers can put their name to some of the stuff in Debenhams. Synthetic clothes.
Plastic shoes.
We have a smallish Debenhams nearby. It is not a shop I buy anything much in.
The bigger stores are better. Pretty costume jewellery there and make up concessions good.
